Sega's Dreamcast is being brought back - unofficially - as a portable console in Japan next month.

The device, which you can see here, will cost YEN 38,000 (approx £285) from Japanese retailer Pachimon.TV.

It doesn't exactly look like the most accomplished pieces of kit, and we've heard no confirmation that it actually works, of course - so perhaps hold off on rushing on those pre-orders.

But the idea of Crazy Taxi or Ready 2 Rumble on the move holds a genuine appeal in the CVG office - as we're sure it does to many of you. UK/US third-party hardware manufacturers, take note.

Is this a joke? That's the dumbest **** I've heard in a long time.

It was cool and all but who is going to pay 285 pounds for that?

They are still making games for it in Japan. And Dreamcast has a cult following.

I loved the Dreamcast. It broke my heart when Sega pulled the plug.

Personally it's a nice idea they are going for but I would pass. Dreamiest was awesome in it's time but now the games are actually terrible compared to more refunded modern takes on the genres.

It looms great through your retro nostalgic glasses but overall it just doesn't hold up very well any more.

They're still making games for the actual dreamcast console? wtf lol. They are. I believe that last year they released another game for the console and this year they are planning on releasing another.

The price for this handheld is ridiculous though.

If this turns out to be true, and it actually works, then I'd be more than happy to have one imported. I loved the Dreamcast. Just imagine being able to play Shenmue on the train. Aah, a man can dream.

All I can think of is Shenmue, Power Stone 2, Grandia 2, Samba De Amigo, Space Channel 5, Jet Grind Radio (OMG) and of course Sonic 2 and Puyo Puyo Da!(One of the best dance games)

Yes please, I wouldn't mind retrieving my childhood back. Thank you.

Did you post this after partaking a few, Jabs? ;)

But I have to disagree with you. I and my chums still gather round our working DCs to play hockey, Street Fighter and Power Stone on occasion. I still dig the heck out of Phantasy Star Online and Sonic Adventure, the best Sonic game for me. And Bleemcast sure makes GT2 and Metal Gear Solid look better. I do believe I have more Dreamcast games than I do for any other console, with the possible exception of my Saturn.

Yes, I loves me some PS2 and 3 games, and they are prettier. But better? Only racing games.
