View Full Version : NGP to be undisputed king of killer mobile gaming (says Epic Games)
Now, to come back around to the NGP. Yes, it's got ball-busting, hardcore power. But it's also largely free from the limitations that plague iOS and Android phones. It doesn't have the driver overhead. The memory's predictable. Developers can basically write to the metal, without going through layers of software abstraction. While Epic couldn't talk technical specifics, knowing what we do know about the NGP hardware, and how it won't run into the same ceilings as iOS and Android devices, it's safe to say that it's going to be the undisputed king of killer mobile gaming, at least when it comes to pure, unrelenting eye candy.
So yeah, be ready to strap on your eyeballs. Wouldn't want them to get blown away during your morning commute.

edit: it wasn't the guy from Epic that said this it was the guy from gizmodo can a mod take epic out of the title?
I dunno... the title king will only be achieved through software.. they can tout the "potential" all they want. Show me the games, and I'll show you the crown.
It's good to see a big developer like Epic supporting the NGP like this though.

I wonder what Epic are developing on NGP. Bulletstorm, Unreal Tournament or *gasp* Gears of War...

Bulletstorm of course they already said it would be an ideal platform for it.

Why do you think its only ever advertised as NGP, they don't want people to know what it truely stands for, the next gen portable is nothing but a censored name for its real meaning *wink*

I don't think that it will take the crown but this is a nice way to promote their product. People will believe that it's going to be the best thing out there.

Sony dont like those games on their consoles, its all only on PC, only game that comes close is Love Plus on the DS.

No. No it wont. I plan on getting an NGP at/shortly after release but to say it will kill mobile gaming is moronic.
The day they can offer the same service as the App store then maybe. until then, they have no chance.
Edit - I read it wrong. I thought they were assuming it would kill of the gaming on iOS's and Androids. The NGP will have the potential to offer the best mobile gaming experience for sure. It will be down to the developers to give us those experiences. Hopefully they've learnt from the PSP that we don't want scaled down versions of existing games. Give us new IP's, I dare you!

Actually they did give us new IP. I would know, I mainly purchase new and exclusive IP's for consoles. I like what you are saying but you are in the minority about what users want because ALL 15 of the best selling PSP titles (list found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best-selling_video_games#PlayStation_Portable)) are from established IP's.
Series birthed on the console such as lumines, loco roco, patapon, jeanne d arc, field commander, dead head fred and many more I can't name off my head not only show that the PSP was NOT IP starved, people simply didn't purchase them when they were available.
The NGP didn't only have established franchises but also showed titles like, little deviants, gravity daze, reality fighters, broken and smart as. So basically half of what they demoed for the console was new IP. I am sorry to make this a sticking point but I am tired of hearing the "lack of unique IP" discussion because it wasn't true for the PSP and it doesn't even seem like it will be true for the NGP.

Yeah but coming from epic...

I am sure they know what they are talking about because not only did they get to run the numbers, they also built demo's.

No doubt the PSP had it's own IP's but it never had that many. The reason my PSP got little to no love compared to my DS is simply because the DS had many more games that couldn't be found anywhere else (the battery life and Pokemon Pearl also played a huge part in that mind you) but if i were to look at my PSP games they had all been on consoles before. Perhaps it was my mistake for buying the games that i could play better suited to a home console but i also blame Sony for not advertising the unique IP's enough.
I don't buy handhelds to play games i can play on a more powerful system. I buy them to play games i can't play anywhere else and play them everywhere.
I should add that Loco Roco is still my favourite PSP IP and one of my favourite games of all times.

That was my only point, really. I don't think you looked. I mean, I understand the complaint the first year of the consoles life but the library really became more robust after that and review sites and peers could have easily told you what unique IP to follow. I can honestly say out of the 40 or so PSP games I have only around 5, I can find the same type of stuff on consoles.
