When I put a movie in my ps3 , whether is be a bluray or a dvd, it plays it with a pinkish purple tint to it. The best way to describe it is it looks liek your are in a cloud or fog. My ps3 plays great and looks great. It goes up to 1080i but I play at 720p. As far as this, it seems like it is a setting that needs to be adjusted. Any ideas what is causing this?

Did you verify whether this was an issue with your PS3. In order to do so, plug another devise into the TV, preferably using the same connection (HDMI, or whatever), then try to play the same media. This way you can tell if it's your PS3 or TV that's screwed up. If it's your TV, you might just need to adjust the settings. I kinda doubt your PS3 would be creating an error like that (corrupt files and jagged pixels are one thing, but purple tint?), but if your research shows that it is the PS3, call Sony up and see what they have to say.

That looks very odd. That it's happening only with movies is even odder.

Have you tried things like copying other media files over to the PS3, and playing those? Playing the PS3 through other output devices?

Does it do this with EVERY movie, or only some?

Have you checked for settings relating to movie playback?

First question would be, is this the first time you have used that input socket on your TV?

If so, this could just be a case of your TV having very poor factory default settings.

EVERY new HDTV that is shipped comes with default image settings, and I guarantee you that they will all need adjustment to get the best colour balances and image accuracies. I've known of people oblivious to the poor quality of their screen's output until they were calibrated by friends months after they were purchased, and their entire High Definition viewing experience was transformed.

The settings made are saved per connection on the TV.

If this is relevant to your issue, you may want to consider getting hold of a consumer TV calibration DVD called "Digital Video Essentials". Search for it on amazon.

Thank you guys for all of your responses.

CB515- I honestly have not played it much at all so I doubt it is overheating. This happens even if I turn it on and play a movie right away.

ASGERAS- I have a regular dvd player hooked up and it seems to work fine. Always has. I use component cables though since it doesnt have hdmi inputs.

Seebs - I have only tried two movies (one bluray and one dvd) and it seems to be both. What other output devices would you reccomend? I dont have any other hd tv's so im not to sure. Also, how would I check my settings related to movie playback? Please let me know. I am gonna play with it for a few minutes and get back to you guys. Thank you for all the help!!

I think there's some settings in the PS3's menu.

Try other DVDs. If you have other DVD players, check them with the TV, even if they have to use composite or S-video.

Try the PS3, to the same TV, using the AV cable it came with (plain old composite).

Your goal here is to try to narrow it down as much as possible. Is it just the PS3? Is it just DVDs? Is it only the HDMI connector, not the regular composite connector? Any time you can narrow things down, you can come closer to an answer. You might find that the TV has video settings which are different for movie playback than for video game playback (maybe the movie runs at a different resolution, which makes it adopt its "movie" settings, which may be screwed up).

I got it!! Thank you guys. I had it set to hdmi video output for dvd/br but i needed to change it to RGB (i think that was what it said). this is because I am using a hdmi-dvi cable. Now I gotta go figure out how to plug my memory card in and see the photos on there. That shouldnt be to hard. Just gotta do some manual reading. Do you guys have any tips on getting the ps3 to see your memory card? Right now it recognizes it but it says it is empty. When I put it in my computer is pulls up everything on it.

The only thing I've ever put on a memory card was a PS3/otheros folder, so I don't know what it's going to be looking for. I honestly haven't tried anything else; I have very little interest in putting pictures on it, so I've ignored it.

Honestly, I feel the same way. The important stuff is now working so Im happy. The only reason I wanted to try the pictures is that someone told me the ps3 displays them nicely. If I understood correctly they kind of fall from the sky. Anyway, ill figure it out and let u guys know if I like it. Thank you for the help!

I had the same problem with my external hdd, I'm not sure if it will work in your case but try pressing triangle and choose "display all".

Try copying the files to the computer and then formatting the memory card with the PS3, then copy the files back onto the memory card from the computer.
