Didn't want to spoil it in the title, but I read here http://mwarfare3.com that Modern Warfare 3 will take place during Vietnam War according to their reliable source.
I am not sure how reliable it is but this appears to be the only website that keeps information on Modern Warfare 3. Either way I have been waiting for them to use Vietnam! I think if they choose that war it will make COD MW3 the best game in the series and it would confirm that MW3 is the prequel title everyone has been talking about. Bonus is we get to play as Ghost if this is the prequel :)

well i think black-ops was the last cod game iwill ever buy lol its a good game but haveing a cod game every year is dumb

I keep loving each game each year and putting endless hours into them. I would take a new one every 6 months!

I do not like Black Ops at all. I hope Modern Warfare 3 is better than Black Ops, and that you can actually quickscope in it. I love quickscoping, the only purpose I actually play MW2.

You realize they took it out on purpose right? Because its one of the most assinine and cheap ways to get a kill in the history of FPS games?...I doubt it will make a comeback...

Not to flame or anything but like i really don't get why Treyarch took it out. ****loads of people were having fun, it was creating publicity for the game on YouTube, it took way more skill then alot of the normal stuff and there was alot of let-down clans that was based on quickscoping having nothing to do since like 1 in 4 lobbies in MW2 is modded. it's pretty hard to find a competitive quickscoping/no-scoping clan for mw2 these days all thanks to Treyarch.

It's called Call of Duty: Black Ops.
I highly doubt this is true, because frankly it doesn't make much sense. Unless it takes place in modern day Vietnam (which, why would it?), it would go against the entire purpose of it being set in the not-so-distant future. In addition, how can any setting make a game the best in the series? At the end of the day, the best games are those with the best game mechanics and the ones that are most enjoyable to play through.
It shouldn't be long before we word on the next installment to the Call of Duty series, but I highly doubt this is legitimate given its contradictory nature.
It is very unlikely that next COD will be in Vietnam but I remember that only IW(now Respawn) have rights to make "modern" past Vietnam era COD games.
So there could be some truth in this.

haha as much as i like call of duty that scenario wouldn't surprise me one bit. anyways i agree with the idea that setting mw3 in vietnam defeats the purpose of a modern warfare game, also i would hate to see them do a prequel for mw3 seeing as how mw2 left off with a cliffhanger ending.

I thought I read somewhere as well that IW has rights to modern warfare games and Treyarch deals with pre-modern stuff. Could be wrong but Treyarch could make a cod set in 2134 if they wanted to I think. I don't think it's set in stone who can make what.
I read a rumour somewhere saying the next game would have some elements set in space haha
The series is huge, the next one will sell by the bucketload as well. I just wander when it's all going to peak? They need to keep it fresh with each game and I suppose it helps that it doesn't have a rival on it's scale, everyone plays the COD games

well apparently the rumors are true as far as the game being a prequel, staring ghost from mw2 as the main character according to opm. gotta say i'm a little disapointed to hear it.
If it's Modern Warfare 3 then shouldn't it continue from 2? And if it continues from 2, the characters go back in time to the Nam war? Sources really suck these days.

Bugger single player just give us a multiplayer only game
This series can dry up and blow away in my book. I turn on one of my secondary profiles after not playing for 2 weeks (Black Ops) to having my stats reset. It's not like i'm the best player or i can play 24/7 to get back where i was. Screw it, i won't let someone get duped into buying this from a Gamestop so i'll just smash or melt the disc. I let alot of the problems go unmentioned in this game but i'm tired, i'm tired of it. This just happened this morning so i imagine alot of you aren't having these problems. Google "My Black Ops stats were reset on ps3" and this is a more widespread problem than it looks.

That doesn't sound likely. Why would they go with a Vietnam setting when Vietnam was the setting for Black Ops? Plus it would defeat the purpose of calling it Modern Warfare.
Just doesn't add up.
They should just make Modern Warfare 2.0. Where it's exactly the same thing but graphics should be better than KZ3's which imo is impossible and continue the campaign but in MacTavish's perspective cause he's a pimp. Either than that, Treyarch is gonna wreck the Modern Warfare sequences.
