I got my 60GB PS3 yesterday evening, and when I got home one of the first things I tried to do first was get online. My dad has a PC upstairs which is hooked up to a Wireless Access Point Router. I'm assuming this is all I need to use my PS3's Wi-Fi to play online. Two other PCs downstairs are linked to this router, if that matters.

So when I go into Network settings to set it up, I enter the WEP and choose all the default options in the list they gave me (including Do No Use for proxy server). I choose automatic when they ask for IP address and stuff (I did not enter in my IP address, DNS, etc, into that screen). And so when I run the Connection test, it fails because the IP address couldn't be located. The error number is 80029024.

The router is across the entire house and then up a level, so maybe it's just a signal problem. Or, does anyone know if I should enter all the info at the IP address screen manually? I don't know how to find my Primary/ Secondary DNS or the router number they ask for. Any insight to this problem would be much appreciated.

Try to find out what IPs you are using in your LAN (usually 192.168.0.x, so try setting your ip to 192.168.0.55 for instance, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 I think (it usually fills it in automatically), and then the IP address of the server/access point in your lan (usually 192.168.0.1)). Your ISP (Internet service provider) can tell you what your DNS-servers are.

EDIT: I found out my DNS servers by entering "IPCONFIG /ALL | MORE" into the command prompt.

Also, the third thing it asks for is "Router". How do I find this?

Okay, I've tweaked some stuff and I've gotten the IP address to work, but now it can't connect to the internet because it says an error occured while resolving the name with the server (80710102). Does anyone know what this means?

A 80710102 error means the PS3 can't find a DNS server. During the IP setup part, enter 4.2.2.1 as the Primary DNS and 4.2.2.2 as the Secondary DNS. Router is the IP address of your router which is probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

is there a way to get a good connection to a pretty weak network in the area that has no security with the 60GB?

I tried softtack's suggestion, but I get the same error. Perhaps it's more of a router problem. I'll call Sony tomorrow.

maybe the router is out of range for the ps3, in my opinion, wired Ethernet the way to go.

w00t! I called Sony and the representative was able to fix my problem. I'm signing up for a network account now, but I'm not 18. Is it okay if I just "make" myself 18, or should I really use my parents' info?
