The Vertical PS2 was an innovative way in which Sony not only added functionality to the console, but also style. The Sony Playstation has always had a slightly more mature audience, due to its games, styling, and advertising campaigns not to mention the Home Entertainment Direction Sony has been taking.

But will Sony make the PS3 vertical? Or will Sony opt for a different approach maybe focusing more on power than looks. Sony are never ones to skimp on aesthetics or the internal workings of their consoles, so maybe Sony will adopt the Vertical design solving storage problems and blowing conventional thought once again with the PS3.

some how i think that sony will go for the power and leave the looks till last but thats just me because they did that for the ps2 but even still they put alot of work into makeing it look good and they half succeded

No way, the PS2 is just beautiful. A wonderfully aesthetic piece of furniture. Althought they have been people complaining about disk-read errors (which i never get) when vertical.

I had some probs with my first PS2 - disc read errors etc. I think it was my fault though, sometimes I would leave the thing on for weeks! mostly when I was trying to complete MGS2 or FFX, it eventually stopped working and I got it replaced for £70.

lol cool if i was to get mine replaced i would have to pay twice a much as that

The price I payed to get it replaced was discounted becuase the PS2 i got in replacement had been faulty, but had been fixed. Hence the lower price. It was'nt a brand new console.

That concept is the best one I've seen, I'd be happy if the final design was anything like that! :D

I've always had virtually always had my PS2's vertical and not once a DRE. I guess you have to expect a fairly higher failure rate with products like the PS2 that go into such a high production. I guess I just got lucky

they put alot of work into makeing it look good and they half succeded How can you be sure they put alot of work into it?

I think that the PS2 is a mark amongst consoles. I will go out on the edge and say "the Xbox is more powerfull etc" but the PS2 has very high qaulity games as far as I have considered.

To be honest I think that Sony has never stayed powerfull for very long but they have the edge of the games once again.

I did always keep mine vertical as well.
And yea that is true , sony have always had the weaker specced machines but won on games.

Definetly. I think people always forget you buy consoles to buy games. So if the qaulity of the console is good but the games are bad, what's the point.

good point but i don't think that would happen

yea like X-blox

Xbox, on paper, appears to be more powerful than the Playstation 2, however the difficulty of developing games for PS2 has resulted in under use of the emotion engine vector units and as a result the games on PS2 are harder to make look as good. The Head of the Gran Turismo series said that they believe that Gran Turismo 3 only uses something like 1/3 of the playstation 2's overall processing power. They worked this out using the Sony's performance analyser, which takes into accounts the actual peak performance of PS2.

That would mean that they could/will eventually find the proverbial "big red switch" that could catapult the graphics capabilities of the PS2 thus superseding the X-Blox.
Right?

No, not necessarily. As I said before the PS2 is very hard to develop for, any developer will tell you that. Technically all I’m saying is PS2 has power that is not always being utilised due to time and money constraints. Utilising the power is the hard bit - as optimising code gets more and more difficult the harder you push the console. Therefore the PS2 wont suddenly improve because its to hard and difficult to make it improve - but yes technically small improvements are possible - perhaps enough to rival Xbox (But that would be heavily debated). The only people who can tell you the answer to that are the Industry Experts, and they're just as divided on the subject as anyone else.

To further emphasize on morpheous' statement, if they were able to even fully utilize it's power it'd take a couple years and hard work before reaching that stage......clearly the PS2 only has a couple years left. In other words things look very grim for that to happen before the release of PS3.

You have to wonder though, What was Sony thinking? I know they had their own time constraints but comeon...they knew perfectly well the PS2 would be difficult to develop for.

My PS2 got stolen and I was forced to buy the slimelime version. Just keep your PS2 and wait for the PS3. If you have a disk-read error every once in a while than just try to live with it. Save your money!!

PS2 FAN!!!

Hi,

Is there any chance of adopting a forum spell checker in these forums simalar to PS3Forums? Could prove useful, seeing as how we use this forum to edit and re-write articles. Just a thought.

Interesting idea! One tip I've found very handy though is to copy and paste articles into MS Word and run a spell checker. Do you have any word processing software installed?

01-04-2006, 09:52
The spell checker is a nice tool, but sometimes it lacks of a good selection of word and/or lack words. I would rather do it in a word proccesing program. Its more reliable. Just a thought

Yes..lol.. I would normally use a word processor spell checker. But I am in a wierd position right now being in Iraq for a few days. The computer I am using is not even my own and has NO word processing software!?!?! Man some people are way behind..lol

I will make due somehow.. Maybe until I get back if I submit something for review if a team member could run it through a checker and re-post it.. that would be a great help! Thanks guys

There is also an online word proccesor, let me look for the link.http://www.writely.com/ it pretty much lets you do what a ms word proccesor will let you do.
