Now, I too am wondering how 5th element looks. Also, seriously, how does BHD look and sound?

The sound is incredible *IF* you have the equipment to support it, which 90%+ of people don't. The video quality is great, much better than standard DVD.

The 5th Element is ranked at the bottom of the list for picture quality, it reallly is a poor transfer.

Blu-ray can look anywhere from spectacular to barely better than a DVD. There is a HUGE variance in quality between the titles. And 5th Element is one of the WORST looking titles on the format.

From High def Digest's best/worst high-def releases of the year list -- http://www.highdefdigest.com/feature_best_high_def_discs_of_2006.html:

"THE FIFTH ELEMENT
Easily the most reviled next-gen release ever, Sony was greeted with a chorus of very loud boos for its Blu-ray launch title 'The Fifth Element.' Lack of features aside, the real killer was a poor print laced with dirt and other artifacts you wouldn't even expect to see on a VHS tape. Rumor has it Sony will be remastering and reissuing this one soon. Wise move. "

So, WAIT and see if Sony does do a remaster, because I've seen the title and I've seen better looking DVDs.

If you want to know how good the quality of the blu-ray movie is, check out this website. They seem to know a handful about picture quality.
kingdom of heaven and black hawk down are supposedly the top in pq for blu-ray.

I was in a department store yesterday with a blu-ray display. They had a tv displaying fantastic four in 1080p. It was mind blowing. My mum who is not into that sort of stuff much was also blown away with the picture quality. Now she want's a Sony Bravia LCD 1080p tv with blu-ray player as well 8)

At the local Circuit City there are a couple of TVs set up with a Blu-ray demo disk running which shows what Blu-ray can do and how it is differen't then DVD. At one point in the demo, half the screen is at Blu-ray quality while the other half is at DVD quality. It plays the same scene at the same time, and you can tell a BIG difference.

I have no idea how the fifth element is #2. I saw that movie and I thought it was absolutely horrible.

The PQ in that movie is GREAT! A lot of people use that movie as a demo for PQ on their setups...

If you're referring to The 5th Element, then I have to disagree.

I've seen it and the picture quality is horrible. Most reviewers on the net feel the same way.

I reeeeeeeeaaaalllllllllllyyyyyy hope that was a joke.

The Fifth Element is widely known to be one of the worst PQ titles on Blu-Ray or HD DVD. I've got DVD's with better overall PQ. I bought it because I like the movie, but I was VERY disappointed in the PQ.

If you head over to AVS forums, they use a TON of the close up facial shots to show off a setup and it works out well. I'm not talking about the whole entire movie...some people need to calm down...

yeah, according to the avs guide on blu-ray pq, The Fifth Element is one of the worst movies in terms of quality. it is a "Tier 4- A bit underwhelmed
Visible artifacting, softness, few if any 3D effects" movie:???:

Okay...just for YOU I will dig up some links...On second thought. I'm not going to dig around older threads (A lot of them were in the front projector forums)...

Whatever...

Anyways...I'm a little lost. I was just ordering some BR and HD DVD titles on Amazon (for pre order) and I noticed that T2 was being re released??? I decided to order it (since it was hella cheap).

I just wanted to ask if anyone here knew if its a re release...

They used close up shots of Mila Jova.....whatever her name is and yeah they look decent, they show good color and definition. HOWEVER, the movie's picture quality as a whole is probably the single worst movie on Blu-Ray with House of Flying Daggers coming in at a close second. I would NEVER put in either of those two movies to demo Blu-Ray for someone who hadn't seen it. I own both of them because I like the movies, but I would have never bought them if it wasn't for the Buy.com/Google checkout deal.

edit: yeah, that first one you posted is the one I'm talking about.

The first pic is used a lot over there...that's all I ment...There is that pic and the pic of the scene where she jumps and all the cabs are going by in the city (A few other random scenes as well)...Only certain parts look good...the rest are fairly poor...

Yea I saw that to! It was pretty cool to see the distinctions between each. Definitely gives you a big clue on why the Blu-Ray format is so great. BTW has anyone seen anything really concerning HD-DVD? I have yet too see any displays in stores or that many movie titles on shelves for that matter. I'm not trying to turn this into a flame post but just wondering about how the competition is fairing cuz to me I definitely see Blu-Ray being pushed alot more.

that's awesome. I had no idea there were that many Blu Ray movies out there. But the end of next year there should be at least a 1000 movie available for blu ray...

Has anyone noticed a quality change with the release of 50gb Blu-Rays firsthand?

Is that going to be the max number of layers for movies now, or will players accept 4-8 layer discs?

I've seen the demo disk, and I can honestly say that compression artifacts were visible, but this could be just on the demo disk and not feature length movies...

Saw a dinasaur cartoon movie playing at B.B. and it looked superb (dunno the name).

Superman Returns is at the top of the list? I'm surprised, I heard it wasn't very good from several people. I haven't seen it myself, nor do I want to, but I didn't know it was so well-received.

with House of Flying Daggers coming in at a close second.

That's so true... Oh, MAN, House of Flying Daggers looked so ugly on bluray... So much artifacting... And that's what Sams club had showing off the machine... It was really embarassing... It's almost like they were payed off by microsoft...

Kidding, don't kill me!

It was universal that payed them off.
