I really hate to say it, but you brought this up. Part of the reason that threads such as this do go off topic in derailments is because of posts just like this one. It sets a negative tone that each subsequent poster may follow.

We can talk about our scores in Kinect Adventure...i'm pretty good at River Rush.
I was on mine last night. I use it a lot less than I did in the weeks immediately after launch admittedly, but that's because there are no games with deep online modes yet.
I don't tend to play many single player games for more than a week or two. The Kinect launch titles are the same way.

Kinect is great but i rarely play it alone. When i have friends over, Kinect is the best party peripheral though.

The whole story about the Kinect update might be finally coming to a conclusion. Remember that we first reported that the Xbox 360 is holding back Kinect because of the usb-connection. Not long after we reported that Microsoft was coming with an update to resolve this limitation and effectively quadruple Kinect’s resolution. And finally we posted a story on how Microsoft was denying this update. Now we have some juicy new rumors on this whole update business.
Xbox Kinect update already happened
According to this source Microsoft Representative Chris Newton said that the Xbox Kinect Update already happened. In fact, it happened before Christmas! Apperently the update was a ‘silent update’ and thus happened automatically without the user knowing about it.
The article says the update has indeed quadrupled the resolution of Kinect by adding a dynamic resolution feature (one camera will lower its resolution while another camera will gain a higher resolution). In this way the peak resolution has increased to 640×480. This allows the much needed hand and wrist gesture detection and will allow for an awesome Kinect Star Wars game!
We have yet to see confirmation of this development but will report on it as soon as we know more. Stay tuned!

Microsoft is preparing a second wave of Kinect games in April according to recent rumors.
Technology blogger Robert Scoble kick started rumors on Twitter this week by suggesting that the software giant is preparing a second wave of “mind blowing” games:

Scoble is a former Microsoft employee who left the company in 2006 to pursue a full-time blogging career. Scoble still has close ties to Microsoft and has previously hinted at several product launches ahead of their official release. Microsoft currently has four Kinect titles that its game studios division publishes. The software giant has previously confirmed it’s working on four new Kinect titles for release in 2011: Codename D, Forza Motorsport 4, Haunt and Project Draco.
Microsoft revealed at CES earlier this month that the company has sold over 8 million Kinect sensors in just 60 days on the market. Microsoft’s Kinect sensor has been a phenomenal success story for the company. The console accessory sold out across a number of retailers during the recent festive season and Microsoft smashed its own estimates of 5 million units in 2010 by shipping 8 million devices.
According to recent reports, Microsoft may have sacrificed its January and February stocks to satisfy Christmas shoppers. The software giant has warned of further Kinect shortages in the coming weeks.
WinRumors revealed earlier this week that Microsoft officials are currently readying an official SDK and Kinect drivers for Windows. Microsoft is set to unveil driver support and an SDK in the coming months and will allow third-party developers to create titles that utilize the Kinect sensor when plugged into a PC.
I was one of few here who believed Kinect would not tank out of the production line & I have no reason to believe MS will not continue to create solid and enjoyable experiences with the device.
That said however, the 'mind blowing' remains to be seen.

EA Sports is investigating how a Kinect-enabled Fight Night game would work best for fans of the boxing game series – and has even conducted prototyping.

"It's a little bit too twitch-based, not to mention the fact that standing on your feet for three minutes and throwing punches is something that, believe it or not, might be beyond the fitness level of most gamers!" gameplay producer Brian Hayes told Eurogamer in August last year– before both Move and Kinect launched.
Now, just weeks before the release of Fight Night Champion, producer Mike Mahar has told Eurogamer EA Sports is figuring out how to make a Kinect boxing game as we speak.
"It's an interesting proposition," he said. "Undeniably at some point we're going to want to integrate motion controls into our game somehow, whether that's in a mini-game or a separate game I don't know.
"Right now the best simulation experience we can give users is through a conventional controller. I also think that most of our users don't want to, and can't, punch for 10 rounds! I just don't think people are capable of it! If you're going to make a full fighting game it might be a different experience than a Fight Night or an MMA..."
Kinect, which enables Xbox 360 owners to control games with their bodies, is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device of all time.
While its launch line-up of games focused on mainstream gamers, Microsoft has promised to release games aimed squarely at the core gamer this year and beyond.
For Mahar, Kinect integration for Fight Night means more than mini-games - indeed it would probably lead to a separate release.
"It's definitely something we're looking at," he added. "We've done some pretty cool prototyping. It could perhaps be a mini-game embedded in. Then again with how precise and how robust the movement and motion controls are now, I think we'd be doing them a disservice if we simply said that our version of a motion control game is a mini-game within Fight Night.
"I think we'd best serve the community, if we're going to do anything ever, with a totally different game. That's the speculation on my part."
I'd buy it if it worked well, fitness could only get better right?
EDIT: So here's what we got:

3rd party devs such as EA working on expanding their franchises to incorporate Kinect use, dedicated they are EA is prototyping games (or at least FN).

dont know about anyone else, but the games i have for Kinect a very good.
Sales are one thing. Its the excitement that people have when getting the system, makes it what it is a unique experience to one and all to explore

It's not for everyone, I guess you gave it a shot, it wasn't for you, but not everyone had the same impressions you had, that's the way of the world.
So what are you rocking at the moment man, you purchased a new console yet, I remember you sold your 360 a while back because of all the games and money you were spending...

I totally understand.
That's why as long as core games keep coming for the 360 it'll be fine because MS are already onto a winner with the control pad anyway.
Kinect Sports Online is addicting. I can't get enough of Bowling and Boxing moreso Bowling.

Cool that people enjoy it I'm glad, I just find I silly that majority of people are more exited for how much it sells rather that what it ls bringing to the gamers that taught it was going to add a new way to interact with hardcore games, haven't been in the loop so I dint know what its the next killer game people are expecting, hopefully its not dance central 2. Which is fine for the people that enjoy it but not my favorite genre, which if people bite with their wallets will determine were the focus of it goes.
Rest a sure I'm not hating I'd buy it if they have a tittle that appeals to me, but if I wanted to be in the crowd that has the largest install base, and constantly sells millions I'd get a wii. I just expect a little bit more from my console, yes sells matter but from what I've seen the console that's selling the least is bringing more to the table well atleast for my types of games.
Hope that is not the case and get blown away because I know what I'd be trading in for an ngp, now that's a cooler story

I understand Lethal as i'm hesitant too... I only have Kinect Adventure, played Kinect Sports and Dance Central. While these games are good, i'm not so sure i'll play them on a regular basis that's why i will probably not buy them.

i agree. it makes exercising "fun" may be, but you should not expect any serious exercise with Kinect.

Kinect is used every day in my household. Kinect Sports is a huge favorite. Also got Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved.

It's not about what it offers. It's about how many it sells. Duh! Uber, hasn't this generation taught you anything? On a personal note, not impressed by it's launch lineup in the slightest, and see very little being done on a console with the tech for the future. It's a shovelware machine, plain and simple. It's made for transitioning casuals. The regular 360 hardcore gamers haven't been impressed with it either, because they too know what it is. Just don't get upset when people say it's not that big a deal on here, because it's not. The software has proven that. So you can navigate menus, work out, dance, and race. Cool. That's a huge evolution in control.

The point is kinect isn't for everyone but for those who have it seem to be enjoying what it brings.... There is nothing wrong with trying to reach a larger audience. It was a good business decision that paid off.

It looks like people who actually own the kinect, Love it.
For some reason, they thought that it would be a good bit of kit to have in the house, and i havn't met one of those people that are disapointed with the tech. Then there's the people that know they don't like it, and know they don't want it and they aren't interested.
then there seems to be the people that have decided that they won't like kinect for whatever reason and they like to tell everyone they don't like it.
Basically for me it seems that anyone who had a sniff of interest has bought it, and loves it.

There are millions of us that own the Kinect and enjoy the current set of games and are looking forward the future core and casual games. It's pretty fun, and we are glad we bought it.
it seems like there are more people who dont like it than those who does.
We would suspect that to be the case on a forum that is primarily Playstation focused.

Not sure why everyone gets so defensive when the word Xbox gets used. Kinect has gone silent because the majority of hardcore gamers do not have a need for it. I am sure the kids are loving the Kinect just like the kids are the only ones that like the Wii. Where did the Wii go? (yes I know kids are not the ONLY ones) I am a hardcore gamer so my Kinect has gone to sleep until something comes out that actually uses this technology the way we were shown over a year ago. Sadly I have yet to see anything like that. I was expecting Milo type stuff and instead I got an expensive Vision cam experience. This is my 2 cents.

^^^ Very well said. Some of the games may not be my kind but i appreciate the fact that when i have friends over, Kinect entertains a lot. That for me is a job done.

If you arent exactly of the same opniion thats fine, but to ridicule some one because they make an observation based on the thread response is pointless.
It does nothing but incite people to a higher level of tom foolery.

stop being so insecure please. if Kinect is so good, then there is no reason for people here to jump on those who said kinec isnt good.
i even already said Kinect is great for casuals, but so many of you are jumping at me for saying it isnt good for hardcore.

Hmm, me thinks you do not get the point of what I was saying.
You jumped on someone who said "looks like most people like it", by pointing out a position of "looks like most people dont -see what I did there?".
Its got nothing really to do with Kinect, its about you complelty mis-guided principal that you can counter someones observation of the thread by saying, "wheres you proof? I can say the opposite and its also true".
Which of course it is not, as so many have pointed out to you.
Keep you "insecurity" and such like nonsense, I'm unsure how that impacts on the way you approach some of these threads.
I understand you can see both side of the discusison here, I just dont understand how you come up with your response.
It almost goading of the protagonists on both side.
In an argument about an observaiton of the thread which was that "seems like most people like it", its an observation, not a point for counter argument when it quite clearly true.

How often do you use your Kinect? I am just thinking that if you used it more, you might be able to experience some of the features it has. You can't get everything out of the occasional play through.

I enjoyed kinect and yes it was real fun to play. But for me i just want the games i played before like oblivion: elders scroll, fable 2 & 3, fallout 3 and grand theft auto iv. These are the only games i am getting when i get a 360 again. As for oblivion:skyrim, i am hoping to get this game and enjoy it. For kinect i feel its not for me, i do not hate it nor dislike it at all. I just believe its not for me.
For those that have it and are getting, its an amazing piece of kit and i would recommend it to anyone that wants to give it ago

a mate of mine got kinect on launch and i gave it a go, i found kinect adventures and sports to be fun but this was playing the games with 5 or more people, it is perfect for that kind of environment but those games felt like i have played them before, I just won't be buying this until that killer game comes out that really gets me hooked.

There aren't any hardcore games, but there are hardcore gamers that certainly do enjoy the games for it though.

I have to agree, not all the games on Kinect are trash, I own a few and all of them I enjoy some way or another.
