View Full Version : Sub $600 HDTV 480p/720i/1080i LCD just got one for the hell of it..
Was in the market for a new Tv for the bedroom was looking to get about a 25-27 HDTV when I ran across this Insignia Tv from bestbuy for $599.99
Couple of things, I have 3 HDTV's a Mitsubishi, a Sony and now this Insignia and I can tell you without a doubt this is a GREAT 32" LCD HDTV for gaming and TV. The sound is Excellent and the crispness is GREAT for the price point. It does 480i/480p/720p/1080i has HDMI and 2 component videos.
For XBOX 360 and PS3 the image quality is pretty damn good almost indistinguishable from my 1000.00 Sony Wega. The original default colors needed a slight bit of tweaking to get to my liking, but I have to give this TV a Big thumbs up for any budget conscious gamer.
While it does not do support 1080p that might scare off some of you, but for 599.99 and Bestbuy even has some specials where you can get 100-400 off if you buy direct TV or Cable through them so I would recommend this set!
While the silver color is not HI-TECH enough for some the TV in person looks better than the site shows and the cables hide away nicely!
Hope you find this useful...
Oh and for those wondering WHO the hell Insignia is they are SHARP. Insignia is the brand Best Buy has them make for them for retail sales..
Here is a lint to the system and specs.

yeah Im hopefully selling my old tv and getting a little cash I have saved up to get this.
Wow... I bought a 599.99 HDTV from Samsung exactly a year ago - it can do the same resolutions but its not great. I want one!!! Hah I still need surround sound though, don't even have that.
Well after playing with it all night, I bet you year old does not have HDMI, Built in DTV (Great for satellite owners!!!), NEARLY as good of Sound Quality and more.. LOL just wanted to let you know there is a GOOD CHEAP HDTV out there. You just need to be able to sit back about 8-10 feet from the TV do to the size. Up close you see the pixels more but with any larger tv you see that.

I picked up a Toshiba Regza 32HL66 32" today. I went with the Toshiba because my cousin who I get all my goods from at the appliance place states they have trouble getting the Olevia's serviced, and I've always had very good luck with Toshibas, and it has a great picture. I picked up the Toshiba, and a Samsung DVD-HD860 DVD player. Perfect fit for the Den.

No that Olevia does 1080i also, I own an Olevia and they are FANTASTIC sets. The only thing about that particular model I don't know if I like is that it appears to be a Custom model for Circuit City, the Normal series are the 3, 5, and 7 series

Beware Zap2 that that 27 incher is a 1080i set and so it'll only display 480p from the PS3....FYI.

Another way to find a rebate is buy off shelf stuff. They will give hundreds of dollars off if its already opened and then if its scratched they mark it down even more.

I got a $500 HDTV that does 720p/1080i. It is a viewsonic pc monitor and also have s-video, two composite video and the HDTV component video input as well a tv tuner.
You can always pick up a Philips refurb. They are shipped free and come with good warranty. They are decent TVs, but not the best. At the price though, they are great.
299 for a 30 inch 1080i cant be beat. And 399 with a built in HDTV tuner.

Or you can get their LCDs and plasmas for about 899 and up for a 37 inch.

I won't buy another insignia tv EVER. I bought a 32" Insignia lcd, and it died 9 months later...it would get REALLY hot and the picture would turn green. A buddy who bought the exact same model had the power supply on his die TWICE. I swapped mine out for a Toshiba (i paid for the extra warranty) and never looked back. It might've been just that particular model, but it put me off from buying that brand ever again.

Not a good idea to buy a TV from brands that you have never heard of eg. Pansonic, and the other dodgy brands. Only buy quality brands like Sony, LG, Phillips, Toshiba, Pionear, etc.
last year i got a 27" Citizen LCD for 700 720p/1080i its pretty good i had the change the colours around but for gaming its magnificent i bet its like 499 now so its a good snag for like a bedroom or soemthing

You can get some good brand named FULL 1080p tv's these days for under a grand. This 40" Sony Bravia is only £858 with free delivery where the RRP is £1399.99, which is a steal if you ask me. I got a 720p 32" Samsung last year for the same price, Just shows how prices plummet on electronics these days.

I currently have this in my room...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8250144&type=product&id=1169512290376
...picked it up a couple of months back and I love it. When I picked it up it was on sale for $580. The great thing is that it's a great size plus it has more than enough connections. Two HDMI's, two component, 2 s-video/video, and a VGA port gives you planty of plugs for all your entertainment needs. ^_^ I currently have my pc hooked up to it and it's 1366 x 768 resolution of freakin' awesome! Great TV, great price, great picture quality. My 360 games look outstanding. HD cable programming is terrific, especially sports broadcast. It's just a great, great thing. ^_^

Sorry for the double post, this site seems to crap out on occasion. O_o
I got my Samsung LN-T 4065f model (refux) on amazon.com with 4 year service warranty for $1350 free shipping and no tax. I think Samsung LN-T xx65f series is good enough for gaming, Blu-Ray, DVD, and HD-TV.
What a well-timed thread for me. Just 3 days ago I picked up my first hdtv at Best Buy, and you won't believe the deal I got on it. It was a shelf tv that was returned merely because it was too big for the customers room, it didn't have any kinks or defects, it was simply too big for the previous owners room.
Anyway I was lucky to stumble in there on that day because they just put it out and omg I couldn't believe the deal, it was as if they were half giving it away. For a mere 550$ I got a 720p/1080i, 34' inch widescreen Sony Xbr Wega with hdmi/componant connect with an interal hdtv tuner for free HD television over the air. I could hardly believe my eyes, then I looked at the mark down (jawdrops) it was previously 850$!, an amazing 300$ mark down! I didn't have to look anywhere else because I knew the next best cheapest thing was a value hdtv, a 30 inch insignia for over 600$ and 400$ for the lowest of them all, a 27inch (non-widescreen) with no hdmi and no hdtv turner.
Not only is this Sony T.V. not a mere value TV; it was the exact opposite of that, it was actually literally the cream of the crop, the best you could get, state of the art for its day and consists of technology that is still being used in new TV's.
I asked the bestbuy guy, "How is this possible? What is wrong with it?" He said they were just trying to get rid of it because Sony's plans are evolving and tube hdtv's are on their way out. Mind you, the thing is huge and 275 pounds, but the picture quality of this tube hdtv (as is well known) is actually generally superior compared to all those Plasma/LCD/DLP flatpanels. The picture is better than I could of hoped, I love the thing!
Can you believe majorly lesser and smaller hdtv's costing around the same as or even more than this 34inch beast?
BEST DEAL OUT OF ANY PRODUCT I HAVE EVER PURCHASED!!!!
Think about that:
Sony Insignia
-34inch XBR, 720p/1080i= $550 VS. -30 inch, only 1080i= $600+
whoops sorry for the double post.

Ive found an awesome HDTV 37" for the same price equivalent ( I live in UK ) from argos.co.uk ;) , getting it for xmas :)
I just bought a Philips 42'' PFL7422 HDTV and it's the cheapest FULL HD tv that I could find. It has good picture quality, 1080p signals support on all HD ports, and a budget price. The design's not as elegant as Samsung or Sony but it gets the job done well. I played the movie 300 on Blu-ray using my PS3 and it looks great to my eyes. Those who wants to get this tv, just be sure to tweak it a lil first. The factory default settings are terrible.
For you Americans, here's the link to a refurbished one and it's only $999: http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/productdetail.do?productguid=4328965C3ACA008E00000 000828BD47245D7B622FFD8022600000000828BD4B2&productarea=4328965C3ACA008E00000000828BD472&scenario=catalog&shop=OUTLET

Not sure how they do things down under but Consumer Reports has Panasonic as the most reliable LCD and Plasma manufacturer ahead of all of the others you mentioned. In fact, Phillips averages 2x as many repairs as Panasonic in LCDs and 4x as many in Plasmas.

Pioneer is overpriced junk... $5000 for a 50 inch 720p with 400 contrast ratio!!!
That said, I don't even like the Panasonic plasmas (I never liked the design of them, and their contrast just seems too low) Plus their prices are pretty high ($4000 for the 58 inch 1080p)
So I bought a Samsung plasma, and it is absolutely AMAZING! 58 inch 1080p and 15000 contrast for $3000!

EVERYONE - don't waste your money buying an HDTV from any store - retail or online. Look in local papers, classifieds, craigslist FIRST and see if you can find anyone who is selling BRAND NEW IN THE BOX TVs (probably stolen) and buy one - just make sure the box is sealed and before you buy open it and make sure everything is present and accounted for (ie manuals, remote, etc). I got a BRAND NEW, never used, never opened, 37" Sharp Aquos (the brand new model for that year) for $700 cash.

I got a Niko for $450 in early 2006. I don't who or what niko is but the tv does 720p/1080i and it has dvi input and component inputs.. the only thing it doesn't have is HDCP compliance so I have to use component cables for my ps3.. But even the component cables display at 720p.

I'm all for buying stuff on the cheap when it's possible. As for buying stolen stuff, aside from moral concerns, by buying stuff that you know is stolen, you perpetuate the cycle of theivery. How would you like it if somebody came and stole your new HDTV?
