What do you think willl be better
PlayStation 3
07-22-2004, 16:07
PSP ofcourse, it is the superior handheld :D It has the same power of a PS2, yup that's right the same power of a PS2 on a handheld
Shocking powerfull stuff :D
Also has many extra's too, like MP3 player, Movie playback etc ... :D
Lets see the DS beat that :D
PSP is more of a gadget which will appeal to the older crowd. Honestly I wouldnt even compare the two except for the fact they each play games.

Firstly I would say they are definitely comparable. They are both handheld gaming devices and as such fall under the same category. Despite PSP being for a more mature audience I still think they are comparable. I wouldn’t give my PSP to any little kid 'cause he would probably spill juice all over it  . DS will be a kiddie Handheld like a Gameboy and PSP will remain a cool gadget/ accessory...kind of like IPOD except you can watch films and play games on it in a 16:9 colour screen!
Secondly GU. I know that you know the information that Dan said about the UMD discs, but many people didn't. His post was helpful to other forum members like he said, so please don't come across as arrogant when there are many out there who would benefit from the information he was providing.

Ohhh ok thanks  Never knew that Capital B meant byte and a lower-case b meant bit
Thanks agian  btw how old are you GU?
Cause you tend to know alot about computers etc?
I know an ok amount about computers and all  but not a great deal a lot more than anyone my age anyways :D
you guys have to remember the price of both systems! not everybody can afford a psp. and since everybody has a ps2 and an mp3 player already, the psp may be useless to alot of people. especially when ps3 and xb2 come out, everybody will get one and ps2 games will become less appreciated.
althogh the ds will be very similar to everything else nintendo will have to offer when it comes to the games it will support, it is so different than anything else that i think it will appeal to many people.
laslty, all of you are wrong for trying to compare the two systems by what you know so far. for all of you computer lovers out there you will know exactly what i mean, you cant compare a mac to a pc, sure there both computers but they run completey different. a 2 gig procesor on a mac is faster than a 2.5 on a pc. and macs almost never crash or get viruses like pcs do. find out more info about the two before you make so many assumptions, one may be more user friendly than the other and one may have better games...
by the way i would prefer a psp over a ds
Me and gaming ultima have already made the point about how you cant compare the two, yet no one really listens. Yes the price of both of them will be different. The only thing that doesnt make sense is that you are saying just because someone has a PS2 they wont want a PSP. I dont understand that logic. How come the GBA sales like crazy yet many people have a Gamecube?

Im not a big fan of macintosh. Its too hard to learn the BASICS while they basics are easy to learn on windows. I also like windows layout. Problem with windows is its too hard to get into the more complex stuff... if MS were to fix that, make it a bit easier, then the only flaws owuld be the flaws that can happen on anything.
i personaly dont like hand helds that much but thenagain i do need a MP3 player so i might buy the psp and as for the mac pc comparison there is software to help out with windows or you can just get linux and also macs are incapable pc's have much more to offer

No offence, but that doesnt sound very lady like, and I would say that the PSP's appealing, but I wouldnt consider it to be sexy. Well, what would I know.
oppps sorry....I'm pretty random...hmmm...this forum seems very mature compare to u.s. playstation forums.
oh well...yeah I think its sexy.....only because I'm a geek.
Okay from your last few posts we've established that you’re going to play your PSP whilst on the crapper and that you have a sexual attraction to the device. Okay well whatever floats your boat.

Alright, PSP is directed at a different target apparently, and DS is attracted to little kids
PSP - 149.95? or was is 199.95
DS - 149.95 or 99.95?
PSP I don't think comes with a memory stick...which costs like 90 bucks?!

depends on what memory stick you get, Sony are reducing the price on all of their memory sticks now anyway
now where was i, oh yea MP3 or ATRAC, MP3 or ATRAC i wonder hmmm
Well as I have stated I am not really much into hand helds mainly because most of the time I have better things to do but if sony does what nintendo did and connect the PSP to the PS2 I might just get it and as I have said I need a MP3 player
don_milz
08-31-2004, 16:53
I doubt it'll connect to the PS2. I think it's got more of a chance of connecting to PS3 than it has to PS2.
first of all if your a harcore gamer you would know that macs are way more capable than pcs. secondly your comments about people buying gba's even though the gcn is out was really confusing! if you for some odd reason didnt know, GBAs and GCNs use different types of games. thats why people bought the GBA. PSP is going to be usefull for people who want to play Devil May Cry 2 again after beating it 6 times on the 'ol ps2. i have two mp3 players (ipod, iriver 140) and i dont want to buy another one because they are dam expensive! why would i want to play movies, i have a tv too.
umberto please get well in the name of Jesus Christo himself
don_milz
09-04-2004, 23:47
why would i want to play movies, i have a tv too.
Similarly....why would you want to buy a handheld, you a have a console too.
The point is the handheld will play some games that will not apear in the console. and this is the same for the movies, the psp will play some movies that you will not be able to watch on your TV.
But thats not the only reason, i bet you can't take your 42" TV (i'm guessing here....don't know what you have...but what ever TV you have is irrelevant) out, unless of course its a portable TV, but then, you will have to face you're own question....why would you want a portable TV...you already have a TV.

The price of the PSP is going to be under 200 bucks and the DS is 179.99. DS isn't worth it. PSP will be my upgrade for my MP3 player, Music Video player and portable game system.
All that and a bag of chips? neh? by the way you have a source for it being under 200 bucks or pure speculation?
Yea, I cant recall the release price of the PSP being known yet. You cant take speculation as fact.

10-06-2004, 17:19
I didn't say it was fact did I..but anyway thats what I've heard from Sony but its not definite yet. So don't take it as fact. Its an around what its gonna be.
Your on speaking terms with Sony? How is that the case if you dont mind me asking. I know you obviously work for a gaming related site as your sig seems to hint but very few gaming sites get to speak personally with companies such as Sony, MS, and Nintendo.
lol which idiot voted 4 the ds lmao he must have been messin coz y wud u seriously :? psp will wipe the floor clean with the ds the only reason nintendo has been top in the handheld market is because theres been no good competition from any1 else :D
Go back to grade school and learn to form a halfway intellegent argument. People have their opinions, thus far we cant say which will do better. Dont open your mouth to show disrespect for another system unless it is halfway objective and less fanboyish. Obviously the "other console" boards dont keep all Sony fanboys away.

I'm going for the psp for several reasons. I think the games coming out on the psp will be very amusing, well thats just an opinion. Like the armored core game where you have to fully customize your robots, like a robot manager game, i think it has some good potential. Another reason is the posibility to play movies on it.
I know there are a lot of people who will go for the DS becouse nintendo has so much experience on handhelds. Well i think sony needs a chance to prove itself. So ye im going for the psp :)

PeanutButterMunky
12-09-2004, 18:49
I don't think you can do that. They're planning on making the PSP compatible with the PS3; however, that doesn't mean transferring game data from one system to a completely different one...
FmanFORPS3

then what does it mean....even if its not officaly stated, but what do u think they'll do?
PeanutButterMunky
12-09-2004, 18:54
It may be very possible that they'll have game data transferring or something to that nature when the PS3 is released.
The PlayStation 3 is expected to feature wireless LAN functionality which will allow it to communicate with nearby PSP units, and may potentially be used to transfer media such as music, movies and pictures as well as for game functions - although whether consumers will respond positive to such functionality remains to be seen.
But the details so far are a little iffy...

Well the DS is coming out for the holiday season so therefore it could end up beating the PSP sales wise. Seeing how no parent is going to tell there kid christmas morning"Sorry but you have to wait till the end of march".But that will then again lead to the DS being a kiddy toy. Otherwise the PSP is greater then the DS in nearly every aspect, except the all to apperent almoust non existent battery life(makes me want to cry). But ummm PSP is gonna be flabergasting(i love that word)!

the wireless capability is amazing dude and its gonna be the same for PSP. the wireless is not how you think though. it is not for all PSP users its just a local wireless network.
Let me just start by saying the poll results don't really surprise me, because this is after all a PlayStation site. If I were to be asked right now which I perfered, my choice would be as obvious as these poll results, the PSP. But don't count Nintendo out of the race because they've lead the handheld market for more than 15 years, with that being said they know it better than anyone. The same can be said about Sony in the home console realm, they've been the unriveled, unquestioned, unequaled, and undisputed leaders of home consoles for almost 11 years.
I think Nintendo will lose some fans in the coming years, mostly the older crowd - or better said, the casual gamers, this being mainly because of the way Nintendo does business, 60% of all GBA games are based on kid's licences.'
I don't think you will see Sony beating Nintendo to a pulp any time soon because as I've mentioned many times in this post - they know this market better than anyone.

Actually market-wise Sony is in a very comfortable position, but I'm not talking about power or market positions, if power ever played any role in this market than it would be the Xbox, not the PS2 selling 75 million units world-wide. I am talking about a well-established fanbase Nintendo has and of course their much talked about 'innovation,' those two things combined are what continually make the Game Boy brand outsell powerhouses like Sony's own PlayStation franchise(in general, this includes both the PS and the PS2.)
mckmas8808

The PS and PS2 together sold close to 200 million units. If the Game Boy brand is outselling it then how many units has Nintendo sold.

1st of all i'm going for the PSP.
Why?
Great games, with great graphics
+ cool design, mp3 player
that's all i care about
I dont even consider DS as an option.
Cause they dont really have anything new to offer me gameswise...
i had a gameboy and yeah it was a lot of fun, BUT that was when i was 8 :)
ive already played mario, pokemon, yoshi and all the others on myy nes, snes, N64 and GB and yeah it was i had tons of fun but again that was a loooong time ago and ive had enough of them...
I agree there's some level of innovation in the DS, the touchscreen and all that, but im so fed up with mario and his associates this new feature cant really make me buy another nintendo. That's why i bought an xbox not a GC ( already have a ps2)
Now i need a gadget that is useful on longer journeys(more than 2-3 hours) and includes all the features i need (mp3 player and games...)
so I'm going for the PSP.
Actually if the psp was not an option i wouldnt buy a handheld at all.
i'd rather use my phone(SymbianOS) for games and the old mp3 player.
and not spend a great deal of money on games and stuff...
BTW. does anyone know realease dates for Europe?
i havent seen the ds here yet... thogh it's been out for quite some time in the us and japan. What about PSP?
Nintendo DS couldn't hold a candle to PSP. I have the DS and have been very disapointed in it. I bought Tiger Woods for it and thought about buying mario for it. They need to get on the ball and come out with games people love. PSP has them beat and they haven't even released anything for it. Nintendo is sad and the Nintendo 21 (so called name) will prolly be just as sad. No one wants to play cartoon only based games. The whole Mario look isn't what people are looking for. New systems are coming out and better graphics are what people want. Cartoons can only be so good and I think they have hit it already. Real life is what people want. Blood, guts, and realism is what people are going for. The PSP is making it possible with the ability to take it on the go.

i chose the PSP for its superior graphics, multimedia capabilities and just because it looks so cool 8). the games on the PSP are awesome titles, but the most important game genre for me are RPG's, games like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Ys VI: the Ark of Napishtim, Tales of Eternia and Eiyee Densetsu Gagharv Trilogy:Shiroki Majo will keep me busy for a long time :D.
racing games will also be great on the PSP, games like Ridge Racers, Need For Speed Underground Rivals, Wipeout Pure and Axel Impact International are just sweet :D. i also wonder what Gran turismo 4 Mobile will look like on that beautiful screen 8).
i will still get the Nintendo DS though, i cant wait to play Metroid Prime Hunters, Castlevania DS and Final Fantasy 3 on the it. in the end the PSP has the upper hand in many areas, and will appeal to many different groups of people.

Grand Theft Auto is not a RPG, it's an action game.

Grand Theft Auto is more like an Action-RPG. An RPG doesn't mean it has to be like Final Fantasy. GTA is very RPG-esque, but it's more like a few genres thrown together. But I know where you're coming from.

I get what you mean, but the only way it would fall into a rpg category to me would be the fact that you are playing the role of a character, but the gameplay is not that of a rpg(and i do recognize there are many types of rpgs), though the latest GTA is more RPG ish since you can customize and in a sense level up your caharacters attributes and skills.
Thats true, i would consider (under my new catagory) it beeing an AARPG (action-aventure role playing game) :D hey it makes sence dusnt it, but any ways, i dont see the DS having such big titles like the PSP has, and that could actually squash the DS, like a bug.

well, GTA 3 and GTA vice werent so RPG alike, but San andreas had many RPG aspects to it, like the stats, eating, staying in shape, learning new fighting techniques, learning new driving, flying, bike riding techniques, i see what ya mean

ya at least you guys do know where I'm comin from....anyways, the PSP does definetly have a really good chance of beating the DS (I doubt it doesnt ) but one thing that sets the PSP off is the price. even though most people can afford the PSP, there are still people that want to buy it but because of the price they cant really...but I imagine that those people will get it when the price drops...

lol funny enough i had a nightmare last night.....it was about me going to buy my PSP, and i cost 399.99$ needless to say i was freekin out in the dream. but the PSP much better video and better games will crush the DS totally.
I had a dream of playing with the DS, and then i put it on the floor and stamped on it till it was pulverized into the ground, and then i went and got a PSP of a stranger wearing burberry, must have been a chav (around England Chav is a life style, mainly for idiots). any ways i need to keep of indigestion tabs before bed.
Add-on: In this dream i flew away like a hack in Counter strike... lol

suuuuure "indigestion" tabs.....
im a little uncomfortable with the fact that i have seen very little evidence of the PSP's comming to the USA (granted, i don't get alot of time to goof off with TV, but still) and i would have liked there to be a sort of unvieling of the UMD already, to get the public ready for the media.
I dunno, i geuss this is just Sony's first test to see if the water is the right temp for them to jump into the American market, or if they have to mainstream a few things first.
The release date has been set, for the 25th of March, (i think) but EUROPE dusnt get it till god knows when!

well the US release date is the 24th and Europe has not been anounced yet. and here is my source.-
Sony Computer Entertainment America has finally confirmed a date for the American release of its PSP (Playstation Portable) console. The console will be released on March 24th 2005 and will include a 32MB Memory Stick Duo, Headphones, Soft case, sample disc and screen cleaning cloth in the value pack, which is the same as the Japanese release. The value pack will cost $249.99 US. Also, the first one million Value packs will include the feature film Spiderman 2 in UMD format. There has been no official game release line-up unveiled just yet however but it is expected very soon.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe still has not set any official date for the European release of the PSP console. However, the U.S. retail price of $249.99 has some gamers worried about the price of the console in Europe. The rumoured price to expect in the UK will be £180. With the console being launched so late in March it is very unlikely that the European release date will be set for March also-

Heavenly Sword at E3
By: Justin Pinter
One of the most outstanding titles to showcase at this years E3 for the Sony PS3 and its not even close to done. During and after the Sony Press Confrence on Monday, people gathered to view and test out the new title from Ninja Theory, Heavenly Sword.
From the gameplay shown at the Sony Press Confrence and videos of people at E3 playing the game at the Sony booth the game looks pretty impressive, not just in the graphics department but animations as well.
Seonaidh Davenport, lead producer of Heavenly Sword talked about the game and some of her favorite features, "I'm really, really excited about the combat of the game, and also the way we've really been able to push the technology of the PS3 to get just these gorgeous environments. I mean, the tech team has really just... plowed through and made really great use of the technology."
"...the animations are fantastic, and the combat system has been underway for about two year, so we've had a lot of time and we've spent a lot of time really refining it and honing it, and just-- just, making it feel really good. So it's a very broad system, you can pick it up and feel really good and powerful, but it also goes really deep, so there's loads of combos, there's three stances that you can change between, on the fly, in the middle of a combo, and then we just have these great payoff moves that just-- just make you feel so powerful.
And then the other thing is we really want to bring people into the title and make it, really hit people emotionally, which we can do now, almost in the way that a movie does except you're the star of the movie. And I know that a lot of people talk about that with next-gen technology, but it's really, really important...The combat is designed to scale up from really individual battles, up to group-- we call them grombos: group combos. So that the enemies, they're attacking you as a group intelligently. And that's gonna scale all the way up to the battalion and army levels, and we'll have sufficient weapons to deal with that as well. "
We've heard the game will also encorparate a unique counter system which will allow for reversals and blocks which should be fun. Other than that the game features fluid animation unique detailed character modles.
The game is said to not come out with the launch of the PS3 but sometime soon after. So with having more than 6 months left, we should see a lot more later this year as development continues and Ninja Theory unvails more of Heavenly Sword's secrets.
