Hey adam, you being a GTA fan, what do you think of GTA coming to 360 along with the PS3?
*Adam Ba4e making an address in the Oval Office*
My fellow members of PS3Forums.com as Moderator of PS3Forums.com for the last few years the Xbox owners have had an URGE to play Grand Theft Auto at the same time that Playstation owners do - and that urge is strong.
Today we are a forum awakened and we feel grief to the Xbox owners need to play such a great game as GTA. Our grief has turned to anger, and anger to resolution. Whether we bring our counterparts the honorof playing Grand Theft Auto. (Applause.)
I thank the SMC for its leadership at such an important time. All of PS3Forums was touched on the evening of the wonder to see Xbox 360 and PS3 owners joined together on the steps of the Capitol, singing "God Bless PS3Forums." And you did more than sing; you acted, by delivering Xbox 360 owners the ability to play GTA at the same time as the PS3 owners. I, Moderator Adam Ba4e would like to wish you all well and God bless PS3Forums.

I cant wait for the GTA4. I almost had a heart attack when i heard that Xbox 360 was only going to get it, but thanks to rockstar i didn't. Anyway I would love to see full customizing on the main character, ton and tons and tons of sweet cars, lots and lots of clothes, big buildings, damagable buildings/surroundings, car wrecks are realistic (I liked the car damage on the clip for 8 days), tons of new guns, better/realistic GORE, really fun mini games, and I would like to see the new controllers turning ability in planes.
I also think that it is cool that games right now haven't been taking full use of the PS3's abilitys, and the games are still freaking awsome. Just like if you were to play an old PS2 game and it seams crappy, but if you play a new release it looks so awsome. It will probably be like that, but better with the PS3. Thats all I have to say for now, but I'll think of others later.

There is just too many XBox fanboys there, and when you want to check out some news on a PS3 exclusive title like Assassin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5 or Devil May Cry 4 they all open topics and start to whine, "Take that Sony", "It must be in development for the 360", "X game on 360 is better than Y on PS3" and so on. I hope I could grab each one of those people and beat the c*** out of em'. I mean shut up, you won't get these games on X360, deal with it for christ sake.

Nice speech Adam. Have you been watching the West Wing?
I always liked how GTA came out first on PS. It made my Xbox friends jealous. But knowing that the PS3's capabilities are better than 360's, I could care a less that we're getting it at the same time.
It still bothers me...the Xbox 360 getting it on the same day as the Playstation 3...sony didn't do the right thing this time
I'm not caring if they get it, i'm just worried that with the 360's limitations that Rockstar won't make it as good as if it was made specially for PS3.

If it bothered me that much i would'nt have a GTA themed sig that has an Xbox logo in it

That's what i'm scared of
R* won't compromise GTA for the Xbox 360. I think all the PS3 heads out there have it mind that GTA4 was going to be a huge 30GB whopper of a game. The more I read about all this online stuff the more I think that the GTA we will ALL go out and buy next year will just be the start of things. Over time R*North will make HUGE additions to it that will be downloadable. Imagine it like this. you go out and buy GTA4, its just one city with a bit of countryside round it. 6 months later R* release another section that you download, it makes the map bigger and gives this world another city and more landscape, and so on and so on until after a few years you quite literally have a whole world. not only do I think this is possible, I think this will be quite likely.
We'll see.

Well, you never sees to amaze me :P.
I hope Rockstar will take advantage of the Ps3 having a HDD as standard on every PS3...unlike the 360. For graphics, and for the gameplay too...let's hope it!

I've been waiting for this game since last Autumn, when it was being speculated that the game would be out late 2006. But its been put back to late 2007.... :|

i think they should do the GTA in Liberty City again, and have it during the holiday season. a bunch of different gangs celebrating different beliefs and what not... holiday shoppers, people robbing stores. and a drunk santa would make the game well worth it :P
plus snow would be crazy hard to drive in, and black ice.

The big location rumor on the new GTA is that its set in London, or some European city. Personally, I'd like to revisit Vice City, but hey, thats why their coming out with Vice City Stories. Also, the music is extremely important. Check out my signature to see what I want to see in the next entry. PS Rockstar, don't make it so rap heavy like San Andreas. Somehow they forgot that Alternative came out in the '90's

I think a lot of people lost a lot of posts when the Mods decided to delite all the old stickies.
How Irresponsible and stupid of them! They should all be fired!
Off Topic: I agree with you Silas. I'm so angry at that move by whoever deleted all those huge topics for no reason at all. First off, that takes away countless posts from the members here who spent time doing so with history being lost. It eats away at the total articles posted count, and just takes away a piece at this great forum. I was horrified when those stickys were gone after they got locked (again, I have no idea why they got locked in the first place). I think this was one of the biggest mistakes PS3forums has done to date. I'm still trying to figure out why on earth they got deleted. It was horrible.
If that happened on my forum (I don't have one), I would recover those topics as fast as possible and deal with who did it. I PM'd PBM about this awful occurence. He will get back to me after E3 is done (It's already done). I hope Rebon/Morph has those topics stored somewhere safe.
Actually, nitrous (or "boost" as you called it) was introduced in GTA: SA. There were also plenty of fast cars available in that game. The Turismo was my favorite.
On Topic: Umm...this is the first time I heard of nitrous in GTA:SA :? . I want video clips of this. Remember, I have not played GTA:SA yet (I need to soon for sure). I call it "Boost" because I can't spell nitrous right and it's from burnout too.

Man I love the fact that GTA is coming to the PS3 but why is it coming out so late. Damn 2007 is a very long time and October 2007 is tooooo long in my book. Majority of people are going to forget about tha game later this year thats what kills me.

Just think of it this way. When you get your PS3 this year you will be playing fun games to pass the time quickly like assassins creed, MGS4, etc. Then before you know it GTA4 will be out.

I think Jamaica or Mexico would both be awesome places to be featured in GTA IV. With all the drug trafficing, gang violence, and differing scenery I think these locations would provide an immersive experience. You've got cityscapes, jungle, beaches/ocean, language/dialect, weather, etc.
What do you guys/girls think?
I think they have to make an island groop and each Island has to be different. ONe big Island in the middle with a city, and the islands arounnd it are tropical Islands...snow/ski- Islands etc make something up...

Yo I'm back, Mr Turnip I havn't had more than 7 posts doe just thought I would tell you. Right now this would be an idea with the online gaming you could have Grand Theft Auto Online, what happens is you choose a gang get your person and have an online city or cities and go around and get weapons and customise your character. you can walk around the place and see the other online gamers character and then vs other gamers who are on a different gang and get your gang (which are other online gamers of course) and have gang wars. The power of the technolgy probbably isn't strong enough....yet one day it WILL happen one day. Laters 8)

Neither of those games are launch titles though.

Stop talking about chavs people get mixed up with hoodys and chavs and I would like to point out they are NOT the same thing and I am a Hoody and I find it offensive so if you do see some chavs they might be Hoodys but chavs are prats and tw*ts so watch out sorry to go of subject. 8)

Hideo Kojima said he hopes to have it playable at E3 2007, meaning it's probably a fall 2007 release at the earliest.

There is lots of roundabouts in the US. I've seen some in the northeast.
Was there any other info about GTA 4 besides the release date? (been gone for a while)

well its multiplatform (Playstation3, xbox360) , but you probably knew that
only releasedate, multiplatform for ps3 and 360, and the 360 will get some exclusive online content...like bikes, cars, clothes, but the ps3 will probably also get that kind of features...

No the 360 gets exclusive "episodic" content, which implies extra missions/gameplay extensions, not just bikes/cars/clothes etc.

Americans are not smart enough to use roundabouts! The european posters on this board don't appreciate how dumb and inattentive the average American is. The last thing I want o see on a daily basis is a 17 year old girl merging into a roundabout driving her 5000lbs Lincoln Navigator, one hand on her starbucks coffee, the other one text messaging are stupid friend, all the while singing to the kelly clarkson song in the background. These tiny girls drive the biggest frickin SUV's you can imagine! It truely is scary.
Americans drive enormous cars very aggressively. The morning and evening commutes routinely turn into stand still traffic as the result of major accidents or fist fights from road rage. Adding roundabouts into the regular traffic patterns would confuse the already idiotic American public and ultimately cause more problems than they would solve. I believe roundabouts are very efficient and reduce traffic if they are navigated by rational drivers. However, that isn't the case in America.

I want to see next-gen GTA screens, or new info bad. I'm curious how rockstar will implement the motion tech as well. I want them to make the perfect game-engine. And I want to skate like Tony Hawk and throw frisbees as well, and play mini-golf. GTA:SA was the 'perfect' game, I don't want them to mess up or leave things out.
I need brainfood.
in regard to the 'episodic content', i personally reckon it WILL be stuff like clothes, cars, wepons etc, but released periodically, like the windows service packs and stuff. I dont know why but I dont see rockstar differentiating the platforms versions as much as offering new missions. even if they DID, it would ever be missions already in the ps3 version, or new job missions.

Hahahaha the way Americans drive varies significantly from city to city. In bigger cities, people drive just like any other big city in the world. But outside of the cities, people drive "regularly" ;)

it could be new missions but it could never be storyline missions ofcourse...
BTW. I hope they finally include a programm you can use to play , already played, missions again....I really missed that in GTA SA because I really wanted to play the LIberty City mission again...

i deffiantly agree with what you guys are sayingAhh this is one of the things i REALLY want to see on next gen.
If this were to happen and it wouldnt be a total flop (like the GTA SA multiplayer ) it would propably be one of the online games i would play the most.
Types of online play... Hmm. Tough one.
1: Free roam (an obvious choice and a must if there is online...)
2: Gang war over territorys.
3: Maybe a "all vs all" mode with just total destruction.
I wouldnt really worry about it costing extra to play it online.
If im not totally mistaken Sony might have a online service that would cost a small monthly fee. (like xbl) So a game costing extra to play online wouldnt be a really good move, But like so many more people out there i would still pay for it if its good.
And if there isnt a online mode. (which might be...) I REALLY hope they put some kind of decent splitscreen (or using the dual tv connectivity) multiplayer.
The one in SA was just horrible. I tried it a few times with some buddies and never touched it again.
Heres a little list of the things that would have to be fixed in offline multiplayer:
1: both players can use their own vehicle.
2: Splitscreen mode...
3: players can go more than 10 damn feet away from each other.
4: being able to use ALL guns/equipment in multiplayer. (you couldnt use cameras or bazookas for instance.) Yes all of this sounds amazing and i cant wait AHHH it should be dominating just like the new game coming out Assasins Creed they are both two big thums up if you ask me. I think these will be two dominate games just like Socom but i hope socom will also have anew 1 for the ps3 not for ps2 like thye are doing the combination aussat

i dunno man, san andreas pretty much took place in the ghettos of southern california. there wasnt much of a alternative/grunge movement in the ghettos :P. a lot of NWA, and stuff.
San Andreas wasn't crappy it was just not mafia style...it was gangster...and some people don't really respect the gangster style...I liked this game more then any other!

I think you should be able to play sport. And be able to listen to music which is popular at the moment on or use real radio channels for the radio channels onthe game. Big Brother the t.v show has started in the UK and I thought that there could be something like that on GTA4 and you could go see wher it's happening and maybe you could sneak in and kill everybody. Maybe you could audition to be on the show and try win it or just kill everybody , or you could win go out kill the contestants who come back for the last episode and kill the presenter and audience.Oh and can someone tell me if GTA:SA will still be out when the PS3 comes out. Bye 8) 8) 8)

If it's gangs again which it should be it would be good if other gangs fought each other. Take San Andreas for example the ballas and seville never fought each other doing gang wars when they should , and say when you take over an area origanaly owned by the seville how come the ballas never tried to take it over only the seville tried to retake it. If it is gangs I hope they do the opposit of what I mentioned and get the other gangs to fight each other but I still want the gangs to fight me .Bye 8)

you know how at the end of the game you have like million dollars and nothing to do with it, well it would be cool if you could along with stealing cars you could go to a dealer and buy cars. if u steal a car u lose that car when it blows up, or you get busted, wasted or just leave it and go and do something else. but if you bought the car then if it blows up it goes to a garage and they fix and you have to pay for the repairs. if you get busted the a toe truck comes and gets it and takes it to a inpound lot and you have to pay to get it out. and if u leave it on the street for awhile then its reconized as being apanded, and you have to pay to get it back. i also think that they should have the system of being wanted by the police as driver parallel lines. that was cool when the cops wanted you u got in a fresh car and they didn't know it was you unless you drove bad around them.

It would be really good if Rockstar could somehow have online play in GTA4 for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 and owners of both consoles could somehow battle against each other in the game. Who needs the Zaibatsu, Yakuza and Mafia when you've got rabid Xbox 360 and PS3 fans...

You guys all seem to want some massively multiplayer online game with clans and stuff, but I just don't see it happening with this game. It would be in direct competition with APB (www.apb.com) which is being brought out by the original GTA creator...
However, PS3 vs 360 would be fucking awesome... :D
yea..i can imagine everytime a ps3 owner pawned a xbox 360 owner or vice versa a big argument would start that ur system suks. would be so kool though.

lol, would that happen though? Is that possible? (i don't know anything about online lol, i even made a topic asking about it :( )
wasnt there talk a little while ago about them implamenting some sort of fuel system? i think that would be cool. what Id like to see aswell:
- building damage
- being able to buy cars
- return of hardware stores etc like on VC
- free for all/gang battles online
- radio comentary - on some bits of SA, when you rob those 3 places with that bird, and when the riot was happening the radio mentioned it, this would be cool if you got say 4-5 stars if the radio mentioned that some nutter was on the loose.
and some other stuff that I cant remember.

wasnt there talk a little while ago about them implamenting some sort of fuel system? i think that would be cool. what Id like to see aswell:
- building damage
- being able to buy cars
- return of hardware stores etc like on VC
- free for all/gang battles online
- radio comentary - on some bits of SA, when you rob those 3 places with that bird, and when the riot was happening the radio mentioned it, this would be cool if you got say 4-5 stars if the radio mentioned that some nutter was on the loose.
and some other stuff that I cant remember.
it would have been really kool if they made the psp interact or be a part of the game..too bad though since it wouldnt happen with MS having the same game. :(

That will be the first game to ever do that, and it will be awesome.

That would be the absolute BEST THING EVER. Wanna end all the 360 vs. PS3 feuds? just settle it on the streets. I think i would have too much fun shooting all the 360 guys. And then i could say thing like "haha, you have to pay to play this game and im playing for free!!"

Why is it that the 360 gets extra content and the PS3 doesnt? The PS3 has the HDD and interface and such now, so why the hell do we get left out on the extra content? thats lame..

I just want GTA4 to be better on my PS3. Because I know I am getting oneat launch.
Bully isn't a GTA...and isn't developed by Rockstar North, it is being developed by ROckstar Vancouver.
I hope Sony will soon say something about their relationship between them and Rockstar...mostly because of the online content etc.
As the content the 360 gets canīt be very much story related, without being brought to the PS3 also, Iīm not too concerned about it.
Someone posted earlier that because itīs called "episodic content", itīs gonna be new missions and such. Well, it could be, but it might as well be new models, skins etc that are distributed to the consumers through XBL in small packages (Episodes), once a month or so.
And if they decide not to give the PS3 anything, Iīm sure there is someone out there who will figure out to use custom content just like on PC on the previous games.
So just sit back and donīt sweat about it.
I thought they only made Gta IV for x-box 360 only, who is the main character in this one :?:
The 360 exclusive thing was a rumor that was corrected very quickly. GTA4 will release simultaneously on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
The main character hasnīt been revealed yet (as far as I know). Neither has pretty much any other info about the game.
I still believe in exclusive content for the ps3 as well. But we will have to wait and see...

Notice the look-around corner and reload feature of F2B. And the virtual cockpit, and refeuling in air in TFX (this game also has nice enemy-lock cam in virtual cockpit mode, fly-by cam, weapon-cam features and other interesting cam-modes). I hope next GTA has stuff like this.

This comes from the website:
"Rockstar North is creating a specialized game engine for PS3 that will bring GTA 4 to life to a degree that PS2 games could only hint at. Specifically, they're going to be using the high data transfer bandwidth of the Cell CPU, RSX GPU, and Blu-ray Disc to use several streams of game info simultaneously. The game's city - unfortunately yet to be even hinted at - will still be free roaming and seamless, but broken down into smaller, more deatailed areas at the engine level, into which the game designers are going to be able to pour more textures, more oject variety, and tons of details (such as discareded soda cans with their own physics), just for starters. The goal is a city that's less repetitive and where everything - and everyone - looks and acts more like they would in the real world on every level."

yeah, that was under "Rumours & Speculation"
however there was an "Interviews" part
The January issue of Game Informer magazine contained a lengthy interview with the president of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser. Even though he is notoriously elusive in speaking to gaming publications, Game Informer managed to sit down with him and ask him about the GTA series, as well as the gaming industry. Here is a sample of the interview:
Question: Is this the last new Grand Theft Auto game we'll see on this generation of hardware? It seems like you've probably pushed the PS2 hardware about as far as you can.
Answer: "Terry [Donovan, CEO of Rockstar] will batter me if I answer that question! [Laughs] It is the last full-blown thing we're going to see for now. But someone might come up with a wacky idea that's fun and relevant tomorrow. I'm one of those "never say never" kind of people. It was really important for us to do this trilogy. A fictional New York in a contemporary setting, Miami in the '80s, and a '90s Cali - that was the trilogy. That was the plan from a long time ago. I'm not the biggest fan of games coming out with new versions year after year. Putting out the same game every year, plus ten percent, that's not our thing."
When asked about an online GTA game, Houser mentioned Everquest as a possible source of inspiration. Additionally, "just giving people deathmatch, or even a cooperative deathmatch - that's not GTA." Houser spoke on Rockstar's choice of systems, saying he is "supporting all the next generation systems," and that "what we built the company on when we moved from PSone to PlayStation 2 was a desire to make games that you couldn't play on the existing platforms. That's very important."

I wonder if Rockstar is able to licence MAME games (and MAME) just like they licence music. Would be awesome if you could play a real arcade game(s) ingame.
maybe, but I am not really into ingame arcade games...they should just concentrate on the gameplay itself to make it perfect.

They could still use blu-ray to its full and the XB360 might come on several DVD's or have a bigger compression rate.
Who know's - Rockstar do :D
One thing I am sure about and that is that there will be no way to make it on more then 1 disc because then you would constantly have to change discs when going to another part of the "world". A bigger compression rate is more plausible.

I dont think that the next GTA will be as good as it can be
Theres is no way that they'll have it so you have to cahnge disks every time you go into a new place
sadly they will have to make it smaller to fit the 360
i think both versions will be exactly the same
the 360s a little better because of the episodic content
but i no one knows what that is yet so maybe its a little early to tell
One thing I am sure about and that is that there will be no way to make it on more then 1 disc because then you would constantly have to change discs when going to another part of the "world". A bigger compression rate is more plausible.I have read three days ago that there's Blu-Ray with 200 GB on way sometime in 2007 !! , So i've been wondering if there's any possibility to use it by R* in their coming game ?
Also the the website i've read this stuff from said that there's Blu-Ray 100GB has been underdeveloped for about 4 months.
If R* will use Blu Ray 54 that mean the game will be 7 times bigger than the last one..
And with 100 or 200 ( in future ) it will be more than 15 or 20 times bigger.
http://www.presence-pc.com/actualite/blu-ray-200-go-16160/
Yeah right...using the full 200 gigs for a game...don't believe in that kind of things till next next generation...
Yeah, 200 gigs would be overdoing it a little.
The fact remains that pretty much the same game the PS3 is getting has to fit on at most a few DVD-9 disc. I donīt think it will be a problem for the first GTA of this gen, but for the future ones it might be.
They might make also the 360 version first, and fit it on a DVD, then add on to that a little to get the "exclusive graphics engine" the PS3 is getting.
yeah...but they are probably making 2 specificly made engines for the ps3 and the 360 separately...I guess that is the best way. But it could also be just 1 engine...

hi all,
I've finally finished reading all 129 pages of this thread and my eyes are bleeding!
I must say that I am surprised by the quality of suggestions for content in the next GTA, alot of you have shown exceptional imagination.
My reasoning for saying this is that I have been designing a sequel for GTA for some time (just brainstorming myself) and I have come up with some amazing ideas that alot of you also have thought of, I am glad that many gamers are on the same wavelength that I am.
Might I suggest that if you have a good idea that doesn't generate positive feedback then you should qualify your answer. Like prison, there have been many people slating the prison concept as boring, but how boring is a game where the only punishment for committing crimes is a quick death and respawn!
Prison could be part of the story and hence you wouldn't be missing anything from being there, I would write in characters you meet inside that become part of the game outside (imagine meeting cesar while inside, then him phoning you when he got out to go do stuff)
Anyway I thought I'd have a go at my own wishlist (I can't write all my stuff as I have more sheets of A4 filled out than pages on this thread!)
Prison: adds realism and depth to the story.
AI: no more cars in the right hand lane turning left (it makes no sense!!) better peds (not suicidally attracted to your car!) much better police (someone mentioned this before, you must get out of sight before you can pay'n'spray)
Seasons: the best by far, I would time it so that if you saved after every mission you wouldn't be able to complete the games missions before winter hits making driving and running hazardous
War: (this one surprised me, I thought I was the only person who thought of this!) I want a distant foreign war that your are (eventually) drafted into, here you will learn some military tactics and make some friends plus you will have the choice to return for another tour where you will gain access to more military hardware as well as the right to walk into any military establishment afterwards
Friends: what happened to sweet after you completed the story missions? or your sister? With one call you will be able to meet up with friends to party, plan heists or go on a rampage in opposing gang territory. Also you would be able to call for a ride when you car runs out of petrol (or you flip it in the middle of nowhere!)
Territory warfare: more advanced with different grades of territories with different difficulty levels also fortifications that need to be taken before you try to take over (burn the safehouse out and attack again before they can rebuild!)
Cars:
manual and auto: I own a nissan skyline (R32GTS) and it's an auto (3 speed!) which quite frankly isn't right, wheelspin becomes almost uncontrollable as the box tries to change gears to keep up, the GTR is like rocking horse proverbial in auto spec (good thing too) so the fastest cars should only be manual with the medium sports cars in either and basic cars are all auto
Modifications: Should basically be lifted from NFSU2 for performance and cosmetic modifications, this would not be on all cars there would be certain cars that you can tune some that you can only modify cosmetically and some that you can only get factory options for (when you buy or aftermarket)
Petrol: Lets get this straight even the most powerful and thirsty car can get 200 miles out of a tank of fuel so it's not going to intrude too much into your playability and when you jack a car it might be nearly empty hampering your getaway tactics (it's all about the depth!)
Driving sidegames: Drifting, street racing, circuit racing (anyone see a NFSU theme!!) maybe even racing for pinks! (I know that is an americanism but it doesn't sound as good racing for V5's!!)
Dealerships: you should only be able to buy certain cars at a dealers as they are so rare
Safehouses: there was not enough variety in the interiors and no real value in buying a $100,000 house other than it's location. You should be able to kit certain houses out with stuff to do (pool table, b-ball hoop swimming pool for diving practise (triple somersault to pike anyone!)) You should also be able to sell your houses if you want (maybe for a profit!) Some houses will include accommodation for your gang members helping to protect you and your assets.
Buildings: these will appear as you progress through time, some areas will be wasteland at the start of the game and will develop into the new housing areas or a different commercial sector (other areas will deteriorate as you play becoming slums as the crime rate soars!) you will also be able to build your own mansion (not too sims like but pick style of property, fixtures and fittings and site to build it on) Also why didn't the radios work in the houses? surely that could be simple?
Soundtrack: Did alot of your versions of SA only come with playback and radio los santos? Because my version had country, rock, pop and dance music seriously it wasn't all hip-hop! I want the best from all the previous titles in the franchise, double cleff fm from GTAIII (doing drive-bys listening to classical music is one of lifes little pleasures!!) an 80's station from vice city and a hip-hop station from SA as well as rock and dance music from all times (60's 70's 80's 90's and 00's) providing that the game isn't set in the past!
Missions: I want a more freeform style where there is an objective that you must complete but no definitive way of doing it, that way you can be really creative in doing the tasks
Environment: Huge, SA was big but I think it could have been bigger especially when flying the hydra, the thing about a bigger landscape is that you might not appreciate it too much when doing the missions, but once it's over it's the size and detail that keep you playing.
Sidegames: Why put a golf course on most titles and no way to play on it? You may all think that golf is boring but it can be quite enjoyable especially when played against a human opponent, also proper b-ball and many other sports and I still want dancing (yes some of you may have no rhythm but I have and I really enjoyed watching CJ dance like a ginger beer!!)
With the sidegames I would lift (borrow?!?) the game engines from games like actua golf 3 (PS1)
Location: I'm not going to get into the debate about what city/country I want I just want country, city, beach and wilderness areas don't care how or where I get 'em! btw has anyone played getaway? It's not a competitor to GTA no matter how you try to see it, the driving and walking and aiming are all useless so even if the next GTA is in London (which would be just as good as any american city) the getaway will no doubt be unwieldy to play and irritating just as they have been already!! The same can be said for true crime NYC it sucks the big one!! I can't believe they tested it and went "this is great lets sell it now!!"
I have loads of other ideas but my fingers are dribbling blood all over the keys to go with my blood tinted vision after reading so much!!

Ok one of the guys talked to one of the Rockstar people after the MS conference and he said that Peter Moore confused people with the episodic content thing and it will be available on the PS3 version as well or something like that.

here we go. i love how the guy freaks out about GTA being a primary or secondary game.
http://zdmedia.vo.llnwd.net/o1/Podcasts/052606.mp3
Oh brilliant i waste my time downloading Quicktime 7.0 and i don't hear any audio from it. :?
This PC is testing my nerves.
Yeah the podcast was hilarious.
Iīm telling you guys right now, you want to know what they said.
For the lazy ones:
[spoiler:b579a01cbb]Basically Rockstarīs PR people said, at E3, that the downloadable content for 360 isnīt true, atleast not as Moore said it would be.
Anyone else see the "MS tells only lies!" signatures coming? [/spoiler:b579a01cbb]
So basicaly Moore is a liar and tried to pull that GTA stunt to try and gather hype for the 360. We knew from last years E3 that R* are making a GTA4 engine that will utilise the Cell, RSX and Blu-Ray. What we dont know is what they are doing as to the 360.
The way I see it; GTA on the PS3>>>>GTA on the 360
BTW I now officially hate 1up even more than I did before. They are doofuses.
I listed to the podcast, the way I see it is this:
both will have exclusive content
the 2 versions (xb360 and ps3) are not the same game, there will be a difference
wether the difference has to do with graphics or animations or something else, I don't know, but both versions take advantage of each systems capabilities
this is an interesting turn of events, but can Rockstar even do that AND make a simultaneous launch?
This is why i hate Moore so much FIRST he says that GTA IV on the Xbox 360 comes out first with a launch date of October 17th 2006 which would suggest that Xbox 360 gets a timed exclusive.
And now the downloadable content might not be what it seems that Peter Moore is saying, if i was Rockstars PR i would ban him from announcing anything moore.
Oh yeah i had to sit through all that PS3 bashing urgh never listenng to the podcast ever again.
Next years E3 will definately be an entertaining one.
Got to hand it to them though they had an alright debate about GTA IV being a secondary game on the console, it's IP strength is somewhat dumbed down being a multi-platform game.

People, are we still talking about how Rockstar is going to have to make GTAIV smaller for the 360? Again, have you guys forgotten about Oblivion? That is a massive game but yet that was on the Xbox 360. Also Mass Effect, which is a pure 360 exlusive. That is looking to be a large game with a LOT of content and cutscenes but yet Bioware has already stated many times that it will all fit on one disk, not multiple disk.
So people, please lets just get over the whole 360 vs PS3 version debate and just be happy that you're even getting a GTAIV. Lol, its not the end of the world now.

Yeah, I guess there is no reason then, why they downgraded oblivions graphics a little before itīs launch...
Graphics and detail are one of the biggest space consumers in games. Itīs just how it goes.
And as you propably know, Rockstar stated that the PS3 version of GTA4 will have itīs "exclusive graphics engine". Are you saying that it wonīt take more space than the 360 version and rockstar are just making it for the hell of it?
The reason why this conversation is alive is that we really donīt know the differences between the versions and weīre interested in knowing more about them. And isnīt this exactly what we should be talking about? Itīs the latest news about GTA4 and last time I checked this thread was about GTA4... As you can clearly see, we already have about 120 pages of speculation and wishlists, so those are getting kind of old.
Yeah right...using the full 200 gigs for a game...don't believe in that kind of things till next next generation...
It's called "Grand Theft Auto Earth". We will see that soon enough :D . 200 Gigs could fit small country on the disc if the level of graphics is the same as the PS2 versions. Lets say France or Germany.
hehe i hope your joking. Because germany and france I think are the biggers european contries.
Actualy they could make Switzerland. It is small so they could have amayzing graphics. But they would still have to add teleportation to the game.
Good news btw that it isn't at all true the 360 is getting exclusive content :P thnx 1up for talking to that person, let's hope he really told the truth!
But it was always pretty obvious that is the truth. I mean R* arn't going to give one console exclusive content and not the other, obviously Microsoft are going to twist their words so it gives them an advantage, what suprises me is that Sony didn't and have yet to clarify things and say at E3 'well look guys the PS3 is going to get its own exclusive stuff'. I don't know why they didn't do this, perhaps they're feeling confident enough in their own knowledge that the PS3 version of GTA is going to be above the 360 version or perhaps they just think that the release of GTA4 is a long way off and there's plenty time for details to be revealed. After all so far Sony have gone for a strategy of only releasing small amounts of info generally about the PS3, and its worked, its kept people talking and speculating which is just what Sony, and R* for that matter, want.
I also think its pretty silly for GTA fans to think that R* will have compromised GTA4 to make it available for the 360 and fit on a standard DVD. THERE IS NO WAY R* WILL HAVE DONE THIS.
Its highly likely that the 360 version of the game will just be compressed, thats all. Also be realistic about the size of this game and what the PS3 can handle. A Blue Ray 30GB GTA with ultra high res graphics and sound with a map the size of Europe including 1000's of buildings you can enter and all the other 'wish list' capablities just aint going to happen. I know R*North have spent longer working on this game than any other GTA but there is only so much they will be able to do, even over 3 or 4 years, and only so much (believe it or not) the PS3 can handle.
GTA4 will be big, it will be amazing and most of all it will hold a lot of suprises.

enterable buildings.
Just how many types of building can there be in one game? There are only so many in the world and how many would be interesting enough for you to want to explore?
What could you do in each building? I mean, other than exploring the interior how many things can there be to do in a strange building, that you couldn't do outside?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the idea of more interiors, it's just that having played true crime NYC recently (it was lent to me I wouldn't buy it, it's not worth full price!) and going into the many buildings that you can there, it got old real quick. Huge duplication of interiors would ruin the feel of there being many buildings, as it does with true crime.
So folks, what buildings would you like to see in GTA4?
Personally I would like to be able to go into huge skyscrapers and up to the top floor, then pull your piece, blow out the window and base-jump to the ground below!!
Let's put this into perspective...
This is why i'm hyped about GTA PS3.
-- PSM Magazine USA, November 2005
This is how i'm going to judge GTA next gen and on top of that this is how i'm going to judge every next gen GTA clone before it, GTA unlike every other sandbox game game has a lot of crap happening simultaneuosly, unlike RPG's
I've been watching bits and bits of Crackdown for the Xbox 360 while the draw distance has improved from current gen tremendously, i noticed there weren't that many vehicles and pedestrians on the screen at once almost like a ghost town at some points because there was practically nothing to suggest you were in a city although note that this is early in game so i can't make a full judgement on it.
My benchmark on GTA IV is very high because of that statement alone, so i will be picking this game with a fine tooth comb of what's been improved and what hasn't.
I believe that for Rockstar to "bring GTA 4 to life to a degree that PS2 games could only hint at" they will have to exceed a DVD9 by far.
I thought that PSM magazine piece was considered pure speculation and just an educated guess. I mean its stating the obvious that the game engine will be optimised to get the most out of whatever console its played on, be it the 360 or the PS3. All of that PSM quote is stating the obvious, more textures, more detail better physics etc etc.

Because germany and france I think are the biggers european countries.
Actually they could make Switzerland. It is small so they could have amazing graphics. But they would still have to add teleportation to the game.
Nope, I'm not joking about that France and Germany thing. Maybe just all the towns and citys without the land and farms in the game. It would maybe just get too massive with 100% of the country on the disc.
here we go. i love how the guy freaks out about GTA being a primary or secondary game.

That podcast that was posted is odd and wrong I just skipped some of it. The people talking said that blu-ray sucks because it can't play DVD's. Now that can only mean these people have no idea what they're talking about so why would we listen to them? You have to be pretty stupid to think blu-ray can't play DVD's. Around 11-13 minutes into the podcast you will hear them say that   .
@elegy=skyline: You read all the pages in this topic? Cool, did you read my idea about the real radio stations in the game? It's a online stream of real radio during gameplay so that it's always new and doesn't ever get old!!

Ok now this is the kind of 5*+t that pisses me off. Peter Moore is a lieing son of who spreads fud to lead people away from the competition. I knew who was a evil guy but c'mon. Lieing to people the GTAIV was a 360 exclusive and then lieing that it would have exclusive downloadable content. Sony may not be no angel especially when they showe CGIs and then used it to make the PS3 look years and generations ahead of the 360's power, but Peter Moore is making MS looking like the greater evil. Sometimes that man really makes me wonder how much FUD these companies are spreading.

I've seen some "brow-raising" ideas for the next GTA; if only we had some assurances that R* was hearing our voices...
This suggestion, like all the others, is probably in vain, but I'd really like to be able to have some rooftop chases in the next GTA...whether it is the cops chasing you, or you chasing some punk, it would be nice, especially in the older sections or more industrial parts of town (obviously, the modern downtown skyscrapers wouldn't work as well).
I like the prison idea, as long as prison could be made "fun" (e.g., networking, weightlifting, etc).
Vercetti

Well, you could have rooftop chases technically, but the cops would be too dumb to follow.

Yeah, rooftop chases sound good, there was a mission in Vice City where Diaz has you go check up on some "d*ckhead" and you look through the window and it initiates the chase.....i think that's the mission name, "The Chase".
The AI seemed pretty good with getting across the rooftops, the plank, and jumping from the roof to the dumpsters. I was surprised to not see many rooftop chases in SA, especially since they give you a better climbing ability.... it was mostly used for jumping fences...
elegy=skyline
05-29-2006, 12:25
yeah, rooftop chases would be really cool. As would having rooftops period other than by using the jetpack there were no real rooftops you could access in SA. I'd like to see more fire escape ladders that you could climb to access roofs and buildings from the roof!

Actually I was going to answer to the mega post, but half way through my head exploded...
I do give you huge props on reading through the thread though. I couldnīt make myself go through all these pages.
Sorry if I (or we in general) seemed unwelcoming in any way. :?
Actually the fire escapes were one thing that were bothering me in present GTA games. I always wanted to climb them, but never could. Itīs very much possible that climbing ladders will be added as a new feature just like hopping fences was in SA.
Rooftop chases are a pretty good idea for a small part of a mission, but really nothing more. I donīt want to see one in every 5th mission.
Iīd really like to see the cops to be able hop fences and climb small walls as well as the main character can. Itīs just ridiculous that a cop canīt get over a 3 feet high wooden fence.
I think it could be a good idea to make escaping on foot a bigger part of the game, by not just making the cops shoot at you from 15 feet away, but instead trying to run you down and arrest you. Of course not if you were shooting back.
Iīll give my opinnion on enterable buildings now (better late than never).
I agree that not nearly every building has to be enterable. Who here really thinks every (or most) building(s) would be interesting, if they were only appartments and random offices.
Sure they might be fun to run around for a while, but they wouldnīt really serve a purpose.
I personally think only buildings with actual content should be enterable. For example hospitals with doctors, nurses, patients, etc, in them. All the things youīd expect to see in one.
A few "random" buildings could be enterable just to add something extra.
One thing Iīd like to see is them actually "expanding" the buildings. I mean, yesh you could enter buildings in SA, but they were very limited. Iīd like to see more rooms, areas, stuff in the buildings you can enter.
Just would make them so much more interesting.

I was hoping for more free-roaming ability for rooftop access, not just missions. For example, you have someone chasing you. Your options are to run down the street, and maybe lose them by ducking into an alley (BTW, dark alleys are something I never saw in SA) or climbing a fire-escape ladder and seeing if you can chicken them out by jumping from roof to roof. So, anytime you raised your star status where the police are after you, this should be an option.
I actually could do w/ less missions on SA and more fluid environments. I personally play for the free-roaming aspect, not the missions.
I am new to the forum---I don't suppose anyone posting claims to work or know someone who works for R*? Not that I'd believe them, but it is always interesting to hear someone's gossip on the latest developments of the game, whether true or not. I don't suppose there has been any more rumors released lately? Last time I really was digging, the consensus seemed to be that the game was to be set in London in the 1960s (what a great setting for rooftop chases, lol). Any other news?

ok i heard the next gta game will be set in europe and its thinking it being in london, lets put it like this ok. the first gta game was on playstation1 back in the 90's, there was 3 places we could play in such as LIBERTY CITY, VICE CITY & SAN ANDREAS & then along came the ps2 version's first there was GTA 3 - set in LIBERTY CITY, then there was GTA VICE CITY a few yrs later, also last year was the best selling GTA SAN ANDREAS. so this mean all them were in the ps1 version in 2d, after that ps1 version, along came GTA LONDON. i think it makes pretty good sence what & were the GTA 4 game will be.

nextgen,
I also think it will be London, given the rumors. I really hate it though---GTA really seems to be so Americana, you know? I don't know if I will carry the same enthusiasm for a London-set game. I feel somewhat familiar w/ the settings in Vice City and San Andreas; everyone has been to "beach towns" in their life similar to Vice City and San Andreas just is so typical of Los Angeles more than anything (I realize it is set, at least partially, in San Francisco, but after living in SF, I really feel it is very LA). I would think a Chicago-based GTA would rock (my experience w/ Chicago is that it is very similar to Gotham City, ie Batman, w/ its industrial light transit tracks running above the city streets).
I guess R* can make it work wherever it is.
I thought I remember reading on one of the GTA posts in this forum---perhaps not this one---that someone was claiming to have some inside knowledge of the game and was giving some hints at the capabilities of the next GTA. I'm too lazy to dig through the old posts for it.

in san andreas it allows for people to ride in passenger planes or fly at-400s. In the next one they should have vice city, liberty city, san andreas, and mabee a new city there. Planes would arrive at their airports, and u can fly to the different islands. there should also be a taxi driver kind of mission where u have to fly the passenger plane to the different locations and drop them off.
I thought that would be sick. people let me know what u think. I think its a crazy idea and that if they dont put it in by GTA:4 they should try to get this idea in for GTA:5

Multiple cities would be too big. San Andreas is just the right size. They should just add more detail.
Mr Turnip
05-30-2006, 13:03
Yeah, more detail and features, and minus the glitches, but a little bigger wouldn't hurt, especiallyif a feature was added whee you could travel in taxis for a fee (just taking you to places inside the town or city) and for when you want to go further then the next town, take a plane. That's been discussed before but i think that's the best way to have a win win situation with a huge city, and people not getting annoyed that they have to travel everywhere and it taking them ages

Oh you canīt? I guess I must have imagined the underground routes and subways in GTA3...
Granted that theyīre not a big part of the game and that Vice City and San Andreas neither really have anything similiar.

As far as I know Rockstar stated that none of the GTA3 trilogyīs cities will be in GTA4. Same goes for characters, but Iīm pretty sure weīll see some old characters make small appearances.
I donīt GTA4 to be any bigger than San Anreas. It was just perfect in my opinnion. They should just make more use for the areas. For example some of the desert or forest areas were kind of boring with really nothing in them. Just fill those with small stuff to keep it interesting and Iīll be happy. Of course I want there to still be forest and deserts, just not as much "empty" ones.

maybe it'll be so frigging big that there will be multiple countries.. and you could
smuggle stuff from one country to another. just popping the trunk and putting stuff in there would be awesome.. like in that mission when CJ and ryder breaks into the militarybase and load stuff into the truck with a forklift.
imagine doing that outside the missions. you take your 18 wheeler to the harbour and load drugs or something into the trailer. then you take off to the airport and load it over to a airplane or helicopter and fly to another city and sell it.. with profit of course;). just think of the possibillities man!

I know it's been said but I think they should make it an online like an mmo game
They can't just rip everything off :o :o
I know it's been said but I think they should make it an online like an mmo game
GTA4 will have a big and complex online element, no doubt about it. Sam Houser from R* name checked Everquest as a possible source for the online direction of GTA4 so take a look at how that game works online for clues as to how GTA4 will work
Sam Houser never confirmed anything about the online things of GTA IV...no info about the game has been released so far but the releasedate and the platforms...
Whats this all about then:
"The January issue of Game Informer magazine contained a lengthy interview with the president of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser.
"When asked about an online GTA game, Houser mentioned Everquest as a possible source of inspiration.
Edit.
For those of you who are not familiar with MMORPG games and how they work here's a brief synopsis of the online workings of Everquest taken from Wikipedia
"While some parts of EverQuest can be experienced alone, without the help of other players, EQ generally remains a very group-centric game. A single character, unless exceptionally well prepared (either by means of equipment or with spell enhancements, referred to in-game as 'buffs'), will be unable to complete many of the encounters in EverQuest. Most parts of the game can be completed with small groups of up to six or so people, but the most challenging (and rewarding) encounters require the cooperation of many players, possibly totalling 72 players, although the trend in recent expansions tends towards 54 as a maximum. A large force of gamers gathered together to perform one task, is referred to as a "raid". Normally the number of players range from 36 to 72, limiting factors being the maximum number of people allowed in a "raid window" (72) and the maximum number of people allowed in certain instanced zones in more recent expansions. Zerging (A term that comes from another popular computer game, Starcraft) is when a raid's main strategy is to overwhelm an enemy by sheer force of numbers. As EverQuest has aged, tactics have become more and more involved. Some of the most complex 'modern' raid events can take a very experienced guild dozens of attempts before they succeed. Less skilled guilds may take as many as a hundred tries to beat the same event, if they are able to accomplish it at all, due to the level of strategy and teamwork required to defeat modern EverQuest encounters.
I think that probably has some clues as to how GTA4 might work online and how missions may involve multiple characters each unique to the person playing them.
And here's something else that may interest people, an interview with MS's Peter Moore and he talks briefly about the GTA4 online element
"You say you'll have exclusive content, but will Rockstar also be making exclusive content for the PS3?
You'd have to ask them that. They're not going to tell me what they're doing. I don't know, I mean, how good are they feeling about the power and strength of the PS3 online network? What development environment are they working on right now, what size of installed base?
I mean, the guys at Rockstar are very smart guys as you well know. They've never really been able to do a lot on Xbox Live and that hurts them. People like Sam Houser and Terry Donovan are the most innovative guys in our industry, as you well know, and back in the UK where a lot of this is made, there's a real desire now to get with what's going on in the future, and that's driving a connected state with consumers that are millions strong.
I'm sure Sony's going to come up with something, but the proof of the pudding is in the tasting on this thing. We're there, we're going to be at six million by next E3, our attach rate is phenomenal. It's not just that early adopter any more - by having the Silver tier in there, by removing credit cards... As of last night, we now have a thousand pieces of downloadable content on Marketplace.
When you add all of that together, you've got to be able to predict an environment that you can develop into, with a predictable installed base and a consistent interface. Then we talk to them, as we did, about Live Anywhere on top of that - which Bill went through - now we're talking about hundreds of millions if not billions. That's a market that we've got to look at. We've got to address how you take a platform, that is Live, which has been given birth to on the Xbox but which is ultimately a platform play.
This is about a connected state - this is no different from the phenomenons of things like MySpace. People want to connect, and while offline gaming will still be popular, connecting your console now is not some geeky, intimidating, first-person shooter thing. It's things like Viva Pinata, which people scoff at, and that's fine. We'll prove them wrong. The boys at Rare, as always, are going to push the envelope and see where it will split. We're broadening that demographic, getting people to feel more comfortable about connecting. That's very important to us."
The whole interview is here http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=16944[/b]

To me extra content means extra money. And i dont see how i will put even more money in a game i paid so much money for.I might save my loot for something else, im not gonna get stuck on one game and spend money on extra missions and stuff for it all the time.
And probably the extra missions will be extremely "funny"...i thought san andreas was cool in the beginning but it got too funnystyle and wierd later....the kid with the toy planes for example...wtf, too spaced out for me.
So if i look at how strange and dum the missions became after a while in SA, and think about what they would do if the would put even more in there...i dont know where they would take it.
For most games I would say no to online content. But if you tell me GTA online content ....I will buy it right away off the web dude!

my first post is on the other page 130 i think. Im saying that combining vice city, liberty city, and san andreas, PLUS a small new place, could work. The new consoles for the next gen could easily handle it. and someone replyed saying it would be annoying to fly planes back and forth through missions. what I think should happen is that when u arrive to a new place (vice city or somewhere else) a new storyline will come up, that connects to the ones from the other cities. With missions on the cities, the places will basically have u travel around the island that u are currently on, and not across every city. I just think this would be a cool idea.
The game would be cool if it started on a new place, and eventually u get to travel to new islands (ie: "bridge style" in the other gta's). There would be a storyline that would develop and people will eventually finish the story. then when they leave the island, new missions and objectives come up in vice city and liberty city.
I think this is a wicked idea, and it would be cool to have that in it (which it probably won't) as well as guard dogs, graphics and other things improved.

There would be a storyline that would develop and people will eventually finish the story. then when they leave the island, new missions and objectives come up in vice city and liberty city.
I think this is a wicked idea, and it would be cool to have that in it (which it probably won't) as well as guard dogs, graphics and other things improved.
let me know what u think. :D :gta:
The guys at rock* have already said that the next gen gta will be completely different from the gta3 trilogy so i'd say its safe to assume the places wont come back at all and i doubt the characters will make cameo appearances either.

Hey.....watch it man. (You know I had to say something.)
I don't want to see the old cities again. Part of the reason that GTA is successfull is because they keep it fresh.
As for the character, I would like to see a guy that hasn't been done before. Maybe an Asian or Latino dude. A different theme. How about a Mexican Drug Lord? You could have a mini-game where you try to jump the border!

nope that would be stupid. I want a man as character to play. That has always been more gangster ! 8)
Without question it will be CAC. If its going to have a huge online element then it will have to be otherwise you will have loads of versions of the same character running about which would look stupid

Or an asian guy looking for revenge against a mob that killed his brother.
"YOU KILL MY BROTHA!!"
Wait, this is GTA.. Why don't we go back to customizing your own character to whatever you want. Or you could pick your character out of two, three or four people. Each of them having their own story. Like four gangs against each other, and you play as the leader for each depending on the character.
Or you just joined and you get to the top.
i'd like to be able to personalize my own character for a GTA game, im sure the blu-ray disc could fit that kind of information on the disc and id also like to like to be able to use my own character on some kind of online GTA thing and i hope so much that GTA IV has online because I cant wait to go on a rampage against 100s of people in a city or something similar, if GTA IV has online its completely revolutionize GTA and take it to higher heights than ever!!! :!: :!: :!:

just as long as the girl u are playing as is not a fat hooker, it could work. people could choose whether to be a guy or a girl, but then it might take away from the "pick up and play ability of the other games and it might feel more arcady if people were to choose.
a girl is a possibility of a character, but none the less there should be someone new. (mabee cj could make a cameo like ken rosenburg)
and yeah, I agree that the new game should just stick to the new places. but if the companies can do somthing like that LATER ON with say.... 3 new places u can fly to, in one game, that would be sweet. but I agree with all of u. u want to play a new game, not revisit the old.

no problem with playing a girl, I just think that some of the gta customers may drop and reduce sales for the franchise. but I personally would still proably buy the game.
i really think that they should add animals and wildlife to help fill out the wilderness (people say they are empty but I find them fine just need more stuff to do). and i think adamba4e said that u shouldnt be able to shoot them, but I think u should. not for the purpose to be able to kill them, but so then it would be realistic. if u wish u could use ur camera and just take pictures and watch them...or u could hunt them for fun. it could add just another thing to the game.
that is all
Actually a girl wouldn't be a bad idea. No one complained about being Lara Croft on Tomb Raider did they?
Mobias, what do you mean by CAC?
CAC - Create A Character.
Its an idea thats become fairly derided in recent video gaming (especially SSX) but its the only way I can see you can have online gaming and have everyone playing a unique character. I don't know how R* would do the voices, they may well do away with that element altogether, mission cut scenes will become a thing of the past. R* have said that GTA4 will be hugely different to GTA's of the past so get ready for a few profound changes people.
Vercetti
06-02-2006, 14:33
If they did have CAC, then I think it should be exclusively for the online feature. It wouldn't make any sense in the story to do that. As for the animals and children, I think animals would be ok. There is lots of games where you can shoot them so I don't see the sensitivity in doing that. Children on the other hand is a little too far. As long as you wouldn't be able to kill them I think it would be a good idea.
There is no point in putting children in GTA, they wouldn't add anything and remember R* doesn't actually go out of its way to be contraversial (believe it or not) putting childen in GTA would be undefendable for any reason on any level.
Animals are a different matter. It would be quite nice to see animals, especially out in the countryside and R* did actually put animals in Smugglers Run, and the ability to run them over. I don't know why they shied away from putting wild animals in the San Andreas countryside.
I really don't know how the character/storyline element is going to develope in GTA4. Obviously not all the game can revolve around online play because not all PS3 owners are going to be hooked up to the internet, though there is obviously a big push on the go to get as many owners online as possible.
Perhaps there will be two different ways to play the game, the traditional story/character path through it and then on top of that a create a character MMORPG game.

You should be able to take peoples wallets and cards. Use them at atm's.

I really enjoyed stealing people's stuff from their houses. That was awsome.
Although short lived. So a bit more depth there.
I certainly think that Saints rows Insurance fraud idea is a little to far. I mean,

OR there could be a large mountanious area where there are villages and ski hills, but further down the mountain areas, u get sunnier places and dry. like there could be cottage countrys, ski resort country and a big city. I would be fine with that.
it could be set maybe around the fall. it would look cool to have leaves fall from trees and stuff if it was in fall, but there are always a lot af things to ask but only keep wishing for them.

If i remember rightly the first official San Andreas news and batch of screen shots did appear slightly before the 2004 E3. Some people got to play parts in the game? Do you mean that they were casted in it? Or they actually played the game itself?
Could you possibly post those screens from that Mag (Power Unlimited)?
I think they're talking about San Andreas and the fact that at the 2004 E3 selected games journalists were taken aside and given a brief view of the game. Its worth noting that no one got to play San Andreas until a few weeks before the games release, as in no games journalists got to play it, they only got to view it.
Checking back through archives the first official San Andreas announcement was made on the 1st March 2004 but that was just confirmation that the game was actually called San Andreas and that it was to be released in October 2004. The first official info about the game, that it contained 3 cities and was an entire state came shortly before the 2004 E3.
So in the end its doubtful we'll hear anything until E3 next year, although expect tons of rumours to circulate long before then.

I'm sure it will have a name of some kind and I'm also sure that the name will be BIG clue to where its set hence we're not going know for a long while yet. My bets are still firmly placed on it being set in a fictional Europe.

Vercetti
06-05-2006, 19:13
Yeah 4 is good enough for me too. What is really exciting is that they will make a trilogy for GTA4 just like they did with GTA3 having VC and SA.
It may just be called GTAIV, that would make sense after all, but personally I think that would be pretty unimaginative. I'd prefer it if it were given a title, give it some direction.
And another thought
GTA3 was obviously as much an experiment back then as GTAIV is going to be for them now. They learnt a lot with VC and SA in particular. I doubt there will be a trilogy as such this time around, I don't think its going to work like that with development of TRUE open ended online play. I think GTAIV will be the birth of something much bigger and complex than just a trilogy of places loosely interlinked.

Well, considering that the next GTA will be the present, then I don't see how they would make prequels (since the 80's and 90's have already been done). I think that their best bet is to keep making sequels or just have new stories with each new title.

Yeah, it's pretty exciting, but i heard quite bad reviews for GTA LCS, apparently it was worse graphics because it wasn't an "official" GTA on PS2 game, it was just so people who had a PS2 but no PSP could have a chance to play it, but it is missing some features that GTA LCS on PSP has, like Online and stuff, so don't get exited about GTA VCS
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories for the Playstation 2 got an 8 of IGN. That is pretty good, but that is mostly thanks of the price...because it doesn't even includes multiplayer....that is pathetic in my opinion.

Apparantly thats because when R* wants to introduce multiplayer into proper console based GTA it wants to REALLY introduce it. Thats what they said, so we can take from that that GTA4 will be hugely online.
From what I've heard LCS is better as a PS2 port. The frame rate is higher, the draw distance is greater and you get to fly helicopters in it which you couldn't do without cheats on the PSP version.

With a 20 dollar price tag, you can't expect much from LCS. It's probably going to be the same for VCS. Back on GTA4, we probably won't see anything until September 2007. Maybe a teaser trailer if we're lucky.
I'm hoping for a few things...and apologies if I've repeated anything, not had chance to read all these posts...!
1. Me and my brother have dreamt about 2 player since GTA: III. San Andreas nearly got there, but there are loads of restrictions. Split screen or dual screen would be soooooooo good. Just to roam about with a friend would be amazing.
2. My all time favorite film is Dawn of the Dead. We've had pedestrians riot cheats etc... now its time we have PEDESTRIANS ARE ZOMBIES! Best cheat idea ever? I think so!! Where they slowly roam around eating suvivors, turning them into zombies... oh boy. :D
3. The ability to fly abroad / change location .. I seem to remember flying to Liberty City in SA, which was cool. More stuff like that!
4. Animals in the game.
5. Most other things they have perfected. I think one of the best elements to the GTA franchise is its satirical sense of humour...its so witty. The radio shows, shop names... I hope in the increased realism they won't lose the fun part. That's, for me, why I love the game so much.
Thats all I can think of right now!
Just thought of one...
6. Greater internal areas. It would be great to have more places to go into - houses, buildings, getting past security to a club - those kinds of things. And then interactivity with objects, picking up things, pens, books, rocks etc.
7. More ways of interacting with enemies - like in Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Vegas, apparently you can 'tag' an enemy, so a team member know who to prioritise. I loved the gang creating in GTA: SA, so a development of that would rock.
8. I love the way Lara Croft is a more nimble, moveable character - she can swing etc, and although the liklihood is GTA: IV will be in an urban environment, the same kinds of things are possible for humans to do - so why not in a game?
9. I hope they DON'T take the idea of you character being too realistic too far. I didn't mind getting tired after running a while etc, (that was actually fun during cop chases on foot). But I hope it won't get daft like having to eat 3 meals a day / having to poo etc. That would be rubbish!

actualy it would be cool if you could interact like assassin's creek will.
They said everything that will stick out 2" or more from the walls will be interactive so you can get on roofs.
Well It would be good but maybe not as much. Just better jumping skillis but I think that GTA SA is allreay pretty good at that.
Maybe just being abe to jump once using a wall...
