I absolutely LOATHED Bridge to Terabithia. It was so cheesy and stupid. I found myself either shaking my head or laughing during all of the scenes where I was supposed to cry. So fucking terrible.
Didn't say the movie was good. Just that part was sad as hell. I'm sure you know which part I speak of. If you laughed at that you have some issues.
I remember quite liking that film. But definitely remember not getting as 'emotional' as the film wanted me to be.
I thought Battle: Los Angeles was okay. It was really dumb, but so fucking funny.
I enjoyed the film more the second time I watched it. As I knew not to expect too much, unlike my first viewing. That speech he makes about every one he's lost being seared in his brain was so by the numbers - as was the whole film tbh.
The Bourne Ultimatum - 8/10
Think I scored them all at 8. They're all good.
I Am Number Four (D.J. Caruso, 2011) 2 out of 4 stars
This film is your typical high school bullshit with an alien subplot, although the marketing for the film would have you believe the opposite. Most of the film involves Alex Pettyfer pathetically attempting to portray the one-dimensional John Smith as he deals with high school as an alien in disguise. Most of the acting is shoddy, although I liked Timothy Olyphant, as I always do. He just seems to exude coolness and while he's not the best actor around, he's generally a pleasure to watch. Surprisingly, the climax of the film is quite exciting and well-shot and the CGI isn't half-bad, but those two positives don't change the fact that this film is basically Superman meets Degrassi.

My favorite lines are:
"We already ate breakfast."
and
"I can help. I'm a veterinarian."

I haven't watched I am Number 4. But I did read the books, the first one and the newest one.
The books are amazing, and it sounds like always the book is better than the movie.
In fact, I just finished a written part of a project on I Am Number, 4 I wrote 9 paragraphs which was at least five if not six pages.
I'm kind of interested in the books because the overall story arc seemed cool.

It helped that I found Dianna Agron to be fairly hot. Then it turns into a love-triangle later (I suppose I'm a little bit of a sucker for that tension). I can tell the book must have some mildly original concepts that the movie portrayed.
Anyway, thought it was a vaguely decent movie. Sure as hell take this over Jumper.

I could feel Anakin turning as I was reading... my expectations were high when I went to see the movie. Then Hayden showed up on screen and ripped out it's soul.
However, the one cool part I still remember was the sword/saber battle between Obi-wan and Anakin inside the complex. Two Jedi Masters duking it out for supremacy... this whirlwind of lightsabers. That's it though.
Phantom Menace had some cool and epic scenes. The podracing for one and the Jedi/Sith battle at the end. The only movie of the trilogy I can watch whole scenes and not want to turn it off.
It was kinda cool to see the war in Attack of the Clones. However, the traditional animated TV show is better for that.

It saddens me to think about how great it could have been it the movies would have been more thought out and cast better. They were ok the first time you watch them because you are saying to yourself the whole time. "Fuck Yeah!!! Star Wars!!" It definitely wears of after that for sure. I would have to say that the 3rd was probably my favorite but not like it was really good. Lucas need to select another time frame and make good on what he thought was a good idea. I know there are tons of Star Wars stories out there that he could select a good setting. Also not trying to make the damn movies so family friendly like the first 2 movies in the prequel trilogy were.

Co-sign. I liked Darth Maul a lot in episode 1, but I felt he had been killed off too easily, I would have made him the active villain till episode 3. In episode 3 he get very sloppy at his sith job, defies Lord Sidious and then gets betrayed by Lord Sidious when Anakin is ordered to kill him to take his place. I dunno, that's my version of it.

Yeah, I stopped watching after season 3. I mean how many missions can you have before you get to Revenge of the Sith? Lucas is milking the shit out of the Clone Wars. I'm more excited for his live action star wars tv show, but I heard that has production problems. What I've always wanted to see is more Star Wars movies. I want three new movies, maybe based off the old republic comics with Darth Bane or Darth Raven. There is so much Star Wars material worth a few dozen movies all spanned out to be made across decades from now because technology evolves.

Restrepo - 8.5/10
A war documentary set in the Korengal Valley, nicknamed the most dangerous place on Earth. It's not particularly heavy on the action (not until the latter half anyway) but still pretty interesting to see what these soldiers go through when making the decision to serve their country. There are some humorous scenes as well:

EDIT:
The Lion King in 3D - Still my favorite animated feature. Dealing with adult themes of loss and death. Without getting into unnecessary technical jargon, the 3D worked here and there but for the characters you can tell they're forcing an effect from something that never was 3D. It just comes off weird.
A couple of other good war docs are Battle For Haditha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_for_Haditha_(film)) and This Is War (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGw1cCbFn9A).
The Company Men (John Wells, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
The movie is everything you would want in a story. It's scary, depressing, and sad, but also motivational, inspiring, and conveys a good message about many different things: swallowing your pride, prioritizing your life, and finding the line between what's desired and what's necessary. The film does a good job of portraying the demoralizing and slightly emasculating condition that unemployed men often go through, especially those who fell from much higher. Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper provide excellent work as supporting actors. Ben Affleck is okay in the lead role, but he's Ben Affleck, so I'll take it.
Parenthood (Ron Howard, 1989) 3 out of 4 stars
Take some great actors such as Steve Martin, Dianne Wiest, Mary Steenburgen, and Tom Hulce, and couple them with the annoyingly untalented Rick Moranis, and you've got a good comedy in which the good generally outweighs the bad. It's actually pretty funny, which I wasn't expecting from the guy behind A Beautiful Mind and Frost/Nixon. Good stuff.
Despicable Me (Pierre Coffin/Chris Renaud, 2010) 2½ out of 4 stars
I remember back when I saw this in theaters. I think it's the most recent film I've seen in 3D, which was a long way back. I really wanted to love this movie. The voice cast is full of great comedians like Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett, and more. The film really is not that great. It's kind of sweet and cute, I guess, but it doesn't hit on a level any higher than that of a simply cutesy kids movie. The film relies way too much on those little tater tot guys, who, admittedly, are kinda cute and kinda funny at times, although they do get old. I could see this working as a television show or a series of shorts, but as a feature length film it's only average. Megamind pulled the evil villain thing off in a much better way. It was way more clever and way funnier.

I like sci-fi in general so this movie was pretty enjoyable. A part of why I watched it was to prep for chronicles of riddick. I dont care much for any sort of gore but it was kept to a minimum so that wasnt too bad. Riddick sounds like a pretty good Halloween costume.

FP. dear lord, i hope not.
I think Michael Phillips summed it up nicely in 4 words: "Seriously: What the hell?"
Country Strong (Shana Feste, 2011) 2 out of 4 stars
There are so many things wrong with this movie. Where do I begin? The story is practically nonexistent. Gwyneth Paltrow, despite being very beautiful in this, gives an inconsistent performance. The sweet parts of her performance are sweet but she does a terrible job with the emotional scenes. The rest of the acting is okay, although Garrett Hedlund actually does a pretty good job. The characters develop overnight and they do so many out-of-character things it's ridiculous. It's a very weak story with a good performance by Garrett Hedlund and some great country music, which makes it bearable but not very good.
Bad Teacher (Jake Kasdan, 2011) 2½ out of 4 stars
I was expecting to hate this, but it wasn't half-bad. It's got some funny parts and Cameron Diaz does a good job, but most of the jokes become monotonous because they revolve around the bitchiness and self-centered attitude of the character. In addition, the plot was very predictable and I didn't love the way it turned out, but overall it was a decent comedy with a handful of laughs to be had.
Horrible Bosses (Seth Gordon, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
Mortal Kombat: The Movie (Paul W.S. Anderson, 1995) 2½ out of 4 stars
Reservoir Dogs (Quentin Tarantino, 1992) 4 out of 4 stars

Red State (Kevin Smith, 2011) 1½ out of 4 stars
I was never a huge Kevin Smith fan, to be honest. People hail Clerks as a great comedy, but I found it to be incredibly dull, as I do his other films. Red State is the exact opposite of dull, but I don't mean that in a good way. It's a total assault on the senses. The film starts as a sort of horror flick, using disturbing imagery to replace actual scares. The film later ditches the whole "horror" schtick and becomes an incredibly long shootout with intense, graphic violence. The performances are good, but it's sad to see talented actors such as Michael Parks, Stephen Root, John Goodman, and Melissa Leo act in such crap. The story is very uneven and doesn't make a lot of sense, plus it can get pretty dumb at points. What starts off as a horror movie loses focus and can't decide on what it wants to be. Unfortunately, it doesn't do any of what it does well.
The Big Bang (Tony Krantz, 2011) ½ out of 4 stars
This is by far one of the worst movies of the year. I can appreciate the film noir style of storytelling and the visuals can be creative at points, but The Big Bang has such a convoluted and over-complicated story that's hard to follow and just isn't interesting. I love Antonio Banderas's voice but his acting leaves a lot to be desired in this film, and the underrated William Fichtner looks like he just doesn't give a crap. Ultimately, this isn't even much of a film. It's a series of scenes tied loosely together by a crap plot that goes to different levels of absurdity and convolution.
I was wanting to see that one. TBH I didn't really think it would be worth much. Your review does give me some hope that it might actually be good. Like I wanted it to be. :)
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't that great. A lot of the movie is useless fluff. All you really need to do is focus on the subplot involving Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne. Everything else is pointless and uninteresting.

Always a good movie. Quite a fresh and original alien storyline. Will Smith still manages to pull off some fun humor and Jones is a nice dry straight-faced partner. A good compliment to Smith's character J.

Black Hawk Down - 8/10
Got me hella psyched for BF3
The Trip (Michael Winterbottom, 2011) 3 out of 4 stars
I'm surprised at how a movie with no story could be this enjoyable. There's no major conflict, no climax, etc. It follows Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they go across England on a tour of various fine dining establishments. Most of the humor is in the witty and fun dialogue and the two charming leads. It's actually an edited-down version of a BBC miniseries, so I'd like to see the miniseries just to see what was cut (because I doubt the miniseries takes 110 minutes to watch).
The Ward (John Carpenter, 2011) 1½ out of 4 stars
There's not much I can critique this film about without spoiling it, so I'll give my general feelings about the film and then give some detailed complaints in spoiler tags. The film feels very recycled. There is nothing original about the film. The characters are either unlikeable or boring. The film isn't very scary. The only "scary" moments consist of a girl with a grotesque face (she's just gross, not scary; she looks like a Ghoul from the Fallout games) jumping out, and as everyone knows, jump scares are the laziest kinds of scares. The poster for the film says that "John Carpenter is still the master of shock," and I find it amusing that the poster uses "shock" and not "fear."
The plot twist is taken straight out of films like Fight Club (the protagonist is killing off her split-personalities through this ghost), although admittedly the film does a good job of setting up the twist throughout the movie, but it's not like it wasn't predictable from a mile away.
Why would an entire floor of a hospital be used for one particular patient?
How is it healthy to let a patient live their delusions at the risk of their own physical health, especially when you are planning to relieve them of the delusion at some point? The longer someone lives a lie, the harder it is to convince him/her that it is such.
Most of the killings take place in some other location, away from the protagonist.

Well, it was predictable because of the setting and the premise, but if you hadn't guessed it because of that, the movie did a good job of throwing little hints at you and referencing the twist before it happens.
Saw 3D (Kevin Greutert, 2010) 1½ out of 4 stars

I shouldn't have payed money for that crap-fest. I never went to any of the saw films when they came in theater. Always waited for them on DVD, but there was sooo much hype for the last one: that it will have awesome kills and cool 3D effects (which was completely lacking the whole way through - the 3D part). But it did end good, so on the poop scale, it gets 3.5 out of 4 poops.

How To Train Your Dragon: 7.5/10
Good movie. I just wish that I was 12 when I was watching this. I gotta say, even though the movie isnt super touchy, i'm still a sucker for their more emotional scenes and my stupid tear ducts didnt listen very well.
La Bamba (Luis Valdez, 1987) 3½ out of 4 stars
I'd hate to compare this film to Selena, but they are both about Spanish-American musicians whose careers and lives ended at an incredibly early age. Plus, I've seen them both very recently in my conversational Spanish class. Selena shows how not to do biopic and La Bamba is a perfect example of a very good one. Selena was very shallow and never dove into the character or anything deeper than just her touring. The film also drove home the message of following your dreams to an annoyingly high degree, and the character was never interesting or developed, always the victim in every situation. La Bamba, on the other hand, is about so much more than Ritchie Valens's career. It's about his relationship with his brother, an abusive alcoholic who both loves and envies Ritchie, his success, and the attention he receives. Esai Morales gives a great performance as said brother Bob Morales, and Lou Diamond Phillips does a good job as the subject of the biopic, Ritchie Valens. Joe Pantaliano does excellent work as Bob Keene, Ritchie's producer and agent. I was expecting the film to play him up as a selfish, money-hungry man, but he's genuinely a good person all of the way through. It tells a story without hammering any sort of message. La Bamba feels like a faithful retelling of the beginning of Ritchie Valens up until The Day the Music Died while Selena felt like it was edited just to make her likeable and drive home a point.

Indeed.
Winnie the Pooh (Stephen J. Anderson/Don Hall, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
Make fun of me all you want. I adored this movie. It has a sort of purity and innocence that very few family films have these days. The whole cast of characters returns in this film, and there's not a single one I dislike. Pooh has an adorable simplicity, Tigger is energetic and fun, and although Eeyore is kinda depressing, he's still very likeable. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times in the film and when I wasn't, I had a big, stupid grin on my face. The classic theme song is sung by the talented and beautiful Zooey Deschanel which works really well. Winnie the Pooh is a very heartwarming, very charming, and very enjoyable movie.
Reservoir Dogs (Quentin Tarantino, 1992) 4 out of 4 stars
This is one of my all-time favorite films. The performances are fantastic across the board, the dialogue is sharp and enjoyable, and the film boasts a ton of glorious violence for those who enjoy the classic Tarantino waterfalls of blood. This was his first film and he's grown as a filmmaker tremendously, but Reservoir Dogs is still one of my favorites of his.

I'm going with the unoriginal choice by saying that my favorite Tarantino film is Pulp Fiction, but Reservoir Dogs comes in a close second followed by Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill Volume 1, and Kill Bill Volume 2 (in that order). I still need to see Planet Terror and Four Rooms and I'm really looking forward to Django Unchained.

The People Vs. George Lucas 7/10
Fun little documentary on the most extreme and dedicated Star Wars fans who bitch and cry about the 1997 re-masters and special editions and the prequels. I like how George Lucas has kept his calm for so long, given all these reactions. That's probably why he does so few public interviews. Anyways, you can dwelve into the nerdiest of nerds in this little doc. One of them blames Lucas for ruining her marriage because she brought all the Star Wars toys and her husband left her. LOL. Even though it's your own fault for CHOOSING to get every toy while no gun is pointed at your head, you still blame Lucas. There are some points I agree with, like Jar Jar Binks being in the prequels and that childish feel to all the movies, except the last one which was pretty good. It shows 2 sides to the story, but it's a fun watch. I see why Lucas doesn't want to make anymore Star Wars movies. Because of these vultures nitpicking at everything. Well then I'm gonna make Star Wars my way and it's gonna be completely adult themed, r-rated. I want drama, suspense, great action, nudity, coarse language and gritty death scenes. No more of that kiddy shit. They have toys, good enough.
The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick, 2011) 4 out of 4 stars
I didn't enjoy my second viewing as much as the first (I still enjoyed it a lot), but it did give me a much better understanding of The Tree of Life and I gained a higher appreciation for this masterpiece of a film. The performances are excellent, with Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt both deserving Oscar nods. The cinematography is fantastic, the visuals during the creation montage are amazing, and the music is beautiful. The film is a bit vague at points and it's not a film for everyone, but those with the patience for The Tree of Life will find it to be a a treat for both the mind and the senses. So far, this is my favorite movie of 2011.
Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994) 4 out of 4 stars
I've only met one person in my life who dislikes this film. What's not to love? It's dark and hilarious, the dialogue is perfect as it is in all Tarantino films, the performances are all great (Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman in particular), and the film oozes style. The storytelling is really cool, with multiple stories that overlap. I also really like how Tarantino's films all take place in the same universe (for example, John Travolta's Vincent Vega is brothers with Michael Madsen's Vic Vega a.k.a. Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs). In my humble opinion, Pulp Fiction is an absolutely perfect movie.
Horrible Bosses (Seth Gordon, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
I'm done with this movie. I love it and all, but I think this is my fourth time watching it. I saw it in theaters over the summer and I've watched it three times On Demand this month (once with my mother, and one time apiece with two different friends).

Hehe yeah, I love that about his movies. Guy Ritchie does it too, sort of. Lock Stock and Snatch have same actors, different names, but they are in the same situation, it's as if Lock Stock, Snatch and RockNRolla are one trilogy of films that connect with each other.

Brides Maids - 6/10
I had heard from a few people that this was surprisingly funny. It had some moments that made me bust out laughing (I was semi-drunk though) but overall it was just OK. A lot of the "funny" parts weren't, really. And it was too long. Kristen Wiig is funny at times but she is kind of a one-trick pony and it gets old.

The Exorcist (William Friedkin, 1973) 2 out of 4 stars
I remember seeing this at a very young age and being scared, so I finally decided to man up and watch it again last night to see if it's still scary. Unfortunately, it's not. Even worse, it's not even a good movie. It's so incredibly dull that I kept forgetting that I was even watching a horror movie. Linda Blair is excellent as Regan and of the course the iconic theme is great, but the actual exorcism doesn't take place until the movie is almost over, and Regan doesn't even start showing signs of being possessed until forty-ish minutes in. Originally I had my guard way up, but less than halfway into the movie I let it down because nothing was fucking happening. I was so bored out of my mind and very disappointed.
30 Days of Night (David Slade, 2007) 3 out of 4 stars
Vampire lovers, fear not. Some filmmakers still respect these mythical creatures. 30 Days of Night takes vampires and makes them scary and badass again. The film is frightening and suspenseful and really treats vampires with respect unlike a certain saga of books/films . . .

Yeah, I think The Excorcist is overrated as well. The reason it was such a big deal back in the day was simply because of how graphic it was. It was shocking to people, and probably disturbing. But in today's world, it just seems lame.

Yeah, the funny thing I've noticed on the Rotten Tomatoes page is that the audience hates it a lot more than the critics, with the critics giving it an aggregated score of 73 percent. However, Cloverfield recieved an aggregated score of 77 percent from critics and that ended up being one of my favorite movies.

The Green Hornet - 6 out of 10
I am actually tempted to give this movie an F. There was so much wrong with this movie, and I left and went to bed midpoint. Kato was actually the one doing it all. Then there's just the fact that the movie just did not entertain me. The villain was actually okay, but the superheros were not. Maybe this movie just did not appeal to me. I hated the way this movie progressed, everything was moving way too fast.

Batman (1989) 6/10
How it has such a high score on IMDB is beyond me. The only thing that made this movie entertaining was Jack Nicholson. The Prince dance sequence was so gay and pointless and some of the editing is bad, showing multiple shots in trying to make a montage. I can understand how people loved it at the time since that was one of the very first comic book movies, but still, I do not see the appeal and praise at all. Ledger was a better Joker because he actually captured the Joker's insanity and unpredictability. In this version, Joker has an origin story and he wants to run Gotham by wanting attention from press. I can still see some parallels that TDK took from this. The whole scene where Batman tries to shoot Joker with his Batjet and Joker's all like, "hit me". I'm so glad I wasn't born into an 80's child-hood. Some of the fashion is just so retarded and Lady Gaga-ish. Also, did I mention the Prince dance sequence? Yeah, epic fail.

I loved this movie. I laughed, I jumped out of my seat, and I cried at the end. This was a really good movie and is the best movie I've seen in a long time. It had plenty of action, suspense, and the characters were nice. The movie did not move too fast like the Green Hornet and I could actually relate to some of the things in the movie, me being a christian. Life in a Day (Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, July 24, 2010) 10/10, 5 out of 5 stars 100%
That's my review, in the title. This is, by far, the most interesting documentary you will ever see in your entire life. I'm not exaggerating that statement, I truly mean that. Remember last year, when Youtube had a banner at the front page whee it said, "Life in a Day"? Well, everyone on the planet who had access to Internet and a camera would have a shot at documenting their day, and literally filming anything they wanted in it. Even me, you or your friend across the globe could upload their clip to Youtube and have Tony or Ridley look at it. There is literally over 4500 of footage in total, edited down to 90 minutes. This is the type of stuff that the Discovery Channel, along with BBC and National Geographic would show. But since this documentary barely cost anything to make, Youtube made it viewable to everyone in the world for free.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaFVr_cJJIY
Seriously, take 2 hours out of your day to watch this documentary. You will be so emotionally connected and interested in it that you will have the same reaction as me: WOW. And if you don't, then something is clearly wrong with you. This could seem very regular to you, but if you see the bigger message in it, you will be surprised and amazed of how ironic it is. What is the meaning of life? This documentary answers that. This is easily the most ambitious project ever done in the history of mankind, or at least to me it is. This is timeless, so that means that people 10, 20 and even 100 years from now can watch this and have a similar reaction and world view.
The documentary is about what happened on the 24th of July in 2010. It shows people from all facets of life. Rich, middle-class, poor and third world living conditions. It will activate all your emotions and it will get you thinking. It will make you happy, angry, sad, scared and enlightened. And you know what's funny about this being free? I would actually pay to see it and I will pay to buy it if it ever comes on blu-ray. The editing is really nice. It shows the day in chronilogical order. Morning, noon, afternoon, dawn, night and finally, the 24th hour at midnight. It shows all kinds of people from all over the world .You get to see if they are happy, sad, angry. You get to see if they are dealing with a current problem in their day, on the 24th of July. There is nothing special about that day, but now it has so much meaning to everyone involved. So, I will close off my review with this last statement: I beg you to see this documentary before you die.

Wow, this movie blew me away. I love film noir and this does a really good job of getting to noir atmosphere down. Jack Nicholson is phenomenal in this. Movies like this is why he's one of my favorite actors. The rest of the cast is also very good, including Faye Dunaway and John Huston (who, funnily enough, wrote and directed The Maltese Falcon which this film kept reminding me of). Chinatown is suspenseful as hell and the plot twists keep on piling up as the case grows bigger, expanding from the simple task of following a man to something so much more. This is truly a masterpiece, and I would put it in my top twenty-five favorite films.

Melancholia 10/10
I was so interested in this movie when I heard of it because of the premise: A planet will crash into Earth. The movie did not disappoint. They say this is Kirsten Dunst's best acting in her whole career. I liked her sister in the movie's acting a little more but Dunst did very well. Some of the cinematography at the start is beautiful. Although it may be a little slow, it's worth it for the end. Really great ending.
However, I want some questions answered
Was the wedding staged? She was emo all night for no reason other than she is sick when we find out later on. She didn't wanna get in the bathtub, but she can ride a horse and eat a piece of meatloaf? Wtf? I thought she had cancer. Then the next plothole for me was when her sister came up to her room to talk to her. Claire says "if you think I'm scared of Melancholia then you're too stupid". Ok, so what was she scared of instead?
I hope it gets nominated for best picture or at least best screenplay and acting.

30 minutes or less 6/10
This could have had great potential if it was actually longer and didn't have plotholes. Jesse Eisenberg, Azis Ansari and Danny McBride were great. They made the movie funny, I laughed a lot. However, it was way too short and the ending sucked. It could have been a great movie if the plot was a little more developed. Oh well.

Sports in Society. We watched it before covering our lecture on religion in sports. It's about 2 runners who are competing in the 1924 Olympics. One is a Jew while the other is a Christian. It plays a lot into the story. Pretty good watch if you are curious about it. Would definitely suggest it.

Out Idiot Brother 6.5/10
What a random start. I love Paul Rudd's beard and Jesus hair. He could totally pull of Serpico and grunge too. It has some laughs, but very few and only in the beginning. Zooey Deschanel is freaking hot (would love to give he some pumping and then a creamy surprise at the end! lololol) Rashina Jones is also cute in her big glasses. I also find irony in the main character and how it parallels to Jesus' story. He only means good to people and they still treat him like shit, but he sacrifices himself in the end and they all come begging back for him. It's a good story, only needed to have more laughs.
Surprised you never heard of that movie. I'm sure you'll recognize the theme...

I absolutely loved this movie. Definitely in my top ten so far this year. As for your questions, I'll give you my take on the film:
Her sickness was a crippling depression. As someone who has always had clinical depression and bipolar disorder, I can confirm that symptoms like that do occur. As for the other question, I saw the movie about a month ago so I don't exactly remember the scene or the context of that dialogue.
I saw it in august and i gave it a 5/10. I don't exactly remember, but i had a lot of problems with it. It was mostly beautiful to look at.

Kevin Smith: Too Fat For 40.
I won't give this a score since it's a Q&A. But I loved it cause I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan (since 2003) and his Q&A DVD's are always interesting and funny to watch. Especially the Evening with Kevin Smith series. In this one, he talks about the box office failure of Zack and Miri, his weed hobby and directing Cop Out with Bruce Willis, which makes me think Bruce Willis is a fucking asshole diva on set, but a goddamn awesome action star.
Let's just say that if books had to be burned, I would call up Kevin Smith and if I ask him even one question that doesn't deserve a long response, he would always tell me a novel in one or two hours. That's why he has SMODcast and since 2007 when it started, it has been free to this day on iTunes. Great for long road trips.
Some of you may not care or respect Kevin Smith. But that's ok. Just don't be a douchebag about it, ok? For any Kevin Smith fan out here on PSU.com, I recommend this Q&A. The DVD version is nearly 4 hours long.

I saw both parts of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night at my college for free. I haven't seen a Harry Potter movie in a long time (I've seen the first two and part of the third I think on tv). I was pretty lost at first, but I still though it was awesome.

Watch it if you have nothing else to watch. The guy from Game of Thrones is in this (Drago I think, the Dragon tribe leader) and he has potential to be a great action star. Hopefully he gets more roles cause I like his style. He could actually do a rock biopic of someone. He's sexy.

If so, that looked interesting.Key words there being past tense. For a movie marketed around the idea of "monsters" aka aliens... it has very little of it. Unless you like the two main characters, it's gonna go nowhere fast. Even if the ending is good or even decent... getting through the meat of the film is a chore.
Real Steel - 7/10
The overall plot is predictable, the age-old terrible father forced to spend time with his son and in the end love each other. However, their relationship starting out is a snappier than I was expecting which was nice and the robot fighting was entertaining. The end fight is predictable but it was still fun to watch.

The Devil's Double 10/10
Gripping story on the life of Uday Hussein, one of Saddam's children, who forced Latif Yahia, a man that looks exactly like him, to be his body double. The title of the movie is accurate because that was man was truly not right in the head. There's an awesome gore scene and Dominic Cooper can play two roles in one movie so well. How this got such a low score of 7 on IMDB astounds me. I guess people really do settle for shit, instead of quality. Watch this movie if you get the chance because it's a blu-ray purchase in my books.
Puss in Boots (Chris Miller, 2011) 2½ out of 4 stars
This is a passable children's film with some laughs for adults but ultimately the jokes get repetitive. I found myself laughing out loud at some parts but for most of it I was pretty stoic. I think the big issue here is that Puss in Boots isn't really a leading man. I thought he would be, but he's not. He was the best thing about the Shrek sequels but I now realize that he's really only good in doses. Did I enjoy it? Yeah, I guess, but I doubt I'll be seeing it again anytime soon. Decent but completely forgettable.

The Immortals 8.5/10- I'm not going to bash this movie for it's weak plot because 300 was basically under this category but I loved the shit out of it. The action is really good in the movie but it does fall short of the epicness that I was expecting. The god's in the movie are brutal. If you are looking for action then you shouldn't be disappointed. Plus there is an extremely nice ass in the movie. :P I know there will be plenty of reviews come through here that will hate it but I liked it. It is just one of those movies that you could see others enjoying but others will probably hate it. Ending was kind of rushed though. Only complaint really. A lot of plot holes too. This is a simple minded plot that is fueled by action so if plot is what you want might want to stay away. I was satisfied but don't go into it expecting 300 epic. They do pull a bunch of cues from that movie though. A good bit of the props are laughable to say the least.
Gnomeo and Juliet (Kelly Asbury, 2011) 1½ out of 4 stars
Take the concept of Toy Story, apply it to a story that's been done to death (referencing that it's been done to death doesn't excuse it), throw in jokes and gags we've all seen before, and you've got Gnomeo and Juliet. It's harmless entertainment for kids, but it's so generic, boring, and unfunny that it's hard for anyone other than a small child to enjoy. On the plus side, the music is awesome (it's all Elton John) and the voice acting is good, with a cast featuring James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, and Maggie Smith, some smaller parts voiced by Stephen Merchant and Patrick Stewart, and some very odd voice actors: Jason Statham, Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton, and even Hulk Hogan.

I noticed a message in the movie. We as humans are fucked up. The apes only killed a few humans, and mostly out of self-defence and two or three out of revenge, but Caeaser was like "no" when some of the apes wanted to kill. We wouldn't have hesitated.
Also, I have the Space channel (I miss that channel) to thank for the original planet of the apes movies and the Lost in Space tv show, the very old one, but still in color. If it wasn't for that, I would not have been into the sci-fi genre as much. I also watched Lexx on that channel and Stargate SG-1, the original series.

Attack the Block 9/10- I've had this movie rented for 2 weeks now and really just haven't got around to it because of fear that it would be a cheesy monster movie. I was wrong. This movie had some great action in and some great humor. Had a very strong hint of Shaun of the Dead to it. Serious in premise but light-hearted for the the most part. A great watch. Although I felt a bit lost with all the English slang in the movie as it was not light on it. Plus I had to turn subtitles on just to understand what most people were saying. Lol Great movie!

Yeah I always use subtitles on all the films I watch. Been doing it for 2-3 years now and honestly, there might be some shit you can miss without the subtitles, but when you have them on, you get more clarity. And yeah, for English movies, I certainly need it lol.
You're the second person who says Attack the Block is a good movie. I couldn't take the trailer seriously because it looks like a bunch of British chavs/gang bangers saving the world from aliens.
The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001) 3 out of 4 stars
I wasn't expecting to like this since this is only my second Wes Anderson film and I didn't like the first one I saw (Fantastic Mr. Fox). However, this is a quirky film that starts of funny and slowly tugs at your heart strings. It's a story of forgiveness and redempton wrapped in great performances and a smart script.
Beginners (Mike Mills, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
Absolutely brilliant movie. It's funny, it's sad, and it's really well-made. There's not much I can say about it except the plot was original, Christopher Plummer deserves Best Supporting Actor consideration, Ewan McGregor proves that he's a highly underrated actress, and Melanie Laurent is both beautiful and talented, and is slowly becoming one of my favorite actresses working in Hollywood today.
The Dilemma (Ron Howard, 2011) 2 out of 4 stars
The acting was fine and the plot was new to me, but I really couldn't find any laughs. It almost felt like the movie wasn't even trying to be funny. It's not like the movie had bad jokes, it's that the movie didn't have any jokes at all, which left it very bare. Ron Howard seems to be a very hit-and-miss director for me. When he's great, he's really great, with movies like A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, and Frost/Nixon. When he's bad, he's pretty bad, with stuff like this and Willow.
Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino, 1994) 4 out of 4 stars
Fargo (Coen brothers, 1996) 4 out of 4 stars
Scream (Wes Craven, 1996) 3½ out of 4 stars

Even watching the movie in the first 5 minutes I was still thinking this. It's kind of hard to like the characters at first because essentially they are just a group of some pieces of shit. But overall by the end of the movie it changes a good bit. I think my view of it being so good was the fact that I went into it with a low scale of expectations. Like I said it is a comedy/thriller/action movie. Basically if those groups appeal to you, I suggest you check it out. There are definitely some goofy pieces to the movie but since it isn't really meant to be taken extremely serious it isn't a big deal.

I would give it a 7/10, mainly because you can find a lot of the best scenes in the first hour of the movie and the plot is a bit too predictable. The special effects and music are nice though.

The script is mediocre, but TRON: Legacy also gets a very high score from me because it's pretty much the ultimate sensory experience. The visuals, art style, soundtrack, action, girls, etc. It's just such a pleasurable movie to watch. :D

I loved this movie. Great story, good acting, great action, and everything. This movie is on par with the first 2011 movie I watched, Season of the Witch, and it may be even better. I highly recommend this movie if you like war movies or just generally scifi movies.

A LOT. War movies: We were Soldiers, Letters from Iwa Jima, Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, and more. Those are just some of my favorites.
Sci Fi movies: 90s Aliens, 90s Predator, X Files movies, Distict 9, and too many more to count.

There are a lot of movies nowadays that have "enough action to please" but that doesn't necessarily make it a good movie. Battle: Los Angeles just so happens to be another alien invasion movie filled with one-dimensional characters in a cliche-riddled narrative. I don't blame you for liking it though. I was a big fan of action movies myself when I was a kid but what separates District 9 from Battle: Los Angeles is the fact that District 9 doesn't completely throw out important elements like exposition, good pacing, and dialogue. And because of that I doubt the majority of people will remember this movie in ten years' time.

A lot of these movies that you listed are movies that people already remember. Especially the Aliens movies. I don't think people will remember The X-Files movies (except for the first movie since that was the only good one). But that's why I had to ask because I watch a lot of sci-fi movies myself. I just don't see where Battle: Los Angeles had a good story. To give it a perfect rating is awfully generous.
To be fair...Black Wolf also gave Season of the Witch a 9 or 10. Maybe she's just easy to satisfy.
Personally, I'd give Battle:LA a 7 or so. Enough action and whatnot to keep me entertained, but thats about it.

Fargo 7/10- I was expecting much more from this movie considering how great it was hailed but it was ok to me. Pretty much not that big of a fan of the Coen bros. A crazy thing to think that this was a true story. I couldn't stop laughing at the people's accents in the movie. Steve Buscemi and William H. Macy were definitely the highlights of this one. Not a bad movie but definitely wasn't intrigued by it.

I loved Fargo. I honestly thought the cops were Canadian because of their accents. "you betcha!" But the best scene was the wood chipper scene, where she catches the guy and after she yells "Freeze!" she points at the badge on her hat, which I thought was just hilarious, because who does that?

It was a good movie but it was a little off-key for me. The wood chipper part was awesome. I love the guy who was playing that part but not so much in this movie well because he doesn't say much. But he was a ruthless SOB!

Agree with the negative Battle: LA posts. It was just so by the numbers. I too definitely had my hopes too high for it. Mainly because the trailer was excellent.
For me, the trailer made it seem like more of an alternative alien film, the music particularly set up a more interesting approach, a more desperate fight.
It was better on the second viewing, as with Transformers 2, I knew not to expect something better.
Again though - the trailer was excellent.

Yeah the acting was fucking superb from both of them. Loved the sound design too when shit hits the fan, you hear this sound effect that almost sounds like it could be an intro to a badass song, and then it shifts back or a day, week or moves forward that way. TRF said it was his favourite movie of all time, so I had to check it out. And Phillip Seymour Hoffman is one of my favourite actors in Hollywood. Even in MI3, he was such a great villain. It's so fucked up what the dad did to his son in this movie, but at the same time, you can't blame him, given the circumstances.
Almost forgot, Marisa Tomei was fucking hot in this movie! Omg, I would do her in a heartbeat. That cute look on her face and her sexy little voice gave me such a hard-on. TMI, I know, but I can't resist expressing my feelings for her with my penis LOL.

Life in a Day (Kevin MacDonald, 2011) 3 out of 4 stars
I'm a firm believer that a good documentary can interest someone regardless of the subject of the documentary. Life in a Day isn't really about much. People from around the world recorded themselves for a full day and sent them to YouTube, at which point the footage was cut together and made into a 95-minute film. It doesn't have a subject; it's basically just other people living their lives, but for some reason it's actually really interesting. I think it's available on YouTube for free, so definitely check it out.
Inception (Christopher Nolan, 2010) 3½ out of 4 stars
TRF said it was his favourite movie of all time, so I had to check it out.
Not my favorite of all time (that would be Martin Scorsese's 1976 masterpiece Taxi Driver), but definitely in my top 25 and my favorite movie of the 2000s
What's it about?
Basically, Ethan Hawke and PSH are brothers who want to make some quick cash so they get their friend to rob their parents' jewelry store, thinking they won't be inside it. However, their mother IS inside, and while attempting to stop the robber, they are both shot and killed. Now the two brothers must deal with the guilt while also dealing with their widower father who doesn't know of their involvement. Very powerful, emotional, and moving film.

The Bourne Trilogy 9/10
One of the best action trilogies. Unlike The Matrix Trilogy this actually gets better. One of the things I study is editing and this franchise is partially built on that which is fun to watch and learn for my sake.
The first film is great at setting up the character and how the action works. The third film finishes the character's story and is the epitome of Bourne's action. Definitely deserving of the Oscar it got.
This is the kind grounded and smart action I can really dig into as opposed to blown-out epic action various Hollywood movies try to conquer.
We'll see if the upcoming The Bourne Legacy is anything good, but so far it seems to be just a spin-off cash-in.

Idle Hands 7/10
A horror movie that doesn't take itself seriously but instead makes fun of horror movies. It's setup as a teen slasher flick, but instead of 1-dimensional Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers-type characters, you get a killer hand from the Adams Family. It's slightly under-rated IMO and I must have watched this movie a shitload of times as a kid. Jessica Alba is in it and she looks so goddamn hot. Her acting was shitty though. They say the reason it didn't do so well at the box office was because the Columbine Massacre happened in the same week. But it's a pretty funny horror movie and doesn't make it obvious that it parodies the horror genre like the Scream movies make it so obvious, not that there's anything wrong that. Just saying.

Definitely a massively under-rated film. Hardly anyone has heard of it. But a quality film.
Catch Me If You Can (Steven Spielberg, 2002) 3 out of 4 stars
This was actually pretty good. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christopher Walken were great in it, and it was interesting to see a bunch of big actresses before their prime playing small roles, such as Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Garner, and Amy Adams. I also liked the little part played by Martin Sheen. The only bad performance was by Tom Hanks, and it honestly baffles me how anyone likes him as an actor. He's either over-the-top like in this and Forrest Gump (he's never the character he's playing, he's simply Tom Hanks with an accent), or he's just plain boring like in Big and The Da Vinci Code. Overall, though, it's a smart film and one of Spielberg's more underrated gems, considering he's known mainly for big-budget films like Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

50/50 10/10
What a great film. Awesome acting from J. Levitt and Seth Rogen, who made the movie hilarious, as he always does in almost every comedy he's in. Strong character development. You like him at first, then you hate him, and then you like him again. The plot and the way it's shot works very well on an emotional. How many times have you ever feared that your loved one or best friend was gonna get cancer because of their lifestyle? Wasn't the case in this plot because it randomly showed up and he was healthy, but it's relative because we care about someone who is harming themselves. I loved the scene where he finds out he has cancer. As soon as the doctor says the word cancer, the audio just blurs out in his world. You hear a slow hum then a high pitched, continuos ring, like the ringing you sometimes get in your ears at random times. That was a nicely done scene. I'm not gonna lie, I did kinda tear up a little near the end of the movie before the procedure started. I think that's how you win an audience IMO. Make em relate to the character.
And personally, I think the hardest part about getting cancer is not the fact that you might know that you'll die, but how you'll tell your family and how they deal with it. You don't want them to worry and you know they will after you pass away and that just kills you a little inside.
Anyways, it's a great movie because it's serious and when you think it'll become too depressing to watch, Seth Rogen just adds some of his golden lines in the film and you laugh. Blu-ray purchase for xmas, hands down!
Mmmm... Jessica Alba. Although not her hottest moment, but I'll take it.
lol yeah, she literally said her lines like a pornstar..with a cute voice, sorta like Jenna Haze and Katie Morgan combined, oh and you do get to see some boobage from her, unfortunately covered up, but still out there nonetheless

That guy was so lucky to act out with her. I would be fired if I was in his position because I would dry hump her leg or rub up on her. Maybe even slip the tongue. Ah...one can fantasize.

Sien nui yau wan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1861421/combined) (Chinese Ghost Story 2011)
A remake of a classic movie from 1987 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093978/combined).
It's well made, but the plot changes are not for better and in process it loses all the magic the original had.
Everything Must Go was a brilliant film. It's not a comedy, though, so it's really not supposed to be funny. I hope you're trolling. I take this shit seriously.
Don knock the Tommeh!
Catch me is a great fim I thought I wouldn't like it when I first saw it but I found myself totally drawn in. It also shows how relatively easy ti was to do cheque fraud back then.
Pearl Jam Twenty (Cameron Crowe, 2011) 3½ out of 4 stars
This is the best documentary I've seen all year. You might not like it if you're not into Pearl Jam or grunge music in general, but I am so I found it very interesting. It goes into a lot of detail, and I learned new things about the band such as their big battle with Ticketmaster which I really respect.
Hugo (Martin Scorsese, 2011) 4 out of 4 stars
I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. On one hand, it's out of Scorsese's comfort zone. On the other hand, it's Martin fucking Scorsese. I'm pleased to say that while it does feel like a departure from his usual work, it still demonstrates his appreciation for cinema and is an absolutely wonderful film. I wish I had seen it in 3D, because it was really well shot (we're talking Oscar-worthy cinematography here) and the special effects were really creatively done. On top of that, all of the performances were fantastic, especially Ben Kingsley who should receive a Best Supporting Actor nod. It's sweet, whimsical, and charming, but it also has a lot of heart and a really interesting story with deep characters that all serve a purpose in the film and are more than meets the eye. This is easily top five material for me this year.
Season of the Witch (Dominic Sena, 2011) 2½ out of 4 stars
I was expecting to hate this but it fell into the "so bad it's good" category for me. The action is actually decent but the acting is so hammy and the dialogue is so inauthentic that it's hard not to enjoy this movie for the beautiful disaster that it is.
Fargo (Coen brothers, 1996) 4 out of 4 stars
The Town (Ben Affleck, 2010) 4 out of 4 stars
It's slightly under-rated IMO and I must have watched this movie a shitload of times as a kid. Jessica Alba is in it and she looks so goddamn hot.
For a movie called Idle Hands, it sure sounds like it kept your hands quite busy.

I want to rep you because you like Pearl Jam. I LOVE Pearl Jam! But Cameron Crowe is a great rock-filmmaker. Almost Famous is a great movie.

The Jessica Alba screen-time, certainly.

I saw Almost Famous a long time ago and I remember liking it. I need to watch it again.

Yeah, I've been waiting to see a sequel for a good while now. Cloverfield was great. My only complaint was that the movie wasn't as long as I expected.

megan is missing was the last film i saw after i found out about it through searching for info on human centipede 2 and i'll give it a 6/10 the good points:
strong message gets put across and will definitely get you thinking about things and a good character development The saying you can't unsee a movie is so true to this tale the shocking final is just..... human centipede has shit on that film it's just plain sick, don't let the drama categorization fool you, the final 25-30 minutes from the picture one point is pure horror just think before you watch because it will affect you!

Sanctum - 9 out of 10
I was shocked at how good this movie was. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for most of the movie, you just didn't know who was going to die next. It's also based on a true story. My only gripe with this movie was I could not understand what they were saying half the time. They spoke English, but with a very heavy accent.

Not a bad movie. Had some pretty cool moments for its time. But also some really fucking retarded and stupid ones that you would see in a normal Sam Raimi movie.

Is "PS: I love you" pretty good? I know it's older, but I keep hearing it's a touching movie.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - 8/10
The Girl who Played with Fire - 7.5/10
The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - 7.5/10
I thought all three were pretty solid films, with the first being the best of the bunch. Not perfect, but entertaining and interesting enough. I haven't read the books, BTW.
I want to see Fincher's version because I think his will be better than the Swedish one.
Ed Wood (Tim Burton, 1994) 3½ out of 4 stars
This is easily Tim Burton's best movie, and the only one of his I find to be truly great. Great performances by Johnny Depp and Martin Landau and a wonderful black-and-white filter that adds to the authenticity of the visuals.
Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976) 4 out of 4 stars
Simply amazing. My favorite film of all time.
Super 8 - 8.5/10
Despite a few small problems with the movie, I really enjoyed it. Had some good humor, drama and action throughout. Not perfect, but I still liked it quite a bit.
The Thing - Dissapointing movie. the music in the moments leading upto action sequences ruin any sense of fear. in john carpenters 'the thing', you just hear nothing except a beat..if you've seen it you'll know what i mean...very average movie. there's no ATMOSPHERE and it killed it along with the characterless actors and ridiculous monsters..totally overdone imo. 6/10

I too LOVED super 8. but i love J.J. when hes making movies. for some reason his movies lack just a little bit of something for me to consider them "epic class" but whenever i watch them, i literally do not find one fault or anything that annoyed me about them. which is quite rare because im pretty critical. they are just a good time ride from start to finish. Star Trek was the same way.
I loved Super 8 as well. And Joe Lamb was such a great character.
