mabe we should get points for posting here. it would encourage more suggestion and make the people that do get something for doing it. in all we try to say what would help make the forum better and we could get something for it.

If people have suggestions that they feel like posting then they will do it, we really don't need points for giving suggestions.

i was just saying since most of the suggestions help and they cant just talk about anything.
Points shoudn't be given out that easily and this would just promote spammers. I thnk we should have a lottery were every month the admin draws out one name from random( how the admin does it should be their idea) and the winner should be awarded a given number of points.
Infact I used to go on a forum called PSOTAKUS and this was very successful until the site went under because of poor funding.

I think we should get points everywhere we post. I don't feel there's enough points given out to buy 3000 point things (not to say 15 000 points needed for title).
Post higher quality posts. Quality over quantity.

How does a computer know how good of quality your post is?

Indeed. The point system is flawed. It goes largely by the amount of words in your post. My posts tend to be consice and to the point, but such a point system encourages rambling and superfluous posts. Mods & admins providing extra points for high quality posts can help balance certain flaws, but only so much. The mods aren't going to run around awarding too many points because others will feel neglected, etc.
Oh well.
With quantitity I mean alot of posts, with quality I mean long posts like several paraghraphs instead of 2 sentences. Mods already take away points for spamming etc and now and then they give people points for their good posts or something else they did that was worth getting points for. If you didn't know about the latter one is because they don't make an announcement when they do that and the users that get them are usually mature enough not to make a post about it saying they got some extra skill points.
So IMO the point system is fine as it is now.

what is the big deal about points. If you just post normal you will get point in do time. don't worry so much about points.
No systems perfect but we try to moderate the users points as much as fairly as possible to ensure that people posting waffle get deductions and people posting quality get rewards. Essentially the Mods balance out the flaws as best we can. Besides we could scrap the whole system but most people really like being able to by items and effects so it would be an unpopular move.
@Hoverbike:
You know you can get predictive analytical systems that analyse things, how do you think speech recognition works, they analyse what comes through and compare, then show a result.
Thats all that would need to happen.
I think theres a simple dumbed-down version of it on here that does analyse what you type, it can give points for new paragraphs, use of punctuation etc...
But a really good quality one would slow the forum right down, these kind of things arent very good for stuff like servers running forums, plus they usually take quite alot of space.
Any mods/admins comfirm this?
There must be, i changed a comma to a full stop (punctuation mistake) and i got points.

Hey everyone (particularly Seb and Kieran),
Yet another of my friends has expressed interest in writing for PSU. He sent me a writing sample and I figured I'd post it here so you can critique it. Btw his emails are joefredholland@comcast.net (main) or flyguyfry69@yahoo.com (other) if you want to contact him seb/kieran.

The Answers Lies in the Mirror
J.D. Salinger’s main character Holden Caulfield has sparked much controversy in The Catcher in the Rye. A deeply convoluted character, Holden is misinterpreted by many. He appears to some as a depressed teenage loser, but he has much more to him then that. As smart as Holden is, he is blinded by all of his judgments and his inability to effectively evaluate himself. At the center of the Holden Caulfield is a teenager who is afraid to understand himself and instead wrongly judges others.
Standing six feet two inches tall, going gray, and only seventeen years of age, Holden Caulfield’s mind is far behind his adult frame. Throughout The Catcher in the Rye Holden’s extremely childish analytical thought process is repeatedly exhibited. Although this is true, rarely does Salinger show Holden exploring himself. While in a discussion with a teacher of his, Holden is asked if he has any concern for the future and responds “I guess not too much,â€
writing about salinger and writing about games is a pretty huge difference. can you get a more appropriate sample from him?

Alright sure... I just asked him for any paper he had already written. I'll ask him to write something gaming related.
