View Full Version : Take Screenshots on PlayStation Vita
The editors of monthly games magazine Gemaga appear to have stumbled upon a new feature for PlayStation Vita. According to the Gemaga Twitter, Sony's Tokyo Game Show Vita pamphlet says that the system allows you to take screenshots whenever you want.
Sony showed off many of the system's firmware features at its press conference yesterday, but this was not among them.

seems Sony learned a bit from the homebrew scene last go 'round.

Indeed. This was added to the PS3 as an afterthought but only some games support it (like custom soundtracks). Its really great to see it in here from the start
"Whenever you want"
That is a simple but fucking cool feature.

Amazing what you can achieve with a shit load of ram and power xD Vita is going to ******* own with it's multi tasking and cross game chat.
You know if you get stuck in a game just back out, load up the walkthrough on some website then hop back into your game.

Well, to be fair, you could take screen shots with the PSP, and it was more than capable of doing plenty of tasks at the same time as well. It wasn't the hardware limiting the features....

Would be awesome to also record gameplay. Sweet enough though with this.

Yup spot on.

Another feature we had on the PSP that should be easily done with the Vita. With hardware like this, we could see Sony implement some serious software the users really want.

They should hire some of the CFW devs, they may already have done so for Vita.

This makes no sense. The PSP had 32 MB Ram and a down-clocked cpu. It was severely limited on the hardware front as far as current gen features.

64MB in the 2000+ series'.

Yet, homebrew developers, namely Ahman (irshell) were able to build in multi-tasking, snapshots, learning iR, etc., while maintaining full functionality of the OS. Anyways... it's nothing surprising that Sony took a lot of pages from homebrew devs throughout the life of the PSP, and incorporating those features from the onset of Vita is a natural progression for the mobile platform.

I hope you can also use this feature for all games (PSP, PS1 etc.), not just Vita.
I'm going to say that it's going to be available for all. As long as the OS remains resident, this could be like a plug-in system for the OS. Regardless of whatever is running over that layer, certain core features of the OS will be resident and available.

Hopefully. I'm confused why Sony still hasn't added ingame XMB for PS1 games on PS3 too.

Yeah I think you're right, it will be along the lines of taking screenshots on an iPhone, you can do it at any time no matter whats on-screen
