Metroid Prime was one of my most favorite game ever. I actually prefer it to halo to be honest. Ah whatever just read.

A rare interview with Nintendo's second-party cohorts Retro Studios has shed some light on Metroid Prime 3, which is bound for release on the next-gen Revolution format sometime next year by current estimates.

The interview, aired official Metroid site Luminoth Temple, talks of bringing closure to the story, retaining the game's first-person viewpoint and taking full advantage of the new system.

"The plot of Prime 3 is about closure, told against the backdrop of an epic struggle," the Retro Studios spokesperson said. Apparently the planet Phazon will play a key role again, and heroine Samus Aran willf ind herself coming up against Metroid enemies and new threats as well.

"We plan on taking advantage of a number of new features in the Revolution, including the controller," Retro said. Wow, a game that uses a control pad! The point, of course, is that the fabled Revolution pad is said to be quite interesting and different to what we've experienced before. Details on what it actually does have yet to be revealed.

On the audio/visual side of things, apparently we'll see "even more" of the "drastic improvements", visually, that we witnessed moving from Metroid Prime 1 to 2. "Our engineers are a very talented and dedicated bunch, and they're constantly looking for ways to make our games run smoother with more details."

Finally, Retro spoke of composer Kenji Yamamoto, who will reprise his role creating the game's soundtrack. "We hope to take the music into some new directions for this title, and there's no doubt Mr. Yamamoto is going to relish the challenge," Retro said.

Nintendo previously confirmed the existence of Metroid Prime 3 with a very short and unrevealing teaser trailer at its pre-E3 press conference, but this is the first time any solid details have emerged.

Now that they are showing some of the next gen games they will be using it seems less people will buy the revolution just for downloading old games. Metroid 3, Zelda Revolution and the new FF are a good launch of games and just might keep nintendo on the market.

So it seems all three systems have their own main first person shooter.

MS - Halo
Sony - Killzone
Nintendo - Metroid Prime

That is something I have to laugh about considering the only one of the games I like is Metroid Prime.

Killzone seemed boring, gameplay wise it was all the same.

Halo aside from the AI I see nothing special about this game.

Metroid Prime has pretty much one gun that can change into 4 different types of guns and has a rocket launcher. You can change into a morphball that has speed burst, drops bombs, and some more features. The graphics aren't that bad, although I wouldn't care if they sucked either.

I love the metroid prime series and IMO its the best FPS and probably side-scroller around.

I hope they let you use the right analog if they have one to look around freely this time all FPS should utilize both thumb sticks

Conspicuous by it’s absence at the upcoming Leipzig Games Convention later this month is Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 outing, Assassin’s Creed, with the company instead choosing to focus on the upcoming Haze to represent its efforts on Sony’s next-generation console.

Ubisoft’s full line-up was revealed today in a press release, and is as follows:

-Haze (PlayStation3)
-Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes (PSP)
-Naruto: Small channel of has Ninja (Xbox 360)
-Blazing Angels 2: Secrecy Missions of WW2 (Xbox 360)

No reason was hinted as to why the firm decided to exclude the title from it’s line-up, though it’s conceivable that the games somewhat flawed showing at this year’s E3 convention may have prompted the company to quietly pull the game off for some last minute tweaking. Assassin's Creed is currently slated for a release in North America this November.

The Leipzig Games Convention is due to take place from August 23 – 28; expect full coverage of the event here at PSU.
