Just got back from best buy for a little Blu-Ray buying with some B-Day money and was hoping I could pick up the new Sopranos on BD, holy crap was I shocked when I saw the price tag, 119.99, remember this is for only HALF of the new season, am I the only one that thinks this is just RIDICULOUS. Are we going to be seeing this for a while because if that is the way it's gonna be I will save my DVD player for TV seasons, multidiscs, etc. I kind of, sort of got over the fact that movies themselves on BD are 10.00 to 20.00 more expensive than their DVD counterparts but the Sopranos thing just freaked me out, is HD-DVD the same way, this is the only TV show on BD as of now correct? Let me get some feedback homies!

4 discs, 12 episodes = 3 episodes per disc...kind of skimpy imo

lame what's the point of the extra space then.. if hd-dvd can do the same thing then surely blu-ray has extra space to burn....
That is expensive for that little.
I tend to buy lots of box sets, Anime box sets though, and the max I usually dish out is $60-70 for that many episodes. I remember my first box set (a set of VHS 8 or 10 tapes for $100-something, anime VHS was $30 each for 2-3 eps back then), now I get dvds.
And hopefully in the future Blu-ray sets if they have them.... but if it's that much. I think I will wait till it goes down.
I assume that it's due to the fact that Blu-ray is new, and they probably added lots of extras? I'm kind of clueless on why it's so expensice.

Looks like they are charging the typical price per disc, 25$ or so. Its funny, I know the wholesale price on those and it isn't nearly as bad, so search around, you can find it cheaper.

I posted this in another thread...
I'd still buy it...Amazon is your friend and box sets drop in price. I was looking at the MI box set and when it first came out, it was $120 CND....I just bought it last week (HD DVD) for $79 CND (The BR version was the same price)...
And its still a new format. I bet you don't remember what regular SD DVDs colsted when they first came out...You gotta pay to play...
Does anyone rember how expensive DVDs were when they first came out? Im certainly no fan of the high prices on the HD formats, but they are not without precedent.

I do, and I agree but if the studios want to move blu-ray/hd-dvd into the general household this is not the way to do it, plus if you are telling me that 129.99 is just normal for HALF a season that is retarted and you sir are the same....

Well, when DVDs first came out $39.99 was a general price for most discs, and any disc labeled special edition. The range, though was anywhere from $29.99 to $49.99 retail (most were 29-39). And the first players were $1000 + (actualy my first two players were $1000, but there were cheaper players out there when I got my second). But back then, DVDs major competitor was the aging laserdisc format, on which movies cost anywhere from $39.99 to hundreds of dollars for some special editions. Take into account inflation, and Blu-ray looks pretty reaosnable.
As for Sopranos, it just seems unreasonable to me. A retail price of $89-99, and an Amazon price of $59-69 would have made the most sense, but that's what they're trying to get for the regular DVD version! The Blu-ray version actually only lists at 20% higher, which seems about right proportionally, they're just milking all the video version for all they can get. I say Tivo it off HBO until they get their act together.
You're right there is space to burn... the reason is it was also released on HD-DVD so it was authored with that in mind. Yes there is wasted space on the BD but they got to maintain the menus and...

are you serious!?!? i was supprised when i found it for $90, lol. I dont like the show, but when i found it, i was suprised (i was looking for Superman Returns when i found it) They will probably all be higher when they come out, and decrease as time goes on, lol. :-)
