View Full Version : Killzone 2 not on PS3
Whilst nothing is official at this stage, it appears Dutch developer Guerrilla are already working on a sequel to the Sony PS2 exclusive shooter Killzone, despite the original not being due until the final quarter of this year. Confidence is clearly high then that the supposed 'Halo-beater' will do just that, and Sony must be impressed thus far if numero two has already been agreed.
According to a report on IGN then, not only was a Killzone 2 design brief spotted in the developers offices, but one employee is even rumoured to have told the publication's reporter that the sequel would not be coming for the PS3 - suggesting something in the not too distant future could be on the cards. Indeed, the breadth of the first instalment apparently calls for sequels - and it might be that Sony plan to capitalise on the series' expected popularity sooner rather than later.

What was to stop people thinking Killzone was going to be on PS3. Up until now there wasnt any information to suggest that it wouldnt be on the Next gen console so peolle had a right to suspect there would be a next generation sequel. IGN.COM asked Guirella (im not sure about the spelling) whether it would be on PS2 or PSP and got no answer from them.
August 16, 2004 - Killzone is the highly anticipated PlayStation 2 first-person shooter from Guerilla Games. It's a title many are hoping will be the Halo-killer we've all been longing for. We'll not know whether it achieves such high standing until the final rolls around this fall. Regardless, Sony has apparently already commissioned Guerilla to begin development on a follow-up, now tentatively titled Killzone 2.
When asked about the validity of this news, developers within Guerilla assured us that sequels were indeed planned (as the scope of the universe demanded from inception), but nothing official has yet been announced. Though the game is still not official, we managed to glimpse the cover of a design document, simply titled Killzone 2, which implies the project may be further along than the conceptual stage. Obviously, this got our attention.
We dug a little further and found it exceedingly difficult to uncover any real details, but when asked whether or not Killzone 2 would be a PlayStation 3 title, the developers at Guerilla very candidly said "No." Now the real question remains... Will Killzone 2 be on PlayStation 2 or PSP? No definitive answer was provided when we posed this question to company representatives.
Regardless of where it inevitably shows up, expect Killzone 2 to generate just as much hype as its predecessor, which we'll bring you more details on in the coming months.
Yea, with the life of the PS2 begining to wind down it was only logical to assume that Killzone 2 could end up on the PS3. I for one didnt think Sony would be so quick to rush a sequel out the door.
Yea as soon as I heard that there is going to be a Killzone 2 I immediately assumed it would be on PS3, but apparently this isn't the case. Why the heck Guerrilla would want to make KZ2 on PS2 I don't know. By the time it will be out, PS3 will be just around the corner. It would make much more sense to buy the PS3 version, because I personally won't be wasting my money on PS2 titles when PS3 is close to launch and I'm sure other people will do the same.
Actually, My Hypothesis is *educated guess* that Killzone will be released 2004, and they probably want it to last maybe half a year then KZ2 comes out for the PS2, and then Next Gen will come alone...where over alot of people will still be playing KZ2 since PS3 is pricey...
Halo 3 for Xbox2 is coming for the X2, then they can make KZ3 same time and differences, as the same...
Though I'd suspect Sony want to catch up to Halo 3 in the number quarters... :?

killzone is coming out October over here and November in the US
killzone 2 will follow on same time next year to ride killzone's possible success and make the franchise more popular and to be 1 of the last big ps2 games and also it will go well with the PS3's backwards compatibility pretty well
then Killzone 3 on the PS3 which might come out around the same time as HALO 3 if you catch my drift

yea i think that is what Sony are going for which would be a very smart move as Halo 3 will likely be a big console mover and potentially something that could make a big difference in the next console war

I would argue that Sony wants to franchise a FPS period. Sony is now a multiplatform company. They have the Console and Portable market to worry about. If they can leverage their franchises for both systems, all the better.
On the same token I would argue (in part as an owner of Sony) that if they do not leverage their franchises across both systems then they are not doing the job their shareholders pay them to do.
Now, to understand why I believe the Sequel may be PSP bound is due to how codenames tend to work in the Software universe. They could be calling it Killzone2 internally right now and have it PSP bound. At a later date they may decide to make it a spinoff series on the PSP, say Killzone : Extreme mobility and keep the base Killzone on the Console Playstation brand.
So in a sense you are right.

Don't worry, even though this artical was from 3 years ago it's right there won't be a Killzone 2 on the PS3 because killzone 2 was actually Killzone: Liberation for the PSP. The Killzone your thinking about is actually Killzone 3.

About the Killzone 2, yes, it is not PS3, it is on PSP and is called Killzone: Liberation.
I am guessing that the one that resurrected this old thread(among with other old threads) will soon be banned.
