on the first pic where are the B & W buttons, unless they are on the top but thats just like a ps2 controller. the analogues in the position of the ps2 control, start and back are.
oh and like in the second pic, would anyone want an x-box with GC colours.
the third one looks like a bread bin.
I think I could be more creative then some of these people. 3rd one defintally sucks and yea the 2nd one is just an Xbox colored like a Gamecube. Bleh, Im glad M$, Sony, and Nintendo dont ask people to submit their ideas for the design of their consoles.

HOLY HELL those things are ugly. The 5th one especially, it looks like a 70's record player, and or the first model of the VCR. Whats funny is that most of those are huge like the current X-box model
Hey check it out the real X-BOX 2 Specs on the first model LOL

Thats cuz the design was taken from a laser printer, and there prolly isnt much size dofference either!

Wow, I am always amazed by how off people are.
People always model what looks cool to them. Has anyone ever tried to model something that looks cool and pratical at the same time? Something that over 50 Million (hopefully) people will want in their living room?
The actual design blows away anything I have seen from the community.
well...if you've seen the layout of the actual design, describe it to us in words we can't understand :D
Microsoft need to improve the design on the Xbox if they wan't to rival PS3 come the next generation. My advice is make it less box-like, perhaps taking a page out of Sony's book and making it slim or at least make it a bit smaller.
I would love to comment further, but this is one area where I can't. I do know too much.

o ok then...i hope the next xbox isnt round; i dont know why but i just dont like how round systems look
It is curvy but not round. It is quite small compared to the current Xbox, but not quite on the level of the original playstation or dreamcast. More around the size of the original PS2.
o ok then...i hope the next xbox isnt round; i dont know why but i just dont like how round systems look
In the history of gaming consoles, when have we ever seen a round system? The PSONE might be the closest we have seen to it considering it's edges are sorta curved.
Actually it's edges are curved, the psone took out the parallel port I think. and is oval-ly shaped....
That's what I just said watashi, but it's not round by any means.

i kinda liked how large my xbox is. i affectionatly call it the Tank. I had a news story once where sombody got so mad playing a multiplayer game they left the room and returned with a 9mm handgun and shot the Xbox twice. The cops arrested him because the ppl in the room were not too happy about that but the xbox still ran fine. Wish i had the pictures of that still, but anyway...
A smaller rounded look would be fine. something that doesnt take up a shelf and half in my entertainment system. Also wireless controlers standard would be a big plus. I dont really mind the batteries as long as they dont get drained very quickly.

i think you can still find the old playstation logo on the back of games in the small print. they could change the xbox logo and everything but Microsoft is known for so many other things, i think it would be important to marketing to keep some aspect of the logo intact.
What I want to know is the real of XBox 2. So, what is it, XBox 2, Xenon, or something completely different? It's driving me crazy hearing everyone call it something different.
PS, I think the logo will have most of the same features of XBox, yet be only slightly different.

PeanutButterMunky

Yes, I think I remember him saying that it's in-between both. But he also said the design has gotten even sleeker the last time he checked. Microsoft wants to appeal to the Japanese market this time, because they failed miserably last time. It will most certainly be smaller. Same goes for the controllers.

i wonder who actually designed the controllers for the Xbox. they must have been pretty big people  .
PeanutButterMunky
01-30-2005, 03:31
It was a branch off the Microsoft Sidewinder controllers, and those are pretty big.
Ahh, the console design, it is amazing to what lengths they are going to keep it underwraps.
Don't be surprised to see some "leaked" pictures (someone always takes pictures and leaks them) of the initial development kits based on near final hardware. The funny thing, these will in no way represent the actual design of either the console itself, or of the final development kits (which will look very similar to the console)

I'm sure they've learned their lesson this time. No need to have a console that you must turn vertically to get it through your front door. ;) Just kidding.
Since it is safe to assume that both the PS3 and Xenon will be comparable in features (heavy duty processing, amazing visuals, 4 controllers, and rumours of wireless of different types) i'm iterested to see what exactly xenon will do to distance itself from the PS3 design.
Obviously MS is not going to allow their console to be anyway misconstrued with Sony's, but if many features end up being the same, its logical to think that the size will be similar, and there are only so many designs that allow for eas acess dvd loading, easy access controller ports, storage, etc.

hmmm am I the only person who doesn't care how big it is or what it looks like?
It can be a big octagon for all I care as long as it works good and is a big improvment(graphics, load times, features, etc) from xbox.
Performance is all I care about.
hmm i dont think youd be saying that if it was the size of an air conditioner and made a louding poping sound everytime you turned it on, but i get your point.
From a marketing perspective though, if MS doesnt do something different from Sony, then people who go to the store are going to say "hmm, whats the diference..?" and then they will start reading the box which is not what MS wants if the PS3 is as pwerful as we think it might be. MS wants to make sure that their console will look nothing like anything else, and im sure it does. Im just wondering how they can do this exactly if there are only so many ways that the public will like to put in a DVD, plug in a controller etc.

I don't think xbox is that big and I am sure it'll be sized down a bit since a lot of people don't like it that big.

Flamming? I was just joking around hence the wink.
i dunno, I didn't sense any flaming there.
And i am sure that it will be perfectly functional, i just wonder what they are dong to make sure that it looks considerably different from Sony, and the other side of that coin, i wonder what Sony is doing to make the PS3 notably different from the PS2.
Being that I don't know how Sony's PS3 is going to look, it is hard for me to say how they are going to look different from each other.
All I can state is that the Xbox2 looks completely different from any other console currently on the market. In my opinion, it is darn near a piece of art.
I'd say it is safe to assume it will be mostly flat, angular, possibly with a brushed metal look, and most likely have an obvious, yet understanded X on it somewhere. (Not like the big one on top, just a nice face plate or something)
I would assume it will stick with the green light from the inside sort of motif and have a nice easy to interpret brushed smooth front.
That's where i'm putting my money. Brushed aluminum look, trimmed with neon grren glow from the inside.
Nothing regarding the Xbox2 design is "safe to assume". Trust me when I say that it does not follow sony in anyway.
anyonw know wat the resolution will be on for the hd dvd?
Resolution of video is not in and of itself dependant on the media that it is recorded to.
Example
You could put a two hour 720p movie on a Dual Layer DVD using WMV9
Put simply: It's more or less dependant on the combination of: resolution + compression + codec used to compress. Well, of course, the media still does matter to an extent (afterall, a 30GB HD-DVD can obviously store more than the 15GB version).
Final verdict on the appearance form me, im gonna go with flat top, flat with an X carved in a smooth line in the front, with bent legs (like little triangles cut out of the top and bottom and the two sides of the face plate, to make it look like an X) trimmed with green or green neon from inside. Of course, all dark brush steel.
EDIT: whished for of course, but not a prediction by any stretch
Just the case itself that you called out would cost over 45$ to make. From complexity to using brushed steel.
On top of this it would have excessive weight which would increase the shipping costs thus increasing the overall cost of goods.
The neon light would risk annoying users of the system and would draw extra power. This would increase the power requirements of the Powersupply. This would thus increase the cost of the system for nothing more than a novelty. On top of that, Neon light generate high amounts of heat. This would cause them to have to increase the size of the system to compensate.
Not going to happen.
bustabusta196
02-11-2005, 23:22
Why do people feel the need to pimp there console with unnecessary neon lighting lol.. are you going to spend 200+ dollars on something just cause it lights up a certain color?? Highly doubt it.. but if you feel the need to have lights on it or any really cool colors there are plenty of sites online that show you how you can do stuff like that.

Heh. So what do you mean "curvy"?
5th.
(I really wish we knew someone who worked for Sony, I'm really interested in what they're cookin'. It's either going to be really great, or "meh". )
Well, im sure it will be different, and i HOPE it will be great.
It would be cool if they managed to make it so small it looked like one of those new Apple computers. Sleek and tiny. I suppose it would have lots of apllications too, be able to put it in a car easily and whatnot. I wonder if they are trying to go as SMALL as possible this time, or just co for a classy look that happens to be a little smaller? Cause either way would be cool looking and different.
From what I have seen, they could actually make it smaller than it is going to end up being, but to enhance the design aspect of it, it ended up a little bigger.
That shows a real dedication to make sure that it looks spectacular, when they could just be safe, make it supersmall and then compare to Sony, but they want to make sure that it looks great. Im really looking forward to have such beutiful pieces of machinery in my apartment (ass oppossed to hiding game machines under TV behind closed doors most of the time)

Well, Siren, keeps saying its a peice of art, its a piece, of art... 1st off I wonder what his taste in art is... if its modern M$ can kiss the X2 goodbye! ^^ No, nom seriously, I'm guessing it'll be a standard rectangle with all the corners and edges rounded and smooth. The colors with be perl white and a deep blue. YES, no more green! The blue parts will be that see through plastic kinda stuff tinted blue, obviously, and have maybe a small place on front. If the Xpod resurrection rumors are indeed true then the Xpod will also follow these lines of colors, and maybe will have a small light blue lcd on the bottom so when it connects to the x2 you'll gain a small LCD display. It'll sit on top of the X2 and connect some how... maybe a hidden plastic piece that pops on and off to show the connection port. There'll be a slide out DVD drive in the front that when retracted will have a thin black silouette that out lines it on the front and will be barely visible, because its been worked into the front design. There'll be no controller ports... just a smooth rounded surface... since it'll be wireless... and a small blue LED will light up for each controller connected to the sys... e.g. 4 controllers 4 LED lights. Maybe they'll have an X shap as well?? so assuming 4 controllers it'd be something like....
Also, there'd be no buttons to open the DVD drive... you'd touch the big X and it would open... pressure sensitive perhaps??
As much as i like blue, Xbox can't go with it, Sony already used it in all their packaging for the PS2. People have a connection there, and as such, MS doesn't want people thinking that the XBOX2 is copying ANYTHING that Sony has done.
The more i hear about those pressure opening doors like touch lamps, the more i like the sound of it. ealy uturistic. unfortunately im willing to bet that it would break down easily and get messed up by dirt and such.
muchuukuri
02-25-2005, 05:09
Baaahh, ok, so it can't be blue.... I guess a light green then?? I dunno the green just doesn't work, IMO, but well, I guess they're stuck. The reason I say this, is if you put light green up to white or say silver (the brushed metal look is popular with many) is looks underscored and there's poor contrast... I can't see it looking all that great in green, but who knows.

Need for Speed Carbon trailer at E3
E3 is a place for gaming, a place to start a franchise, and a place to continue a franchise. EA has announced several continuing franchises, and none of them is more exciting that the Need for Speed series.
Need for Speed Carbon was unannounced this year, but is making an appearance at EA's booth, and had a short showing at Sony's Pre-E3 conference.
There hasn't been any official word from EA, so details are scarce, however, having been shown at Sony's conference, expect to see it on the PS3.
