Toy Story 3 In 3D.

10/10

Magical. Amazing. Perfect.

If you see this, go see it in 3D. This is 3D done the right way, where implementing 3D has not led to a degradation in the quality of the story or animation.

Cure: 9/10

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's crime thriller starts out slow, but I have to admit, the guy is talented in scaring the audience in a more subtle way provided you pay attention to everything that's going on. Unlike a lot of movies that attempt to scare you, Cure is more of a psychological thriller. I personally thought the ending was brilliant. I would highly recommend you guys pick up this movie and watch it.

The Evil Dead: 8.5/10

Although Sam Raimi didn't have a very big budget for the movie (you can tell, trust me), he did a great job with what he had to work with. In fact, the end result is really charming. Taking the directing, acting, cheesy moments, make-up and prop work -- all of that into account, it feels like a real horror classic. Some scenes were done really well and left me with a big grin on my face (for example, when Bruce Campbell's character stuck his hand in the mirror). This is another movie I would highly recommend you guys pick up and watch.

Yeah, I DID like the concept, was just getting a little confused by the end though about how all the big-wigs were getting taken down. Other than that, can't fault it... might bump it up to 9/10.

I kind of expected more action from this film, it doesn't wow you in anyway. The action sequences used are entertaining enough though, mainly because of who the characters are and what they do. Seeing Evans do some of the things seemed odd though, I didn't expect him to have much of an action background for his geek/tech character.

LMAO I love that part of the movie xD well anyways...

The Runaways - 8/10

The film does a great job showing the band performing. Stewart and Fanning clearly worked hard to be believable as rockers, and it paid off. You see the progression of both characters from neophytes to seasoned performers, and it works. Another aspect is the struggle by the Runaways to be taken seriously. There were very few hard-rocking ladies in 1976, so they faced a lot of skepticism. The film shows this very well.

Last few films I've seen:

The Fall: I recently said in the Inception thread that I'm not a big fan of art for art's sake, but DAMN this movie just won me over. The scenery is wonderful and the relationship between the two main characters is beyond cute. I think what truly won me over was how it depicted the nature of story telling - especially when a little girl interrupts your story to fill it with her own details. Having a niece, I related to this a lot, and I loved everything from the humor to the underlying sad story to the eccentric performances to... ****, I loved everything. I sound like a puss, but hey, this is the first movie in a long time that I watched more than three times in one week: 9.5/10

Inception: I liked the idea, liked some of the scenes, liked the performances, but wasn't sold on the direction and conclusion; I felt the movie presented itself as something more intelligent than it actually was, and while there were moments that were truly memorable, I felt the movie was more hype than delivery; still, a worthy film to check out: 8/10

Departures: A foreign film about a guy who, down on his luck, heads home and gets a job in which he helps to prepare souls for departure into the next world. Oh, and the film is all about discovery, self-identity, so on and so forth; I saw lots of positives reviews and I believe it won an award for best foreign film; but in the end, I thought the movie was just okay. Not bad, not great, just sort of... there. 7/10

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Saw this in the library and wanted to re-live my childhood for a day. Unfortunately, this was made impossible by the fact that Power Rangers just aren't as cool as they were when I was a little kid. A sad truth, but one I must deal with; I refused, however, to deal with the constant punch lines that every single ****ing power ranger kept spitting out. 4/10 (movie gets a 4 for the super dope Power Ranger costumes)

If you ever read the comic book, you'd know the film didn't do it any justice whatsoever. Kick-A** isn't supposed to be uplifiting or feel good - the entire point is that it's supposed to be dark, satarical and sarcastic, the complete opposite of what Spiderman was.

If they do a sequel, and I doubt they will, they need to stick to what the comic book was.

Just finished the graphic novel and to be fair, it was a little excessive. Maybe I'm bias because I saw the movie first, but the comic was just waaay over the top it was almost stupid in that sense. I can see some things in the movie were changed, but the comic it's self tries too hard.

Hello, everyone. Dropping in today to review 2 good movies and 2 bad movies. That's... 4 movies. :snicker

Pulp Fiction 9/10

Great writing, all-around enjoyable performances by the cast, cinematography is solid, and the music was charming. My only complaint is that the movie is just a little too long. Other than that, I really enjoyed the movie.

Cloverfield 8/10

This has got to be my 5th time watching the movie. The writing and performances are nothing to write home about. It would have been better if we saw more of the monster, though. But nevertheless, it's an enjoyable thrill-ride with some impressive special effects.

Vacancy 4/10

Do yourself a favor and watch Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho instead. Vacancy runs out of ideas, the actors are annoying, and it's filled with some of the most predictable horror movie cliche's. By the time the movie ends, you're left wondering what the hell the director was thinking.

Babel 5/10

Probably the most pretentious movie I've ever seen. Okay, so the director explored different cultures throughout the movie, but the end result is this: fools that use guns irresponsibly are bad. By the time you realize that, you don't care about the overall plot, you just want the movie to end, lol. It also suffers from a couple pointless scenes.

For what it is... it's mighty good at it. Don't see what the big whoopla was about it. Then again I have little to no reference to the original series.

Chances are most people your age won't either, there has never been anyting like it since thats designed for children at least, it must have had a huge budget back in its day with a ll the guns helicopters, planes, explosions, fast cars and the geniuses that built the contraptions.

Is the film brilliant and oscar worthy - NO but it certainly is entertaining and worth the watch :)
Liam Neeson as Hannibal was a bad choice.

I loved Daniel Craig's performance in Casino Royale. But I've read a lot of mixed reviews for Quantum of Solace, so I ended up not seeing it. I would like to see him in another Bond film, though.
Casino Royale is the best out of the two Craig-era Bond films, and QoS doesn't match up to it, whatsoever, but it's still an enjoyable film. I'd go watch it, dude, just don't don't be prepared for the best Bond film ever.

Twilight - 8/10

Watched it again last night on Sky HD+ and it's just as good now as it was when originally released. The soundtrack is awesome, Kristen Stewart is hot as ever and Edward is rocking as per usual. The only thing that let it down is the lack of a budget. It's got indie written all over it.

Inception - 9/10

Great movie and as far as far as I can remember the most intense and best blockbuster in years. I Need a second viewing though. I have a feeling that Nolan's gonna release a DC, but then again I can't see it happen.

V for Vendetta - 8/10

The subject matter seems questionable but it didn't really bother me, although that goddamn silly mask made me so ****ing aggressive. I constanly wanted to beat him that freaking smile out of his face. Otherwise, it's a good movie though.

One Hour Photo - 6.5/10

A great performance by Robin Williams in a fine movie about a deranged person.

The Final Cut - 5/10

The concept is flawed, just like the movie but it's ok for one watch.

Children of Men - 7.5/10

The cinematography is OUTSTANDING, much better than the actual movie which is nonetheless still fine.

Donnie Darko - 8/10

To me it's potential is never fully explored and there are a few questionable and spastic scenes but this movie totally stays in your head. Gonna check out the DC soon

This is my second time seeing Inception now. A brilliant movie with smart writing, wonderful cinematography, great cast, and one very impressive music score. My only complaint is that Nolan seemed to intentionally wrap up the movie with an ambiguous ending, which I feel the movie could have done without, but I guess it was fitting given the movie's theme. Still, I just love this movie so much, and I loved seeing Leonardo DiCaprio on the silver screen again.

300 - 7.5/10 - Some satisfying slow-mo sequences aligned with some good cinematography adapted from the graphic novel, but the best part is the action of course. Bad part is the slow-mo happens like every 5 minutes and of course dull plot/dialogue.

Nice. I need to buy (actually RE-buy) this on BD. FFC apparently supervised the transfer and the audio remastering is supposed to be stellar too.

Yeah, one of the rare occasions where the sequel is better. We can't even flip it on for a few minutes if it's running, otherwise we're done and have to watch the whole thing. There was an interesting edit of this running a few months ago, where they chronologically integrated 1 and 2 (so like the opening of 2 in Sicily was the opening of the whole 4+ hour movie). While I prefer the original 1 then 2 cut, it's a pretty interesting changeup.

It apparently took 50 years for it to recover its cost... or at least that's what I heard. Obviously it wasn't in theaters that whole time, but goes to show how well it did on home video too.

As Cameron put it, "It's a commercial flop, but its respected for its artistry". It's a movie that's very representative/symbolic of its subject matter since it has minimal dialogue.

Most of my classmates and I don't watch it for the "story" but rather than the shot design and production side of it. Kubrick in all his films (some more than others) is a MASTER at using space in his shots using his sets or locations. He's also a master at suspense and in a manner that I personally love because its not based on cheap thrills. It's all about giving a slow build up that reaches your core and has a lasting impression than a quick jump-out-of-your-seat moment.

Each to their own, I guess. I feel they just put it in for the sake of having a pair of boobs on show at least once in the film. I know Watchmen is just one of those 'all action, no story' kind of films, and I respect that, but chucking a sex scene just to please the masses when it made no sense just seemed so pointless. Oh, well, I suppose it wasn't supposed to make sense, haha.

Unfortunately, I don't own the Blu-Ray so I had to make do with watching it in HD on Sky+ but that's better than nothing, and the picture was still crystal clear. Anyway, it doesn't matter if you watch it in high-def or not, it's an awesome film!

Great performances and apart from a few silly and ridiculous things, the main twist was well done.

Also, I gave 9 a rent. Visuals were good, but the narrative wasn't anything special (even cheesy at times, i.e. 'sometimes one must be sacrificed'). The irony is that for a film that looked to try and set itself apart from the norm -- it does have a darker look to it compared to most CGI films like Up (which was excellent, by the way) -- 9 just ended up being pretty average.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine -- 7.5/10

It was alright. Opening credits were cool, some of the fight scenes were good, and I liked the origin of Logan's mutant name. On the other hand, the writing could have used some work, some of the characters could have had larger roles (i.e. Cyclops), and the final battle wasn't as epic as I thought it'd be.

Dario Argento's Suspiria -- 8/10

Suspiria has what a lot of horror movies are lacking nowadays: atmosphere. I'd recommend watching it.

Yeah really. I saw it as two sides trying to use religion as their goals in life, one was "Do what God says" and one was "Twist the words to fit your own agenda". The antagonists even said they were going to do this in one scene. And Eli's goal in life is what the films based on.

I didn't think it glorified religion that much because of all the pain and suffering that book caused. Eli managed to reach his goal in life through hard work and determination, and also who would of liked an ending where the antagonist shafts the towns with his twisted interpritations.

Thats just my point of view though.

Anyway, Starship Troopers 6.5/10.
.5 for story, 6 for cheesy sci-fi-ness.

You know this film had a surprising amount of emotion in it, going off the 80's film it really did have alot to kinda live upto. I'd have to say the characters were enjoyable. Jackie Chan once again nails his role in this film. The direction of this film is where it shines better than the original, fighting films have come along way.

I was a little dissapointed with the cinema experience tho, it just wasn't as impressive as it used to be. Now with HD TV's and Blu-Ray anyone can probably create a better experience in your home.

Well the whole movie is about the progression of mankind and how the Monolith sparks and or insinuates certain breakthroughs. You have the apes which after discovering the monolith begin to show signs off higher intelligence, discovering the idea of the "tool" and what it could do for them. Then you fast forward many years and see that mankind has developed his tools to such an extent that they become his undoing- Hal 9000. Then he takes a journey upon encountering the Monolith through different times and worlds and his understanding of life is greatly enhanced. He reaches the fourth dimension and has to face death. The monolith appears again and then he is reborn into a newer being. Having gained all that knowledge its safe to assume this being would be smarter than man and it's ability to survive in space shows its stronger.

The plot is clearly ridiculous, and does get out of hand, but that is expected in a movie like this. Where comedy is the goal, this move really does not disappoint.

Crash - 9/10 - Script and editing are incredible. Minus some parts that that don't come off as remarkable as the rest its the first movie to come close to Memento for me.

I don't particular love the part where the little girl gets shot but she's not hurt. Little too supernatural compared to the rest of the film. There's other segments that aren't as great too, but for other reasons.
I'm interested to see if the Director's Cut helps the film.

The Matrix - 8.5/10 - Such an interesting concept and a pretty good script. I gotta say that after watching the police station lobby scene again 300 just got knocked down a level. Use of slo-mo to show the action clearly with a satisfying result overall made this movie as an action movie very good.
My only gripe is the "kiss of life" part at the end. After creating a solid system for the world in this movie it feels out of place. If they're trying to setup him being an anomaly I think there could've been a smarter way.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 8/10 - The script is a little dull, but the comedy made up the difference in aces and spades. My best friend and I were laughing so hard at various parts, and even in-between those parts is a constant stream of little jokes. Of course the fun is in the comic book and video game stylization throughout. Edgar did a good job of keeping it fun and interesting without over doing it.

Btw, 8-bit Universal Pictures intro FTW! It's like what Where the Wild Things Are did for its intro with Warner Bros and Village Roadshow as well.

Hollywood Reported said 80-90 but Universal said it's closer to 60. Don't know where Hollywood is getting their numbers from, but the film had a significant marketing push in this last three weeks. Fourth place weekend opening is not good for Edgar Wright. He's a good director and should have the opportunity to do more work like this. He needs a movie star... Michael Cera isn't it. Hope it can crack the top 3.

I remember when my dad, my stepmom, and I were watching it when it came out on home video and at the end when the part come up my dad said "See, it's a love story". Now he was joking, but I think they were actually trying to get some sort of love story out of the overall story and its a bad attempt to attractive the female audience that doesn't care for the other 99% of the film.

Your probably right... they could've have possibly just had Neo get up on his own. Then they'd need to write a different tie-in for Trinity.
Love does not have a place in a film such as The Matrix. They should've focued solely on making sure the plot made sense rather than inject a dose of reality and human emotion in to it, in an attempt to draw in the female audience. To be quite frank, the whole scene with the 'kiss of life' was entirely cringeworthy and should've been scrapped. A much better (far more serious this time) alternative would've been to see Neo's body inside fighting some sort of virus as he was dying. His 'cells' would eventually begin to overpower the impending death and he gets up on his own and proceeds to kill the Agent. That would've been far more suitable for the film and would've give Neo a far better image as 'The One'.

As for Trinity, I didn't really see the point in her at all. They should've killed her off in the first film. Maybe when the Agents kidnap Morpheus, they could've killed Trinity to lure him out. Two birds, one stone, etc.

I don't think it should be his cells since we've learned all about the place being a computer program and none of that is real. Instead let the coding change and do something drastic especially sense he sees the coding of the Matrix after he transforms into "the one".

As for Trinity, I didn't really see the point in her at all. They should've killed her off in the first film. Maybe when the Agents kidnap Morpheus, they could've killed Trinity to lure him out. Two birds, one stone, etc.True, once you take out the "kiss of life" scene then her role becomes anti-climatic. Ergo, she needs to have importance in the end since they have her as an important figure throughout the film.

No it isn't. 1-10 million is low budget. 60 sure as hell is not. Hollywood isn't constantly pushing out 100+ million dollar movies. Plus if Hollywood Reporter is to be believed SP was like 80-90 not including marketing. I also hear Cera got a 6-7 million dollar pay day.
