I've felt myself slowing slipping away from gaming as an interest over the past year. Portal 2 is the only new release I've picked up this year, and aside from that, I picked up Neir for about 10 bucks. Haven't played a game for over a week. Black Ops was in my possession for about 3 weeks before selling it. Chances are I won't even rent the next COD.

If BF3 is as good as it looks I may also jump over to it(PC). Really depends on where Call of Duty goes from now on.
People play it becasue people play it to have people to play with when they see alot of people on their friends list playing with other people playing.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaThis is the main reason why people will buy it. Because your friends are going to get it.
Call of Duty Black Ops got boring fast but that won't stop me from buying the next game.

That isn't always the case. I have two friends, from here, that play the current release. I enjoy the game, the challenge of online play, etc. I enjoy the game. Period.

It is true to an extent I would say. The social experience that Call of Duty offers over other games (being popular) probably has a lot to do with it's success (not initially but more true now than in the past -- the reason it keeps doing so well.)
People know their friends are gonna buy it. You can always find a game to play etc, etc. Ofcourse it's not the only thing....but I think it adds a lot to it's appeal.
I personally don't care what my friends buy. If I don't like it, then no amount of friends playing it is going to make me like it lol. Maybe that's not true for a majority of the users, I dunno. I'm just not into generalizing millions of people based on my distaste for a product.

If it's set in space and I get to shoot some Russian zombie alien astronauts and space-walk across a satelite station, I'm down to buy the game. **** Earth, it's boring now. Take it to the stars.

I don't think it's a bad thing. It's a good thing -- any game that can do that provides a good experience for the end user. Be it playing with people they know or if they just enjoy the game itself.
I've talked to a few people at work who play it because they know a group of their friends play (this is not to say they don't like the game because they do like it.) It was also one of my reasons of getting it -- I ended up enjoying it.....I use to play COD4 often and I haven't done that with the newer entries mainly because it's not so new to me anymore and I prefer a sci-fi setting.

Agreed. I don't even accept any friend requests nor do I send any. I'll play what I want to play when I want to play it. 8-)

Well given that I didn't buy black ops then I still won't buy MW3. I'll rent it though.

I wont be.
Its not the game i once loved.
I've giving it many chances but since it went after Halos title with MW, it seemed to loose what was special to me. I havent even completed the latest COD, even with the wanted 3D feature.
To arcadey for my liking,
They've turned into a Micheal Bay film crossed with John Woo, trying to act like a James Cameron masterpiece. haha.
RIP COD2
mmm no. never bought or played black ops.
its just not fun, all cod has ever been for me is utter frustration because there is no such thing as teamwork and most people will use annoying cheap tactics just to win.
bring on BF3 where people have to play together to win and not be carried by the person who has spent 9000 hours playing cod already.

Join a clan then, do you honestly think joining random people will play as a team? Battlefield will be no differn't unless you are playing with friends/clan.

Yes. It has worked with the other battlefield games. Their games seem to be more talored towards teamplay. There was much more teamwork going on that I saw in BFBC2 than the last two CODs.
I bought the original COD:MW not played one since. I think if I had a 360 earlier I may have though.

mmm, ive tried clans but none of them are playing cod for fun, they all just want to carry on like kids when they 'rapez deez noobz' etc.
but as was mentioned above i have had some great team experiences with randoms in battlefield.
Well I played battlefield bad company 2 too, and guess what? nobody was working as a team. It works both ways, granted battlefield is slower, but no way was anyone working as a team in every game I played. Its every man for them selfs. Its just the way gaming is, you might be lucky and get the odd game where some work as a team but most dont.

Im buying both games and I am looking forward to both of them, everyone talks about what is COD bringing new, I ask the question what is battlefield bringing new? that we have not played before? I will bet anything battlefield wont hold my interest as long as COD does.

No doubt, that's what can make BF games even more frustrating. They're meant to be played as a team but the majority still run and gun. It's today's mentality of gamer and the individual in general. It's the "I want it now" era.
Al though I know I will only play it for 2 months ( like the last two cods) i would have brought it BUT since BF3 is out a month earlier i really will not be buying it.
BF3 will take most of my gaming hours :(

The reason everyone is asking 'What is COD bringing new?' is Activision are preparing to release the 5th game on the same engine, with no major differences from the previous mw or mw2.
This is the first BF since 2005. Console version Bad Company (1&2) have been great but what dedicated BF fans have been waiting for is BF3.
You could argue that neither of them are bringing anything new this time, but then you would have to say Activision hasn't brought anything new to the table since 2007.

I have heard from countless people on here saying they won't buy the next COD game in a thread and then go down the list and check off the people that said they wouldnt and play it non-stop. I didn't want to buy the next treyarch game but then after seeing what Black Ops had to offer I bought it only because it wasn't another copy and paste WWII shooter. Im getting MW3 for the 360 but I plan on playing the hell out of Uncharted 3 first.

Yes it doesnt matter the game (BC2, COD, Quake, CS:S) random players rarely play as a team but of course ou get the rare occasion that most of your team does work together and is using voice coms, text chats spawning on each other, reviving each other etc, etc but then the other team isnt so you completely dominate them and they end up leaving because no one like to loose.
Rarer still is the games that both sides are equel in terms of skills and team play and you have a good slugout with whichithe game can go either way btu those matches are as rare as rocking horse poop.
I bet any of you a squillion pounds I do not buy another Call Of Doody ever again

Selling Black OPs for $25. Buying U3 with the profits. I got to prestige 10 and its not hard anymore to prestige up. There have never been automatic claymores that work with lazers unless its for the special forces TODAY. They didn't have that in the 70s-80s. I use Flak pro or Hacker to see all of em and it got old already. I havent played since May. Shoulda sold it then.

i wont buy it. didn't get the last one. way too many other good games, and i lost all interest in the franchise over the years
I'll buy it. It may not be terribly innovative anymore but it's still a great series with insane MP longevity. COD is always the default shooter everybody has no matter what. I may enjoy BC3 more than MW3, but I know for a fact I'll be playing MW3 a lot longer.

Nope I won't be buying it. An overnight rental to play the SP, and quickly returned never to play again - like every COD game since MW1. You will not see a pennie from me, Activision, but thank you in advance for yet another good Friday gaming night!

picked up modern warfare 2 dirt cheap and forgot how fun this game is, a day one buy for me.
Nope, I won't be buying it. After seeing what they did with Modern Warfare 2 I decided it's time to get off the CoD train.
I've been playing it since the original on PC so it's very very stale. If they refresh the series I might take another peek in future but as of now, no sale. Didn't buy Black Ops, either.
Nope, BF3 is coming out. The only FPS that truly matters now.

I've been playing BF : Bad Company 2 since the day it was launched and no other game has as engrossing a MP as BC2. COD may be 'in the spotlight' for FPSs but MW2 is definitely the last COD game I picked. Even though it was probably one of my favorites, Battlefield just feels so much better.
Like i've said before: I'll buy a new CoD when it changes the formula. None of this copy and paste shit.
Only reason I own Black Ops is cause my PS3 died, and I ended up getting the CoD Black Ops PS3 bundle. Last time I traded in a game from a console bundle I was talked down to cause I apparently stole it, and was offered next to nothing. Figured i'd keep it and play with some friends on PSN.

True.
I bet if different CODs ran on the same machines with the same maps, you wouldn't be able to make out which one's which
