So, I've been spending too much time with this game...; Half Brick, developers of the hit Fruit Ninja, bring Jetpack Joyride to our iOS devices.

It's an "auto-run" game, so nothing new in the genre really, but it's an packed with re-playability, for me anyways. So without further ado, I present - Jetpack Joyride: The Review!!

The premise? Guide Barry through the never ending maze of obstacles that include missiles, zappers, and lasers. You'll maneuver Barry with eight different jet packs ranging from your standard jet pack, to a shark head pack, and with the new update - a fruit jet pack (pun? lol). You can also change the "style" of your hero into several configurations with a head and body option. You can pair like parts, Fragger Helmet and Fatigues, or mix and match things up; green Mohawk with a lap coat for example.

The controls are simple enough, even a caveman could do it. Touching the screen activates your chosen jet pack. Remove your oily digit from the screen, jet pack - off. Up, down, up down, walk, etc. Monotonous? Not really. There are several "vehicles" that you'll run into during your auto-run endeavors. Each one provides different challenges with control, speed, and agility. Once you've been hit by an obstacle, or run into one, you'll be back on your feet and jet pack.

You gather coins during game play, and these are used to purchase upgraded vehicles, clothes, or utilities. The utilities come in handy for trying to get the most out of each game; which is to say, as far as you can go. From getting a head start, to buying an extra life, or giving yourself an extra boost after death... You can buy these items one at a time, or in packs; saving a little money in the process. While you're guiding your chosen setup through the sometimes frustrating maze of obstacles, you'll have a chance to collect spin tokens to use after you've died. However many you collect during the run of play, you'll get a chance on the games slot machine. You can win several different prizes; more spins, coins, extra life, extra boost after death, head starts, etc.

You'll also be presented with different challenges to complete. Each challenge completed with earn you a certain amount of stars. Collect enough stars, you'll progress to the next level. Different challenges earn you a different amount of stars. After each challenge completed, you'll earn more to complete. There are 15 levels to go through. After you've completed them all, you'll have the chance to "cash in" and reset your level; in the process you'll earn a special badge to signal your accomplishments.

The game does have Gamecenter integration and Open Feint, you can choose which to display as your preference; both services get the data uploaded so you can change this at your leisure. The game also supplies you with 50 achievements to earn. Some are easy, and some are down right frustrating. All are able to be accomplished with time and patience. The game keeps track of just about everything you do and provides you with a fruit basket of statistics. From how far your best vehicle run (for each type), to how far you've slid on your face; there's plenty of info for you to smile at.

The graphics are top notch, end of story. The details present are pretty extraordinary. You'll notice the heat coming from the vents in the areas that have it. Smoke trails, jet pack effects, crisp animations, and varying backgrounds, all keep the game looking gorgeous on my iPhone 4. The sounds are equally impressive. Each jet pack has its own unique sound. You'll also enjoy, or not, the pitter patter of your footsteps should you choose to give your jetpack a rest. There is a funky soundtrack to go along with the rest of the goodies, and it's optional whether you want to keep it on or not.

There you have it folks. Another fine game for iOS device users. The game is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1.3 or later. I personally have played it on my iPhone 4 and first generation iPod Touch. The touch had a slower frame rate, but it was completely playable. I hope you enjoyed the review, and you should definitely check out this great game.
