TOKYO--During Nintendo's shareholders meeting on Wednesday, company president Satoru Iwata disclosed that the Revolution's launch might fall behind that of its rivals.

During a question-and-answer session, stockholders asked Iwata if there was any danger that Nintendo would lag behind Microsoft and Sony in entering the next-generation console war. He gave the following cryptic response: "There is no possibility that the Revolution's launch will fall behind by too much, but there might be some small changes [in its release schedule]."

Until today, Nintendo has said only that the Revolution will be released in 2006 in North America, without specifying any date. Iwata's comments indicate that the console could appear after the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3, which is currently slated for a spring 2006 launch in the US. Microsoft's Xbox 360 will arrive on store shelves during the 2005 holiday season worldwide.

In an effort to quell investors' fears, Iwata assured the crowd that Nintendo is prepared for the next-generation console war with a "long-term plan on what kinds of titles will be released at what stage" for the Revolution. The company has announced a number of first-party games for the machine, including new installments in its Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros., Metroid, and Donkey Kong franchises.

Nintendo won't team up with there Live Rivals. If the Revolution launch after the PS3, all I can say is that Nintendo has lost there mind and should start packing there bags, or that they better really suprise there customers...

the rev. needs as much help as possilbe to keep up with sony and microsoft. a late release would kill them.

Nintendo is not very smart if i were them i would stop making consoles and sell the eclusive titles such as Mario donkey kong etc. etc. On the other hand they should make a console with sony or microsoft, then they have the power again, but for now nintendo is dieing.......shame but it's true. Atari has stopped making consoles and is now in games only and Sega has stopped also making consoles, and is now making allot more money on making videogames that was a very smart move, now if nintendo can't compete anymore with the other consoles why don't they do something smart........ :?

My guess is Iwata wants to make a surprise release. Both the 360 and PS3 are going to have to live up to a lot of hype (that frankly, they won't in the first year or two due to development requirements on multithreaded games)... Nintendo wants to capitalize on that as "an affordable alternative" this time around.

I do think they would be wise in releasing their system as soon as possible after the PS3, though. At least in Japan, anyways.

This is a total non-surprise. Sony shows up at E3, shows off PS3, new controller, games (sort of:D), everything. Microsoft, same thing. Nintendo, the Revolution and nothing else. It's clear that they're the least ready of the three.

It seems they are being cautious of all the hype that's surrounding the gaming industry and its rivals these days. They maybe waiting for it to settle down before making a solid move, especially given its controller has been ridiculed many times in the press lately. Besides, Nintendo always plays safe since they don't have cash like Microsoft or Sony to take another heavy blow in the next-generation.

come to me that nintendo don't care about $ony and M$ at all and what there doing. it like you sell sell shoes and other guy sell booths. Nintendo is targeting a different market and not worry about other companys and stuff. as long as nintendo make's it's profit there found. but I'm done with nintendo and all the same games with nice looks. :?

Keep in mind, Nintendo will not " pull a sega " Out of all 3 companys ( gaming only ) they make by far the most profit.

Umm, you all need to remember that lauching at the end doesn't mean the death of a console. I know many people that are fans of Nintendos. People will most likely buy it. And this is also Nintendos last try in the consoles. If they flop they aren't coming back. So it's just worth a try.

yes i know that but if they team up with sony or microsoft they will have a larger public to meet and much more software to release if you know what i mean, more public means more money means more software means more money..... you all still get it

It appears that European PS3 owners got a little perk from SCEE simply for living in the continient in which Home is being developed. All though there is no official confirmation, several unofficial confirmations (and this picture originating from the IGN Insiders board) have led to a single conclusion. It appears as if Sony has met their April deadline by mere hours, as the closed PlayStation Home beta has gone live in Europe!

With only a select few G.A.P. members getting in, we imagine people are staring at their 30 person buddy lists in jealousy as a single one of their friends enjoys the thrills Home has to offer. Americans seem to be particularly jealous right now, as nobody on Western shores has yet confirmed their acceptance as of this writing. However, we've been hearing the date May 1st as confirmation for acceptance into the North American beta, so if that date is indeed true nobody will have to hold their breath for too much longer.

Keep watch at PSU.com for all the up to date news on PlayStation Home.
