Does anyone on these forums know how to delete Internet Explorer? If you could help me I would be very grateful. The reason I want to delete my Internet Explorer is because I keep getting pop-ups from it and I never get pop-ups on Firefox.
Dont believe you can delete it

I know there is a way, but I was just wondering what the easiest way would be.
Doesn't it run off of iexplore.exe? Btw don't delete that or your whole computer will be f'ed up

Is there a way to lock Internet Explorer or disable it, I hate these pop-ups.
IE is embeded into the OS so you can't just delete it or uninstall it, however you can stop using it, if you're using firefox and still getting pop-ups in IE windows then you got yourself a malware, find some programm to remove them.
P.S. I have encountered a while ago a method for removing IE (allthough i don't believe this was a complete removal) but it was very complicated and hardly worthing the effort IMO.
Have you tried reinstalling IE6 first? try that and see if it works, btw I believe the IE7 beta is also coming out soon if you can wait for it...
Also do you have anti virus scanner? anti spyware? run both and see if they find anything

I have an Nortons anti-virus, but when ever I scan it will find a lot of adware but when I try to delete it a lot of the deleting fails.
Go to nortons website there should be details on how to remove manually each of the things that was found
There is a rumour that norton some times actually deletes viruses and malware in general, i have yet to encounter such occassion :D trying to remove malware with norton is like trying to kill ants with a tenis racket, try out spybot and/or ad-aware they do not detect viruses, but they will remove spyware/adware/malware in general.
click start button => settings => configuration panel => add/remove software
Heres the tricky part on your left there are 4 buttons push the 2nd button. The rest is self explanatory.
And i should add that if you dont find any virii with anything, then it means your computer isnt secured down well enough and i would suggest getting a better firewall.
Most firewalls should be able to block this kind of thing from happening.
The thing being a computer connecting to yours and running apps.
If it isnt this however, then hell knows whats going on with your computer lol.
Must be posessed or something...
If you are looking for all time all round protection: spybot+ccleaner+http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-51-en--BitDefender-Client-Professional-Plus-v8.html
If it needs to be a bit cheaper the same except for the free bitdefender v7 wich only scans, but I hardly get virusses and not because I'm not protected enough well actually it is. Because I turned it off for system recourses, but i usually find out very fast and delete it.
Also i'm not sure if you are getting ie pop ups or pop ups from the messenger service from windows. I will provide an easy tool to shut down the messenger service for xp it only needs to be done once and the tool can be deleted. However it might be your office network needs it consult your IT specialist before doing this. If it's your home pc/ home network then you do NOT need it!

Explorer.exe is the default shell for windows xp. Has hardly anything to do with iexplorer.exe .

It isn't necassary to delete IE in any case. If you switch browsers, it is always a convenience to have the older one to view things the new one cannot.

You will have a freaked out computer if you delete Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer is built into the OS. To see this all you have to do is open up a file folder and look at the address bar. Then type a website address in their and watch as it turns back into a web browser instead of a file folder.
In XP you can even try to End Task it through the Task Manager, doing that will fry your comp and require and restart. So, it is indeed impossible.
Just get Firefox and be done with it. Its 100x better then IE anyway.

Why do I constantly have to repeat myself there is a difference between explorer.exe and Iexplorer.exe try closing the second one when you try to close the browser. explorer.exe is the shell (menu start button task bar etc) for windows.
Meaning you can close the internet explorer procces without frying your computer. You can however not close the explorer procces without closing your windows shell therefore you can't see anything anymore, but your cmputer didn't 'fry'
He already has firefox learn to read and understand what you read :!:

why do you want to get ride of it?
It's pretty easy actually as long as you have either Win2k or XP.
Go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel.
Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button.
Take the checkmark from Internet Explorer and then hit Apply and OK (or just OK)
It will probably ask you to restart your computer, if it does then click on 'yes'
Viola! You are now IE free.

You can't fry a computer by deleting 0's and 1's off the HDD. You can fry a computer by lighting, sparks, shocks to the motherboard. Just remember to say "It will mess up your OS" instead of saying it will be fryed.
As for IE I don't know if you can get away with deleting it or not.

Microsoft will hire assasins to come after you
Seriously , nothing will happen, the uninstall proccess that microsoft forced to include in recent versions of windows, just removes iexplore.exe and the links from the start menou, but iexplore.exe is just a frontend , you would still have IE in your OS.

lol, go ahead and try. Explorer.exe and IExplorer.exe are different DUH but IE is built into the OS and you will have a screwed Windows program when you delete it.
Personally, I've never even tried to delete it but I've had several virus's in the past that forced me to close down Iexplorer.exe with Windows still open. That alone screwed Windows XP to hell and forced a restart. If I'm not mistaken its not even possible to completely erase Iexplorer.

OK, I just enabled Internet Explorer again and have never been more happy to see pop-ups.
When i disable IEexplorer the way i explained nothing happens well except for a disabled ieexplorer. What are you talking about? have you tried shoot the messenger it might not be that but that also gives a load of pop ups so might as well disable that.
Dont delete IE, If you do you wont be able t use windows update ect. S your PC needs IE to do it. Just se firefox and cosse to make it the default browser and be done with it.
If you are stillg etting pop ups it sounds as if you have wither spyware or a trojan on your system.
Go here (Use IE) and scan your system. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
then run adaware and your AV program in safe mode. ( Iused to use norton but found it wouldnt detect/delet alot of stuff, So now i use AVG free, which seems 10 times better to me. )
that should delete the spyware ect,( It wont delete if the programs are running in the background, thats why you should boot in safe mode)
then reboot in normal mode and scan again, make sure its all gone. then Dont use IE for anything if you dont have to.
And if all else fails, you can turn of file protection, delete explorer and internet explorer and get a new shell to replace it lol.
Litestep seems good enough, but yeh i dont think it will get that bad.
Try majorgeeks.com for some things as well if you still get problems, thats how i locked down my system from any stupid attacks and pop-ups

The reason why I really needed my Internet Explorer back is because without it you can not use Windows Media Player.
You can use Winamp?
I think its 10x better than WMP, and i loved that, its alot faster at loading and doesnt have bad memory leaks that plague WMP...ew
And you can dock it around the screen, okay no start-bar tab, well as far as i know, but you can stick it over the bar, and make it hide and appear like the start bar.
And it can play way more file extensions than WMP which is always good :D

I already have 1696 songs on Mindows Media Player I don't want to have to export all my songs to something else.
That would take like 10seconds to 5 minutes depending on how fast your pc is and how fast you can find the right buttons.
Anyway the way you say that makes me believe you have all the artists and all that filled in in the mp3 id3 tags winamp is also able to read these and woudl also add them to your library, but wmp has a much better media library so just keep using that one.
How are the pop-ups right now?

The thing I suggest for you to do is go to microsoft.com and upgrade your windows to service pack 1 and then to 2. Affter you accomplished that download MS anti virus I its called microsoft antispiware. You can find here by clicking on Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en)
On top of that you will need to run this on the internet explorer and have a valid Windows.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 console has sold 1.01 million units of hardware in Japan since its launch in November 2006, reports Enterbrain, publishers behind Japan’s popular Famitsu Weekly magazine.
According to further information published by Reuters, it took Sony roughly four times longer to reach the sales milestone than rivals Nintendo, who’s latest home console, Wii, has sold a total of 2.9 million units since its launch there in December 2006. However, despite launching a year before PS3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is still trailing behind Sony’s console in Japan with 420,700 consoles sold.
As it stands, PlayStation 3’s global sales put it in third place in the next-generation console market; despite this, the company has stated that it is confident the system will become market leader by March 2008.
