With storage capabilities of 10 Terabites, could this be a new format in gaming?
Do you think Sony or Microsoft would avail of this technology?

I read up on that not too long ago... they say right now, there would no viable way to get read times down to where the gaming industry needs are...

It would take way too long to have a small console laser to be able to search for data.

It'd be cool though to have such space, but I think speed and size is going to trend towards flash media rather than disc

I don't think it will happen. Neither company will be willing to invest in the medium. Sony only cared about Bluray for it's movie studios. Even with a new HD format they can till push BDXL to store larger movies.

I hope at some stage in the future it gets used, with different coloured lazers reading at the same time, game backgrounds and scenery could be much more immersive to say the least

I'd love it if games went back to flash media/cartridges. I remember playing on my N64 then going on the PS1 and thinking "WTF IS LOADING?"

Not necessary. You'll see MS and Sony go with a 4 layer Bluray disk long before you see them switch to a different format. Besides, by the time that tech is ready for consumer release you'll probably be seeing holographic storage, which is far faster in seek and transfer times than any spinning optical disk, being put in use.

Just yesterday I was reading about 6 layered 200gb blu ray discs.
I think that will be more reasonable than this.

The seek times on that would render it useless for a console though.
