It has been my understanding that Disney put their support behind blu-ray for their movie releases. The question this raises for me is does this also apply to Pixar as well? The Pixar movies are kinda the killer-app for me, and I'd be absolutely thrilled if they too were coming to blu-ray. :)

Pixar broke off from Disney a little while ago. However, my understanding is that Pixar goes where Apple goes. So, yeah, it is a high probability.

Oh silly me! I forgot all about that!

Pixar, right now, is independent. They broke off from Disney in early 2004.

Actually, Disney recently bought them back, and now Pixar is a subsidiary again.

Steve Jobs is the highest share holder at Disney and is the main man at Apple.

I got a feeling Disney AND Pixar will do as Apple do.

A lot of misconceptions going on here. Pixar was an independent studio but they were under contract to Disney. Pixar was looking at canceling their contract with Disney and joining up with another studio, so Disney bought Pixar out with a stock trade. Jobs had the most shares of Pixar, so he is now the single largest shareholder of Disney stock and is on the board of directors.

Disney now has a Blu-ray site. There hasn't been any news specifically about Pixar releases on Blu-ray but they have quite a long list of movies on 50GB Blu-ray beginning in 2007. They are releasing some classic Disney titles in Blu-ray that have only previously had limited VHS releases, never making it to DVD. Pixar titles will probably start showing up later in the year.

Sounds like good news to me! Disney is pretty big, and to have them support BluRay is awsome.

When did this happenned? AFAIK it was the other way around, i thought that Disney bought the rest of Pixar.

In the case of the Blu-ray support, apple is part of the blu-ray group.

So all the major CGI animations are Blu-ray exclusive? That's quite a boon.

actually, I prefer Pixar and Disney separated. I hate pixar very very much!!! (while I love disney very much). Disney movies with pixar logo on it, I DON'T LIKE THEM ALL.
I prefer Disney to work alone.

Toy Story 1 & 2, Finding Nemo, and the Incredibles are going to be incredible on Blu-Ray. I hope Pixar gives mention to the possible release dates of these titles.

PS3 gaming, disney family, pixar animation.

That's some freaky strong PS3 triple play family combo. I've known familes that swear by disney, and moive buffs by pixar.

I wonder if Sony might not push some kind of multimedia combo.

PS3 + free rebates to Disney/pixar BD movies + whatever else Disney might do on the network side(on demand movies/shows?)

Just for kicks and in KH3.

But anyway, Disney is a strong ally to have.

Abso'blooming'lutely! I can't wait to see Nemo on spanking new 1080p screen. I'm sure that either of the formats would have done it [Nemo] and the other movies justice, but it's nice to know that once I have the PS3, I have the power to enjoy HD movies right away!

Pixar was bought by Disney. Pixar is now a division of the Walt Disney Company.
