M$ windows XP service pack 2 stops a whole #### load of programs from working properly

wow they really have screwed up this time
I find this quite funny, that could end up being almost every app and game on someones computer...
Hmmm seeing this makes me not want to download service pack 2 especialy since alot of the games that dont work i own, they will probably have patches for the games to work with it though so we will have to wait and see so good job microsoft cause one screw up after another

I find this quite funny, that could end up being almost every app and game on someones computer...
well actually, i did sort of notice a large portion of my apps on that list lol
as for the games it will just affect them on online play, ie it will stop them working online. and warcraft 3 is so damn popular online as well
For games though they can just realease patches through web sites or through the game if possible its just my apps that i am worried about

they are going down im sure in about 5 years there will be another company taking it's place and doing a better job and will be known worldwide aswell

They screwed up their service packs. Those twits. 3/4 computers show a blue screen on startup after installing a service pack. *dolts*
I have never had a problem with the service packs and since i got norton go back which is probably the best tool you could have for windows i dont have many crashing problems my main problems are glitches which i am to lazy to fix
Bah, don't ya'll get it?! 'NEW COMPUTERS' *I.E Impaired Computer People* Do 'not' know how to turn off those things...
my little cousin has his own computer and he doesn't shut down -_-*** he just pulls out the electricity
so it's good windows is dying...

Yea I mean M$ don't have thousands of staff working on their next operating system all the time, whilst being industry veterans with at least 30 years of experience in the industry or anything. :wink:
The only people who can rival M$ are Apple and Apple have already made a more user friendly operating system than Microsoft have - it's just a shame it doesn’t have any where near the amount of third party software support that windows has (e.g. far less software compatibility).

I will tell you what is a shame, its a shame that M$ have a monopoly on the market as each windows has been the worst current OS on the market at that time. the Windows code is a complete mess which has caused a lot of problems which is why they are sinking such extraordinary amounts of money into longhorn
I believe any company that sinks enough money into a OS project could come up with a far better OS then any windows, it wont be successful but it will be better

Hello, and welcome to the first edition of PlayStation Preparation. Hopefully, this neat little feature will continue over the next few months, and right into the launch of the beloved juggernaut we all know as the PlayStation3. In this little column, I’ll be covering everything that goes along with gaming. This includes but is not limited to: furniture, televisions, sound equipment, and so much more. So sit back, and enjoy the show. I’ll try to keep the Game Life references to a minimum.
You’ve got to own a good television to truly bask in the PS3 high def goodness. Sadly, buying said good television is not a walk in the park. There are rules. There are standards. There are prices. I’ve made a few faulty purchases in my day, one of which was a gargantuan CRT display that weighed more than me, and I’m not exactly scrawny. Childhood obesity aside, if you make informed decisions, HDTVs can kick some serious ass. Before you tear down the hill to Best Buy, we should go over some options…
Packin’ the Plasma.
Plasma displays are still a bit of a mystery to some people. I’m a little biased, because I’ve personally had the best experience with them. They defiantly have the best clarity of any display on the market. The downside? They usually cost quite the chunk of change, and tend to be tricky pieces of equipment, especially in their early days of use. Anyone that has any experience with a plasma display already knows what I’m talking about. Screen burn, the plasma owner’s burden. I really only experienced these on my first few days of use. After playing Kingdom Hearts for only two hours, I could easily see the health bar. The problem is individual pixels operate at fairly high temperatures, especially when fresh. After you in, they won’t serve a problem at all. Even then, the white wash capability renders the problem nearly nonexistent.
If you’ve decided to go plasma, then this Pioneer PUREBLACK display is completely awesome, and has served me well. With HDMI plugs, plenty of component cable stuff, and a reasonable price at about $2600 USD.
Pros
● Picture clarity is AWESOME. The best I’ve seen and I’ve been around the block once or twice.
● The Pioneer PUREBLACK display has HDMI support out of the box. Treat the PS3 like it should be treated.
● I’ve been convinced the display was rigged to a 5.1 sound system on several occasions. The sound system is amazing.
Cons
● Screen burns tend to be quite drastic on the first day. Don’t be surprised if they pop up once and again afterwards.
● The price be a shot to the cookies for some.
CRT, with a capital Colossus.
CRTs are a mixed bad. On one hand you’ve got a fairly priced and usually reliable TV. On the hand you’ve got a fat, ugly, and cumbersome TV that doesn’t display quite as well as a plasma screen would. If you want a large TV, then I wouldn’t recommend a CRT. If you are, for instance, in the market for a computer monitor sized TV, then a CRT would be a cheap solution. CRTs tend to only support S-Video, and Component cables, so HDMI is out of the question. If you’re honestly considering buying a CRT TV, do not buy a Phillips. These are terrible televisions, and are notorious for bugs from the assembly line. A good CRT you ask? Sony actually makes a good CRT to my knowledge, that being their WEGA models. A good 24” WEGA will cost you around $300.00. A great alternative purpose would be a Samsung, as these are pretty reliable, and won’t break the bank either.
Pros
● They aren’t too heavily priced.
● For their price, they can be incredibly reliable TVs.
Cons
● They’re bigger then Angelina Jolie’s lips. They’re huuuuuge.
● The picture quality isn’t nearly as good as what is offered on the LCD and plasma sets.
LCD, a gamer’s nirvana.
There’s quite an amount of positives for Liquid Crystal displays. First off, they can be wall mounted, unlike the bulky CRTs. LCDs differ from CRTs, but look similar to plasma displays. Don’t be mistaken though; they function quite differently. LCDs and plasma displays are similar in that they are both easily wall mountable, and both usually support HD. LCDs are cheaper then plasma displays though, and never screen burn. Certain LCDs have a slightly lower picture quality then plasma displays. Samsung makes an amazing LCD set. Watch any footage from the E3 show floor, and the monitor playing the footage is probably a Samsung LCD.
Pros
● For the quality offered, you can’t beat the price.
● Considerably smaller, and better, than CRT displays.
Cons
● Generally has lower picture quality then plasma displays, but Samsung LCDs rival most plasmas from my experience.

There's some really good stuff there. Fantastic article.
Could I suggest you read through it yourself first? It's probably a good idea to get into the habit of checking for your own mistakes.
One thing i noticed is sometimes it gets too informal. It's fine to be light hearted in such an article, but saying things like "kicks ass" just doesn't sound too professional.
Also, I didn't understand what this meant: "The price be a shot to the cookies for some." - maybe I'm not hip to it lol.
But in terms of content, it's a really great article and I look forward to the next part. If you could look through it and make a couple of changes where you think it was maybe over-zealous, that'd be great :)

I agree with Bhavin. There are some notible mistakes that can be fixed with an easy look over by yourself.
For example, "CRTs are a mixed bad." Should be "bag" no?
I also agree with Bhavin in the sense that you should make the editorial sound a bit more professional.
However, it's very enjoyable. I like how Bhavin delves into the technicalities of the HDTVs and Ian sums up, offers examples, and generalizes the types of HDTVs.
My hat's off to the both of you.
Also, here's some constructive critisism Ian.
- Devote, perhaps, 1-2 sentences in the Plasma section on how to reduce the chances, or preventing, screen burn.
- Bold the LCD title section.
- Give a specific example of a Samsung LCD (you did it for both the Plasma and CRT sections)
- Offer a price for the LCD example, or a price range.
