If Nintendo doesn't succeed with the Revolution then they will probably follow Sega's fate. Some of may think "oh noo Nintendo is not making consoles anymore noo".. but that may actually be a good thing. This way Nintendo could make games and put in their ideas with Sony or Microsoft (whichever they decide to team up with) and than we would get the greatness of our favorite Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Super Smash Bros, on the same console as popular franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Halo.
We'd be in a win win situation. Nintendo following Sega's path may be the best thing that can happen to Nintendo.
The only draw back I can see though is the console prices being up really high, since its Nintendo who makes the prices competitive... launching their GameCube at $199 for example at launch as opposed to Xbox and PS2's 299.

Good for Nintendo, I seriously doubt that good for the gamer most likely. But I don't think this will be Nintendo's last console. They make a lot of money off their consoles, since they actually make money from every console sold.
Yeh i dont think it would be good, and i dont see them going anywhere bad as Mastur Debater said, they are making a profit on all their consoles sold, and probably will again this time round, where both Sony and MS are losing money on each console.
And if this were to happen, then it just leaves Sony and MS, and 2 companies in gaming just isnt good, 4 didnt do too well either, 3 seems to be the right number lol.
And we dont even know much about Revolution anyway, so how do we know that they wont come out and make both systems look kinda boring.
Nintendo, for all we know, could come out with some super cool control system, a really cool console, we just dont know yet.

The Nintendo Gamecube launched at $249, I know because I bought it at launch.

I heard that the Big men of Nintendo stated that if they do go under, they won't make games for any other system. I read that hear somewhere in this forum, but i'm too damn tired to go look for it.

I don't think that is a fact. I sure nintendo did not say that at all. I mean thing's change and people have a different way of thinking. I'm sure nintendo some where down the line will make games for othere system if it came down to it.

That would be extremely dumb of Nintendo to just stop making games when they could make a huge profit off it. If they didn't the company would cease to exist unless they can survive on their handheld market which they probably can actually. Also, yeah it probably isn't good for the gamer if there is only Sony and Microsoft left, but the thing that would be nice is that the Nintendo exclusives may come out for Playstation and Xbox.
Hmm, let's see... Would this be the same way that having a two party system has "helped" American politics?
The fact that Nintendo can crawl away into the shadows and grow stronger while two titans are going to their respective banks to battle it out is a great thing, I think. Eventually, Sony or MS will get tired of throwing their money around and it will be at that exact generation in gaming when Nintendo will crawl out of its cave to keep things interesting..
Then the other two will try to stay competitive which means there won't be a "weak" generation of gaming. But if we leave everything to Sony or MS then we are just waiting for one company to get tired of investing money in a generation.. Then the other will follow suit and pull an Electronic Arts to just do enough to make money.
As long as Nintendo is still in the game it is a threat. Make no mistake, Nintendo is making a LOT of money and will probably make even more. Perhaps Microsoft will get blown out of the water by the PS3 this round... Do you really want Sony to own the gaming industry? Or would you rather see Nintendo rise up and make a system that is a real rival to the Playstation4?
You have to think about these things... HECK, I'd be happy to see Sega get back into it too, but they have to be smart if they ever want to get back into the console battle again.
Nintendo is floundering so far. I dont see them making a big profit on this years console wars. Especially with all their banter about how Hi-Def is nothing to fully utilize (WTF were they thinking)
I can care less if Nintendo bites the dust, just give the game to us!
Sony wont take the entire market especially with the pressure from M$ this round. I see it as being fairly equal if not more m$ this generation.

They're floundering? What are you talking about? I'm not really a Nintendo fan at all, so this isn't a biased lie. Nintendo is EXTREMELY profitable. They make more than Sony if I'm not mistaken in fact. They won't be biting the dust any time soon, and while I don't buy many of their products it's still good to have them in the market to keep things competetive. Remeber when it was just Nintendo in the market basically and how bloated prices could be? Just something to think about.

Either way, i think that Nintendo is going to end up with a lot of money in the end. Despite how bad people say they are they have always been very profitable. I myself being a Nintendo fan from the beginning will buy the revolution when it comes out and will continue to buy as new material comes out.

If Nintendo did stop making consoles, Im curious to know who they would make games for. They might make them for both, but sony and nintendo's relationship isnt all that great since the playstation thingy where sony designed the console for them. I don't think they like MS either, I can't remember why.

I would say that they would probably make games for both consoles. It just makes the most sense, since you obviously would make more money selling games on two consoles rather than just one console.
Nintendo isnt dying anytime soon. The chances of Nintendo dying is about the same as Sega making a new console. It all exists strictly in the realm of theory.

maybe Nintendo and Sega should team up  . It might turn out good, have some sonic vs. Mario game or something. Have them teamup and build a console together or something. I love the dreamcast, I wish I still had one.

Alright now we're talking. It could be revenge of the beaten, or suppressed. That would be funny, it takes 3 console makers together just to compete with Sony and Microsoft.

U have hit the bird with a stone.
If nintendo does not come out and release addition information on their console's power and potential and give us some game demos to look at, i am afraid that it is not going to look good for nintendo. This information has to be released as soon as possible before any of the next gen consoles come out . It is crucial for nintendo to do this, or all the attention will be on MS xbox 360 and Sony's PS3.
