View Full Version : PSP to be used as a Remote Control?
Sony chairman Nonuyuki Idei has recently let slip some information about the forth coming Playstation 3 and how it might fit in with the rest of the Playstation family amd other Sony products, including TVs and the new PSP.
According to recent comments Idei-san has made, Playstation 3 should hit shelves sometime in March of 2006, the Playstation Portable unit might be incorporated as some kind of controller or remote, and sit down for this one - Sony is apparently toying with the idea of placing "cell" processors into its TV sets to give consumers builtin access to games (PS2 obviously), movies, music, and the internet (imagine a PSX built right into your TV). Apparently in this TV application a PSP could be used not only as a controller for the PS3 elements of the set, but also as a remote for the TV.

that will explain a few things
No thats not what I said. I did'nt even mention the news about the two different versions of ps3 in what I said  . Please read more carefully. I talked about the two versions of PS3 ages ago on PS3 Portal (http://www.ps3portal.com/twoversionsofps3.htm) - you're right that is old news and that's if you call 1 st of April (1 month) old news.
The PSP Remote control is recent news and the TV thing is fairly new too. As for March 2006 PS3 release - only 1st quarter is hinted at nothing more really. Its not an official release date.

I swear you did mention the possible 2 versions of the ps3, I’m on to you
and I’m sorry if my post sounded a bit ummmm well you know what I mean as I didn’t mean it in that way, just to me things that are older and a few weeks old is old news
and i was also saying that the original thing that the Sony guy said was not for cell to enable it to play ps2 or any games it was to enable TV like functions
sorry if I have been offensive in this thread though as I didn’t mean to be

I've known about Sony maybe putting the cell into tv's for a while. It will also supposiviley allow some things to maybe communicate(as much as machines can communicate) or so I have heard.

According to Hyper>> game magazine they said that the PS3 can acutaully juice more power out of appiliances that use the cell chip, even a kettle for god's sake
So I'm assuming the PSP is going to be based on the same concept :D but only time will tell :D

OK then Playstation 3 have it your way ive got rid of it. I interperated the info wrong so soz about that, but as for the PSP being used as a remote control, i think it would be a good idea. I cant add anything else to what has already been said.

I just found this
Read the bottom couple of lines ( this is an article from 2002, so as you say gaming ultima, very old news)
The Cell - Power for Playstation 3 and ...more!
The heart of the Playstation3 will be a new chip (or rather chip set) developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. The companies will collectively invest more than $400 million in the next five years to design a "supercomputer-on-a-chip" for the PS3. The name for this technology is "grid" (formerly called "cell") and appears to be targeted squarely at the possibilities of parallel and distributed computing over the internet. Grid computing is a variation of distributed computing, and presumably involves networked game machines sharing software, processing power and data. Okamoto also said that networking applications including downloadable software would be integral to Sony's Playstation3 console. A recent report (May 5 2002) from the Japanese News Agency Kyodo said that the Playstation 3 would work over superfast fiber optics connections and would be Sony's first console to run games without a digital video disc. Sony also is considering offering the new chip to other companies for use in televisions and electronics equipment, Kyodo said.
What the hell kind of relation does that have to do with the PSP being used as a remote. For god's sake post your information in the right threads and STAY ON TOPIC :x
