Activision has coughed up USD $42 million to former employees and Call of Duty creators Vince West and Jason Zampella.
The payment to the former Infinity Ward co-heads wasn't part of a settlement, reports The Verge (http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/5/14/3020671/activision-pays-42m-to-former-infinity-ward-devs-not-a-settlement). Rather, it was Activision doing what is in its best interest before the case goes to trial.
Activision owes a number of former Infinity Ward employees bonuses from Call of Duty, dating back to 2010 when 38 members of the "Infinity Ward Employee Group" asked for their money.
Activision's payment will now allow it to go up against West and Zampella during the trial, rather than all of its disgruntled former employees.
The $42 million paid will go to 40 former employees. However, it is short of what the group was asking for.
