...in May 2008 in conjunction with Pirates 3 release
that's it, it's all over
http://dvd.themanroom.com/dvd-newsview.php?id=430
Headlining the list is confirmation both 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films will go high-def sometime in May, just in time for the 'At End's World' marketing machine to kick into high gear.
Backing up a couple months, Buena will release 'Chicken Little' and 'Finding Neverland' on March 20; 'King Arthur Director's Cut' and 'G.I. Jane' on April 3; 'Con Air,' 'Crimson Tide' and 'The Rock' on June 8; and 'Cars,' 'The Recruit' and 'Open Range' sometime this summer, i.e. presumably July or August. 'Cars' marks the first Pixar film to bow on Blu-ray, opening what could be a flood of additional titles heading into the holiday 2007 shopping season.

I can't wait for Cars, Pirates and Ghost in the Shell...Man this year is going to be crazy for movies...My collection has grown rather quickly since I got my PS3 and HD DVD player....
Well, I guess all that's needed now is for George Lucas to announce Staw Wars on Blu-ray and that really will be the final nail in the HD-DVD coffin. I have to say, I'm looking forward to a lot of those movies on that list in glorious 1080p!

AGREED. Star Wars is going to be a big impact on the format war. All Blu-ray needs is that last straw to break hd-dvds back. After searching on that topic, it looks like a greater chance of the saga coming to Blu-ray, rather than HD-DVD. I would be really pissed if it did come to HD-DVD.....
As much as people think that George is the be all and end all of star wars it is as simple as this.
It is Fox who distribute the film, and fox will not allow their films to go onto anything other than Blu Ray.
Oh and George has fewer rights over the original trilogy.
It's Blu Ray for star wars.
Like I said in another post.
What war?

you mean blu-ray right? as they are exclusive to blu-ray...
Damn, Disney is coming down hard in the paint! WOOT! I saw personally about eight titles in there that are must-haves :)
Oh man, Pirates of the Caribbean is the must have on Blu-ray. I will buy it on release! :D

Yes - this is what I meant.

Because they like to drip feed us, and with those aforementioned titles they are pre digital era mostly and those that have been transfered onto digital copy won`t improve that much if re-re-released onto BD. Hence you have the Leathal weapon movies selling cheap.:?:DD

Im a huge fan of pirates, especially the first, and i couldnt resist buying it on UMD when it comes out on bluray i might as well camp out for it lol. Hopefully this wont be a crap price at 30 bucks and be around 20 bucks, i hate those movies that are good and you get all excited and then "o here it is for 10 bucks over everything else" lol
Ill buy those two movies, 1 and 2, and then reserve number 3 on the same day! Then ill get spiderman 3 reserved also, if im not sitting in line to see it. :)
edit:Also its may 2007 not 2008 lol.

Out of interest would cartoons look any better in HD?

If the cartoon is CG then it probably will since some of them have dust blowing through the air, or even put work into the charecter to look like a real person. Usuelly CGI is made with HD processing, most video games are (the cutscenes)
As for just plain animation probably not, unless its a really new cartoon with alot of detail it will probably look the same. Mabe brighter colors or something.

They say the new DBZ that is currently being redone will be 1080P but i still don't see how cartoons can look any different.... Maybe it is just brighter colours like you mentioned

Lmao... its a sure thing that it's gonna be on Blue Ray too. =). I'm gonna laugh at anyone who's gonna say it's going to HD-DVD first ^^ [*cough* Sony *cough*]. Like posted before, if Spider-Man 3 BRD bundles w/ the Ps3 (taking out Ricky) it'll definitely boost some sales. Speaking of which, waiting for Spider-Man 3 is like waiting for all the ps3 games coming ><!! Patience is a virtue I s'pose .
