View Full Version : Soundtracks
So...lets talk about soundtracks in general(game/movie OSTs)
Lets talk about good composers and their creations..
Do you have a favourite soundtrack/composer?
I would mention:
Game:
Jesper Kyd for his VERY good work on Hitman, especially blood money.
Stuart Chatwood for his nice work on Prince of Persia 1 and 3,maybe he will make Assassins Creeds score, that would be great.
Harry Gregson-Williams and Norihiko Hibino for their brilliant MGS scores.
Akira Yamaoka for the amazing Silent Hill soundtracks.
Martin O'Donnell and Micheal Salvatori for their fantastic job on Halo.
Winifred Phillips for her great work on God of War.
Kärtsy Hatakka and Kimmo Kajasto for their dark score on Max Paynes.
Movie:
John Williams for his extraordinary work on Jurassic Park and Star Wars.
Klaus Badelt for his excellent work on Equilibrium and Pirates of the Caribbean 1.
Hans Zimmer for his awesome work on Pirates of the Carribean 2 and Gladiator.
Rob Dougan and Don Davis for their(out of words soon hehe)magnificent work on the Matrix Trilogy.
Well,i have named enough and there are more great composers + soundtracks that i didnt name for these guys..
So LETS TALK ABOUT SOUNDTRACKS :)
I sure hope there are OST lovers here.
E:I want to mention Immediate Music and X-Ray Dog for their music on game/movie trailers.
The Graduate soundtrack is my all time favorite.

Rob Dougan and Don Davis for their(out of words soon hehe)magnificent work on the Matrix Trilogy.
Is that the Australian Rob Dougan of 'Clubbed To Death' fame? That's a really nice song.
My favourite game music composer has to be Yuzo Koshiro for Streets of Rage 2. I'd love to hear his music in Streets of Rage 4 for the PS3. Yes...we can only dream of it.
I don't know who composed the original Resident Evil soundtrack for the Playstation but they did a fine job. It's easily the most atmospheric soundtrack to a game that I've played. Tomb Raider also had a brilliant soundtrack.
Is that the Australian Rob Dougan of 'Clubbed To Death' fame? That's a really nice song. Yes,the one and only.;)
Right now i really like Dario Marianelli's work on V for Vendetta.
c'mon, there must be more soundtrack fans :)(ok said it too soon)
Well i liike the person who made transporter and transporter 2, does that counts as a composer?

I have a lot of respect for Tan Dun and Yo-Yo Ma who orchestrated the music for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. That soundtrack along with Han Zimmer's Last Of The Samurai are my favourite. I especially like the song "Spectres in the fog". The LotS album is very moving, I've nearly shed a tear on several occasions. Both movies are awesome too.

If you're talking about the producer then no.But if about the soundtrack then definitely. ;)

Whilst watching American Beauty a few days ago, I realised what a beautiful soundtrack it has. Anyway I'm going to check it out and see if it's worth the purchase. I also forgot the Fight Club by the Dust Brothers. It's not to everyones taste, but if you're into dark electro/industrial music it's worth listening to.

Dramatic, that was the best way to describe that Katana Theme. I really liked it and I don't usually enjoy choir music. If you're looking into game soundtracks I would recommend any of the Final Fantasy series, Nobou Uematsu is one of my favourite composers.

The best soundtrack is Bjork's Dancer In The Dark. The film may be depressing but the soundtrack is absolutely stunning. It's a CD I listen to and like Selma, I'm transported to a completely different world for forty or so minutes when I hear the songs.

Well, I'm not really into movie soundtracks, so I will pass those.
From animes, there's only one name which I know and which I LOVE, and that's Yuki Kajiura. She(?) has done music on the animes like Noir, Mai HiME, Mai Otome and Tsubasa Chronicle. I never get tired with the songs like Mezame, MATERIALISE, A Song of Fire and Storm and Sei Otome no Inori.
From the games, however, I know many names and I have many favorites.
Of course, Nobuo Uematsu is one of 'em. FFVII and FFIX soundtracks are one of the best (not best ones, just close) I have ever heard. I hope he will do some great songs for Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
Another one is Motoi Sakuraba who has done music on Star Oceans and Baten Kaitos'. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time OST is in the first place with other two OSTs. One of those are Guilty Gear X2 and...
...Wild ARMs Alter Code F done by Michiko Naruke. He is one of my favorite composers =)

I just got into Nobuo Uematsu(only FF7:AC soundtrack),

For me..... Nobuo Uematsu, Richard Sherman, Robert Sherman, Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, Stephen Schwartz, and other old time disney composer are the best composers ever.
The best soundtracks, and the best songs i've ever heard would be Hikari There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, Beauty and The Beast, and Out There

My favorite soundtracks are:
Michael Collins
-great movie, story and music. It's primarily Irish but it's great
Schindler's List
-Not much to say but I liked it
Phantom of the Opera
-I liked the new one even though the music hasn't changed much over the years
Medal of Honor Frontline
-I didn't buy the CD or anything, but if you watch the credits and the one buy with his solo I thought that song was pretty cool during Arnhem Nights
Batman Begins
-One of my favorite movies and has some pretty good background and dampening music
I've been listening to Hans Zimmers work and came across Prince of Egypt soundtrack.
This has to be one of my favourite soundtracks.
Hans Zimmer - Red Sea and Ofra Haza - Deliver Us are such beautiful songs.
I love the movie too,one of my favourite animations.Definitely recommend the score and movie, both are so beautiful.Sad that Ofra Haza died, she has a beautiful voice.
Rocky Theme songs> every other soundtrack fropm games and movies together.

Games:
Final Fantasy:
-Soundtracks are amazing for all of the games and there's always that same underlying theme that I can lay my finger on.
Metal Gear Solid:
-Well...actually, most of the soundtracks are all the same and as good as Harry-Gregson Williams is, I only like maybe 6 total MGS songs:
Movies:
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Dead Man's Chest:
-The second movie had an amazing soundtrack IMHO. The part with the natives was awesome in terms of music. I like how they redid the original songs as well.
Schindler's List:
-The piano and violin theme was nicely done and set the mood for the movie quite nicely.
A Beautiful Mind
-Charlotte Church, wow, great voice and career and her song All Love Can Be is no less.
Gladiator:
-It had a nice strong Roman rhythm (whatever that is) and felt...full I guess and it did have it's soft moments.
The Shawshank Redemption:
-The music in this movie is underrated and is amazing when you take the time to listen to it.
I can't think of anymore soundtracks but I know there's more so I'll end with the most obvious:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
-Amazing...purely amazing. It sounded Celtic and Irish and was purely amazing to listen and noone can say that it didn't help out the story and the mood.
Can some mod move this to the entertainment section?

I doubt many people know much library music, or even know what it is. But for those that do who are your favourite library music musicians, and favourite library music groups eg. DeWolfe, KPM etc.
THE GOD ENNIO MORRICONE
He deserved that Lifetime Achievement Oscar.
Hans Zimmer - Da Vinci Code soundtrack - beautiful.
Started listening to Lord of the Rings scores,Howard Shore sure nailed this one.
Tyler Bates - Frank Miller's 300 soundtrack
Really powerful and epic, love it even more than Hans Zimmer's Gladiator.
