View Full Version : Something I've been thinking about lately, why is race so important?

I've noticed in mainstream society it’s mildly acceptable to make jokes or judgments based on someones height, body fat, attractiveness, nationality, gender, intelligence, culture etc. You know, the base attributes that completely define who a person is. But once you state anything about someones race then the s*** hits the fan. I mean really, what’s the difference or importance here. It all just seems so silly to me.

Hell, you even see it here.

"Pfft, damn Brits."
"Fat Americans."
"Those crazy middle-easterners and their backwards culture."
"You're clearly a moron."
"Damn, you're ugly as sin."
"Shorty."

But someone brings up another person's race then it may as well be the end of the f***ing world.

Just wanted to get that out of my system.

Nationality ≠ Race ≠ Ethnicity ≠ Religion

Just to clear that up.

Wat

I made no mention that they weren't all different.

I understand what you mean, it's weird. That's partly why I love Eric Cartman :D

Well imo, people just want an excuse to be violent.

For everyone else at least.

It's a touchy subject. Some people can get really ratty about it where as others can have a laugh. I have a couple of mates who I joke around with all the time, about 'popping a cap in their ***' and 'stealing their bikes' and they just laugh. If I were to make a joke like that on here, I'd probably be banned. Depends how well you know the person and how light-hearted they are.

We are all different breeds of human animals. Like dogs, theres all different breeds but they are all dogs. Spiders, from daddy long legs, to great widow spiders, but they are all spiders. We say "you stupid ape" even though apes, gorillas and monkeys are our cousins. Its designed that way otherwise nature would be boring.

If you are talking about stereotyping at all, then it's because the human brain stereotypes naturally. The only people that don't have an actual disorder.

Shut up Cracker! No seriously, this dam Ritz won't quit yapping in my ear. I'm Native American and even i don't freak out like some people do. Call me Geronimo, Sitting bull, Redskin whatever, it don't hurt me bro. The media & governments of the world are the main reason for the racial separation issues most people feel.

Man, stop with your rational thinking. How else are we supposed to guiltlessly offload the blame of something?!

Jeez man.

OP needs help. You over think. Life isnt all rainbows and barbie dolls. Rasism is not good and people should never take it seriously.

Some people are just too damned sensitive. My friends and I make jokes with each other involving race all the time.

I think the situation makes all the difference. you obviously aren't going to make race jokes to a whole bunch of strangers, but say at work where you know everyone, there may be no second thought about it.

It really isn't.

But the answer you're looking for is probably something similar to noting the fact that we, as humans tend to closely associate with our own communities, and differentiate from other communities. With that said we tend to suggest that the reason an individual acts a certain way is solely based off of their community of origin, rather than said individual's traits. Furthermore we also tend to assume that the entire country is responsible for an action rather than the handful of individuals running it.

Beyond that humans have this horrible tendency to fear the unknown. Despite having access to a vast wealth of information we seldom admit to our own ignorance and treat assumptions based off limited personal experience of word of mouth as truths. We fear the unknown and rather than welcome differences as an opportunity to learn, we shun and stick to what we know.

tl;dr: Because we're all different.
