Months after a failed launch, at electronics retailer Bic Camera's bustling Shinjuku store, the Xbox 360 has actually sold out. Granted, we don't report each time a console sells out, but this, like a solar eclipse, is a historic event! Kotakuite David snapped a photo that states the console is "sold out", but also notes that the store "DID have the World Cup Limited Edition 360"—understandable as the World Cup is so over. It goes without saying that Japan hasn't been a walk-in-the-park for Microsoft, but the company has continued to pour endless streams of cash into promoting the machine. Guess those boy band ads are working

I'm sure anyone reading this thread will have a few big questions. I might as well break the ice and say a few of them now -
1. How many XBox360s did the store get since launch, and how often were they restocked?
2. Why did you make the title look like it sold out in all of Japan when it's just one store that sold out?
3. How big of a milestone is this?

Just face it: The Japanese have no interest in the Xbox360. Japan is a lost market area. They simply do not like M$'s console. Having it FINALLY sell out somewhere in Japan months after its terrible launch is nothing to brag about.

If you didnt notice this is a joke thread. The fact that the 360 getting news about them selling out in 1 store is hilarious. This thread is not meant to be serious.

Milestone? I'd like to just call it a comical tid-bit. Obviously this one store selling out is probably something like they sold 10 units this week.
By the way, what is the link of this source pal?

Sorry, it wan't obvious to me. I tend to miss sarcasm or jokes depending on my state of mind.

I can see MS saying this at the TGS
"The xbox360 is doing fantastic in Japan, we have been sold out at many stores. *shows pic of the 1 japanese store that was sold out* "
I didnt think I'd see the day that a Microsoft product would sell out in a Japanese store.

Japanese retailer chain Tsutaya has lowered the price of Xbox 360 Premium Edition from 39,795 yen (US$341) to 29,800 yen (US$255), although it is not an official price reduction from Microsoft, but Tsutaya said the new price will stay for a period of time.

Basically, four days since Tsutaya has lowered the price of Xbox 360 Premium Edition, the sales of Xbox 360 increased by 289. It is currently unknown I think about the sales of Xbox 360 in Japan in week Aug 21 to Aug 27, 2006.
Anyway, is there anyone who used this news as a misleading news that Xbox 360 in Japan (in general, not in just one store) is sold out?

Who wants to bet that some of the employees wrapped some of those Xbox360's up in a rug, and threw it off a bridge into a cold body of water?

Actually, no, it's not. Xbox 360 took what, six months to sell as much as the first one sold in its first week in Japan. Even in other continents, Xbox 360 isn't selling as well as the first one. The first one succeeded in actually selling more than PS2 for a long time, but Xbox 360 can't do that, even though PS2 is not of the same console generation.
its kinda of a sucess there.
It's far from a success. Even some of the best selling Xbox 360 games don't sell more than 10 000-20 000 units.

I thought they lowered the price on the 360 AND never restocked since launch... wow, congrats guys, you sold your first 150 Xboxes!
They must be doing an extremely bad job marketing the 360 over there.

That "bad marketing" is called "The First Xbox". It actually was decently succesful in the beginning. Then as time went on they failed at providing enough software the Japanese like. Now why should they get the next one, when it hasn't improved from the first one? Even Dead Rising and Lost Planet are americanized Japanese games, unlike Devil May Cry, Okami and Godhand.
Once again, a couple of Mistwalker games won't change that.

Well, if that's the case then why did MS have a slide at E3 showing that the 360 was the fastest selling console up to that point?
Once again, a couple of Mistwalker games won't change that.
Well, I am of the opinion that if Sakaguchi can't get the 360 some kind of recognition (relative to the Xbox brand of course) then nothing short of massive changes in Square Enix policy will. But that's not to say that there aren't some encouraging signs, as the Japanese ranked Blue Dragon as number 7 or 8 in terms of the games they were most looking forward to. And they also voted Sakaguchi as the most influential person in gaming in 2005, and this was at the end of the year when he was firmly rooted in Microsoft's camp. That's gotta count for something.
Well, if that's the case then why did MS have a slide at E3 showing that the 360 was the fastest selling console up to that point?
To make the situation seem better than it actually is? It's the same as Sony lying about the PSP sales. DS is beating it everywhere (though I don't know about Australia), and then Sony goes and says how they've sold XX million PSPs. That number is millions more than the DS has sold, although the DS has been outselling PSP for a long time everywhere. So how is that possible? It isn't.
Maybe Microsoft has shipped more consoles than anyone ever before, but they sure as hell haven't sold as much (just add up the sales of Xbox 360 in Japan and NPD's North America sales, and explain how in earth has Xbox 360 sold a lot more in the remaining region (Europe), although America is the stronger region for Xbox)
