The new PS2 is 75% lighter and it looks better by just a little?
I got teh regular PS2, why would i want to get this? Does it go
faster than the regular PS2 and if it does...is it by a little?!
Anyways for me it would be a waste of money because Im waiting for PS3 which is coming out around 2005 Dec or Early 2006? Thats Like
18 months to 19 months away?
If you already have a PS2 why bother? The slimmed down version is just mainly to appeal to gamers who are yet to get a PS2.
Basically it has a built in ethernet but no HD, but that's not confirmed, they might put in like a 20 gig hd in there, real small one...Who knows but if you already got one I don't think another one is worthy...The fact that it won't have a HD well it's not a fact yet we'll have to see on that...yeah...
:D Though if it has a built in ethernet and hd, who knows...I wouldn't mind getting one for those games that use the HD :D

I trade my older PS2 for the newer smaller one, i have a warranty that i payed for, so i wont lose any money if i give it back. I GET ALL 300$$ BACK!! So i will use that to buy my smaller version of PS2, then get warranty for that one, and when PS3 comes out, trade it in for the PS3 and so on...
LoL anyways i buy all my systems.
Im 16 and I get paid $60 a day, guess what job i have and btw its "Part-time"!

I know i'll be buying one.
I never ever trade in my old consoles, i still have my Commodar 64, Master system, Mega drive, NES, SNES, 2 PSone's, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox, Gamecube, and my 2 PS2's.
You might be wondering why i buy 2 of the same console....well i'm planning on buying a third PS2 (the new slim one)....the reason is...becasue i always...have many mates round, and i like to link the consoles and have a LAN party...so all my mates, and my other brothers play.....i guess i'll have to get another TV for the 3rd PS2.

Actually as a teenager it wouldnt cost much to buy 2 of each if thats what you mainly spend your money on. Assuming you have a part time job and everything bringing in about $300 every 2 weeks.

Yeah, i guess you could put it that way. A LAN party is basically when you connect 2 or more consoles together and play multiplayer.
The PS2 (and i think the PSone also) does it via the i.Link, but i'n not all that sure about the xbox one, i think it does it through a USB link.
GT3 is one of the many games i play on a LAN party with my PS2.
Although i dont have 2 or more xbox's, my friends bring theirs round (which is a pain in the ass, carrying that huge thing.....lol) and we connect each one to play HALO....which rocks, in LAN.
No Xbox does it through fire wire I think USB is to slow it can only send 24MB per second
and fire wire can send like 75MB persecond or somthing like that and watashi A firewall is a shield of defense againt hackers all firewalls do is monitor all your ports and block people who are trying to connect to your comp

few things to say
1. the new model is not 75% lighter, its 75% smaller in internal volume
2. the new model ps2 does not have a i-link port :(
3. what the hell do you mean USB is to slow, people play games online with what 512Kb/s and often less, USB has a maximum transfer bandwidth of 12Mb/s and USB 2.0 has a maximum transfer bandwidth of 480Mb/s (that nearly 10x of the maximum bandwidth of a T3 line!)

but what do you think of it? the expansion bay of course it gone and it's so much cleaner...but it has a flip top so in actuality...it does not come out like a cd tray it comes out like a cd player, woohoo

I think its well designed apart from two things. The old PS2 actually requires less space to insert a disc than the new PS2. The flip-top lid kind of of takes away from the whole point of having reduced dimensions. The other thing is the lack of a HD bay. HD's are so small nowadays, just take the iPod HD for example (40GB!). Why don't they just use one of those? I guess it might just be because it would make it too expensive. This is going to be a real let down to any hardcore FFX1 players. When PS2 first came out in Japan it had a external HD bay and it kind of seems like regressing to have an external HD once again.

Thats a possibility I wouldnt rule out, however I believe it would anger people if the price was upped.
The smaller the better, they said it costs less to produce the smaller version.

actually I think the 'main' reason is because of the program called HD LOADER that alot of people have...maxtor and seagate made TONS OF MONEY out of HD Loader and sony lost out on alot of game money, so I think they didn't want an hdd slot for that :(
but there are now other ways posisbly

I am under the impression that they will be discontinuing the old version of PS2 soon.
That makes sense, just like they did with the original Playstation design.

The original PS2 (large), is £99.99 here in the UK (it's been this price for a while now).
The new PS2 will also be £99.99

No it is not more expensive -_-, The original PS2s are ALREADY discontinued, they're just continuing to send the rest of the products, companies send the products back because they want the newer version.

What really amazes me most is the fact that the new PS2 is the same height as 2 game boxes, and only slightly wider and longer than 1 game box.
You'll also notice that Xbox is a beast compared to the new PS2 :lol:

Do you not understand what a Hard Drive is for? Every computer has a hardrive in which every file that you ever save is saved directly on a hardrive. That is the reason alot of people wanted a hardrive right out of the box on the PS2...because they could save all their game files on 10-20gb of hardrive space without having to use a memory card that may only hold a few mb's. Yes they do allow for faster loading times but thats not their main purpose.

A harddrive is required for FFXI. If you wanted to play FFXI you couldn't do it on that PS2. You also couldn't get the updates for Socom and such.

I have a old ps2 and I wanted a new one but I could not fine one. There was a kid in the paper that was selling one for 600 dollars. I am going to traide in my old one and get a new one as soon as I can find one.

The new PS2 and PS3 are not comparable. The new PS2 is just a tiny PS2. Sony are basically targeting consumers who don't already own a PS2, or people who do a lot of moving about and what a more portable console.
PS3 is more than a year off and is a completely different device. If you want a PS2 and don't already have one then buy the new slim PS2. If you already have a PS2 and need to save every penny/cent to buy PS3, do that! Nevertheless, you can't just say don't buy the new PS2, wait for the PS3 instead because that’s an unsupported statement which makes no sense!

It doesn't have a fruity handle like the GameCube, so I won't get any sudden urges to pick it up and prance [that's right...prance] with it. The PStwo is about the size of a DVD case. :shock: When I put it in one spot...it's staying there!!! [unless I move it :suspect:]
£40 for a game cube here, so its worth picking one up and pranceing around... :lol:

We went off-topic for about 2 seconds. It's a thread about the new PStwo, and I was talking about how I'm getting a new PStwo. It's not a big deal, don't worry about it...
I got the slimmed down version cause my old PlayStation got busted and I bought MGS3 with it :D . Its complimented my console nicely. I like the new PS2 better, besides the fact that it doesn't have the expansion bay. It has the network adapter which is good enough to waste my time with. I do wish that it didn't have disc cover but maybe a slot drive would have been nice but probably would have added to the cost and weight.

Well i had the orginal then it only allowed certain unscratched disks to play then it just broke all together.. Then i got the new one for xmas which was cheaper rather then buying new of the orginal and also saved the boredom if i choose to wait for the ps3 to come out.. So buying this unbelivably cheap and new slimmer ps2 for $140 CND it was all good.. and the fact i could use all my ps1 and ps2 games on it, is all good.. Its also sooo much easier to carry/transport around. its like a hard cover book..
Now do we kno if this new ps3 will be that small? That cheap? And will run both ps1 and ps2 games on it?

I think the PStwo is like a tester for the PS3, like its styling and size. I thinks its a sort of market reasearch/more money scheme, you see they want to get the PS3 right on every level so the PStwo will sell if they like the styling size and all the other bits and show sony whether it needs to bring the PS3 out yet. If the PStwo does NOT sell it will show sony that the people arent with the styling and need new hardware to come out, this will show sony it needs to bring its PS3 out soon. This gives sony a clear idea of the market and makes it some money in the process. The PStwo isnt worth buying if you already have a PS2 and a network adapter, you would be better off saving your money for a PS3, because if no one buys the PStwo it will come out sooner than you think.
