View Full Version : MGS4 'No place to hide' Explained

"Hideo Kojima has shed some light on what he meant by his cryptic 'no place to hide' statement made in reference to next-gen Metal Gear Solid 4 when first announcing the game in March this year.

It's all to do with the environment being more dynamic, apparently, and as such having a direct impact on sneak and stealth gameplay, Kojima-san revealed when speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine recently.

Or in other words, what would have provided guaranteed cover in the previous Metal Gear Solid games may no longer provide guaranteed cover in Metal Gear Solid 4.

A crate which you're hiding behind may suddenly be lifted into the air by a crane for example or similarly a truck providing cover may be driven away - but you won't know whether such things are about to occur or not.

Such a dynamic environment adds an element of unpredictability to gameplay, keeps players on their toes and introduces the need to improvise to survive.

So, 'no place to hide' - turns out it's nothing to do with Metal Gear Solid 4 being set on the Moon after all. Or the Sahara Desert..."

I had a feeling it would be something along these lines.

Thats really good to hear though :D
Im glad the world will be more dynamic now, thats one thing that makes games more lifelike, and with a game like MGS, thats something that makes this game series great.
(okay maybe not so much with the metal gears, but its no as if someone wont probably try making something like these sometime in the future.)

I cant wait for MGS4 now, its going to be a great game indeed, wonder if this will be the last one though, hope not, im sure he will be able to make amazing stories to continue Snakes adventures for another few games at least, maybe a trilogy of trilogies :D

I was just wondering, since your relationship with devs are on a professional level, would you mind asking them in your occasional e-mails if they will have any cheats for their titles? And if they do, would they be able to e-mail you with the cheats when they release them, if at all? I just think it would be a nice way to boost our cheat section popularity, if we're getting our cheats from a 1st party.

I mean, I don't expect you to write a separate e-mail regarding the matter, just asking if you could just think about slipping it into an occasional e-mail every now and then.

Sorry - unrelated, but since this thread is directed at Justin...

Justin can you make my Oblivion review a feature? The features haven't been updated for a while.

Dont worry iToke we can always blend in to anything with the new camuflage suit, so if the truck moves just blend in with the ground and cross your fingers no one spots you.

I thought it ment that something about destructable enviroments. walls can crumble, crates can get destroied, so you have no-where to hide

What! You mean I can't hide in a locker for 50hrs without anyone opening it! Dang, there goes my strategy.

hah, hell yeah
I like the idea that some things may not provide perfect cover as long as needed, I think it can definitely freshen up the gameplay and keep the player on the move. Like dude said.....no sitting in a locker while you wait for the alert to die down ;)

Uh, why did you steal Hunnter (http://www.ps3forums.com/member.php?u=1575)'s post and claim it as your own? First you were copying from wikipedia whenever a game's title was mentioned, and now you're copying other's posts just for post count and points? :suspect:

Anyways, back on topic. This element sounds awesome, it should keep us on our toes at least! :D

i thought he talked about this already. i mean, "no place to hide" pretty much explains it all.

So I guess Nemesis from RE3 isn't actively hunting Snake the entire time...so much for that theory.

I kind of figured it would have been something like that.

I thought this was already explained 2 years ago. It was always said that "No Place to Hide" was referring to hiding spots in the environment prone to change in real time.

what I remember Kojima said there no place for hiding like old games (under a table or inside a locker)
you have to think how to blind your self creatively (like the statue way in the trailer)
