HDMI 1.3 is a big deal to some people, for some reason.....What makes it so bad is that all the abilities of HDMI 1.3 are optional. So it is possible to have a TV that has HDMI1.3 inputs but not support deep color. Or it could "support" deep color but not display deep color. Or maybe it supports deep color but it doesn't support the higher bandwidth i.e 100hz 1080P. HDMI1.3 is no guarantee of anything it is simply the pipe. For the vast majorities of those cases the pipe will be half empty and could have been handled by HDMI1.2 or less but marketing sells.

The same thing applies to the audio department. You can have an HDMI1.3 receiver that does no audio processing (it just passes the 1.3 signal). You can slo have an HDMI 1.3 receiver than only handles PCM. Or it does handle compressed audio formats but it only handles 6 channel PCM while another HDMI 1.2 receiver can handle 8 channel PCM.

It is a really great marketing point though. Expect 2007 to be the year of HDMI 1.3. My prediction is everything will have it even the crappy Apex SD DVD player. Why because it is hyped and it "must be good". The sad thing is that if even knowledgeable people like those on AVS and PS3 forums are falling for the hype... it will be forced down your throat my places like BestBuy and TV makers.

HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs dont even have "deep colour" on them, and neither does TV signals. The compression used for HD DVD and Blu-ray allows for under 16bit colour, and 16bit colour is "deep colour", so you wont even be getting that. I know a lot of you have fallen for it already, "Im waiting for HDMI 1.3". For some.. yes, its good, but for most, its useless.

i count it as the potential that counts, just because they dont, doesn't mean they wont. :-)

Only somewhat true, the potential for a lot of what 1.3 offers is here NOW and most people arent even using 1.2a to its fullest! So your right but your also kind of wrong about the potential and its general use. Not all TVs that come out the whole time HDMI 1.3 is available and new will actually use it to its fullest, same with audio recievers. And Blu-ray and HD DVDs arent planning on using it yet at all, no news on that what so ever. And there is no way they are going to redo movies they already released last year and this year with "deep colour".

how can i be wrong, i didn't state anything..? anyways, i did say potential, they could change all that *in the future* you know :-) i've never personally seen future proofing as a bad thing, lol.

HDMI 1.3 is no more "future proof" than any other format. Future proof is a moot point these days, technology moves so fast that nothing is going to be top of the line for any longer than a few months. There's always going to be something better just around the corner, it's just some people, like Reflex and myself, are able to see through the smoke and mirrors that are being put up and take full advantage of the technology available NOW and enjoy the hell out of it. I'm waiting for the next best thing too, but that doesn't mean I'm going to settle for mediocrity until it's available.

Man, everyone is against me, lol. I didn't say it would last forever, you guys seem to take it beyond what i even said/ment. By "future-proofing" all i ment is what you said, but in a different way, i ment it would last longer by putting in not - yet used features, not that it would become what we use forever, lol. You're twisting my words, whats with all of you..!? You seem to have some hatred for me/ grudge against me, lol.

No, your just assuming we are against you, when we are not attacking you at all. This is just the basics here. Wanting to deliver the goods to people, not the hype and misconceptions.
