The formatting of a thread keeps on getting screwed up by someone making a wide post. Is it possible to fix it so that if someone makes a post that takes up a lot of space horizontally it won't screw up every other post in that thread for that page?

That would be great, although if someone posts an image, I wouldn’t want that image to be cut off...

If a large image is posted, than there's nothing you can do, unless you set your browser to automatically shrink images to fit the page...which can be done in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Another reason pages can become too wide is if people use very long urls and it keeps dragging on until it's off the page. This can be fixed using this: insert link here[/b]]type what you want the link name to displayed as ... and without the extra space after url --> [url = It should be [url=

You can prevent all of this using Firefox if you set images to shrink to fit the page, and Firefox automatically condenses urls to fit the page width.

I have Firefox and there isn't word wrapping set as default. I'll have to look at it more in-depth, but they do make two mods for it: Auto max-image resize and auto word wrap. Here’s the links if you ever decide to use them

That's strange. Firefox has condensed urls since I first installed it and I've done nothing to change the settings. I can't even find an option to change this in Firefox. I'm running the latest version on Windows XP. What are you using?

I like the first one that you posted.

I'm running XP SP2 with the latest version of Firefox (1.0.4). I went through the options and all I saw was image resizing, but that is just when it’s directly linked to the image, not when it's embedded into the page. I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox to see if that helps. Well first I'll try booting into a live linux to see.

I guess I'm just lucky then. It condenses urls automatically with magic or something.

It's hard to program in Magic++, I only know a handful of softwares that use it

Well, you can't force someone to make a small URL, but there is another option you can use too, if the URL is way too big.

Now im liking the tinyurl.com site, ive seen some people use that on here for something else, i think picture locations actually, but i never did think of checking the site out once (something i usually always do)

But i do agree with the massive URLs, they do tend to annoy when you have to scroll across, then down, then across and so on, makes me want to stop reading sometimes, but i do anyway lol

Maybe you should make it a rule against posting massive URLs, but only make it effective for new users after a week, and if anyone breaks it, then get 25 points removed.

Kind of nasty, but yeh its the only way people willl learn, im sure most of us dont have a 2048i screen or whatever

This does make the pages look pretty bad, though the issue isn't hugely impacting. We could implement those mods, though we want to keep the level of mods down to a minimum. The more mods, the slower the forums, and the higher the risk of errors. PBM's suggestions are all valid options!

As the Cheat Editor for PSU, it's my job to try and make the Cheats section effective and easy to deal with. Having said that, here are a couple suggestions that I think would make the section better than its current state.

1) Create a program that displays a small image when the server realizes a game's cheats have been updated by an editor. By image, I mean something simple like "New" in a flashy text and background, to signify to the visitor that this section has recently been added to in the last couple of days. Then perhaps make the image stick for 5-7 days. Unless of course you can make it so that it only displays once, the first time a specific IP address accesses it, and then the next time it will not show because the viewer has already seen the section. The point is to have a system that shows an updated cheats section. This is something no other cheats site has...and it's a necessary feature.

2) Give me a structure to work with, a set guideline on how the cheat format should look. If you see GamesRadar and ChetCC their cheats are organized by varying complexities (GamesRader uses tables, CheatCC uses a simple asterisk). Should I use a dividing line between cheats and hints, should I bold the cheat name and leave the text normal, etc. Viewers want simplicity and organization, if the cheat format differs from cheat to cheat, it gets confusing.

3) When a viewer views the Cheat homepage, I think they should be presented with an image, cheat title and date. The summary option only makes the cheat page look cluttered. If you decide to keep the summary, at least manage to activate HTML so it reads the displayed cheat format correctly, else you'll see the varying errors that the homepage currently displays.

4) Display only the first 5-10 cheat titles in the list on the homepage...so it doesn't stretch the whole page down unnecessary lengths. Or make it so that it doesn't surpass the sections next to it and leave a large blank space...a.k.a line it up.

5) The list would only contain the games with the newest cheats, all previous cheats would be available to the viewer via clicking the "Top 15 most poular Cheats section" or by searching or clicking the corresponding letter to the cheat search.

Do any of these suggestions seem plausible?
