hi guy ,are you sure that R* arent gonna state any information or reports or new news as for GTA until march , I think the period is very long because we can't wait for at that time .
do ya believe that some news may be sneaked by someone before the offecial announcment .
whynot!
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we have to wait longer than March next year to hear of any info, even perhaps beyond next years E3. Its not in anyway R*'s interest to release any info earlier than they have to this time around.
Remember there's much more at stake with this game, its almost certainly costing R* much more money than any other GTA to produce, we all know how influential GTA is and a lot of other games companies will be pinching ideas from it. All Points Bulletin is also in production, a game which will definitely give GTA a run for its money. And if both games are MMORPG's, people are less likely to invest in the huge amounts of time needed to play both.

yah , I even agree with you ,
but there's an issue ,when we wait for GTA a very long time , then it comes out with some negations which make the game unlike entirly what we hope .
not in necessary entirly it maybe .
therefore we might be stricken by the depression because of the ambitious expectations which we expected.
So we should know at least a little of info about the MFT GTA .......
People's expectations of this game are already way, way, way to high. I do think it will be an extraordinarily big leap from San Andreas but I still think it won't have certain things like changing seasons and the ability to go into every building (two of the most commonly asked for things on these boards) let alone half of the other stuff people ask for. As we all know next gen hardware can deliver a lot but it can't deliver everything.
It will have a big increase in graphics I'm sure but the thing that interests me the most is how much development they've put into the AI. I'd love it if the game actually evolved with the player, it would be great if the cops used strategy instead of just flinging themselves off cliffs to get you. I can't wait to see how the online element pans out too.
But in a a way that's why they won't release any info for a very, very long time. Because other games developers can't wait to see how the game works either, coz they'll want to obviously copy it. If they release the first screen shots tomorrow other games companies will look at them and see the graphic styling of the game and say 'right lets copy GTAIV, we've got a year until it comes out.

possible limitations with DVD-9.
And theres the number one reason why its PS3 than 360 port if anything at all guys. Because why would you want to limit the game. You go big, THAN downsize.
I would bet my left nut that Rockstar is using the Xbox 360 as their main platform and the PS3 will get a port of it.
I'll take that bet. Hope you can still perform just as good next year come October.

QFT, It will definitely be bigger than San Andreas. You people think SA was too big?? Wow you suck as a gamer than, its pretty small if you beat the game and start roaming. I mean cmon they give you a map and yet some of you still complain you get lost. Pfffft.

The thing that sucks is that GTA used to be an exclusive title for playstation, but now it is also on xbox, and I think that they said there would actually downloadable content on the 360 version but not on the PS3.
What happened?

GTA is a great game, i just wish of a few more features of the next one.
Basic physics - Meaning you cant jump from the top of the biggest building on a bicycle and survive. I did this on SA.
Weapons License - Have 3 different levels.
Light Arms -Pistols, Knifes.
Med Arms - Sniper, Shotgun, M9, Uzis's,
Heavy Arms - Flame Thrower, Chain Gun, RPG.
This way if your caught by the fuzz (cops) you can keep your weapons up to your license level. This also fits with another feature I want.
Weapon Upgrades - Rate of Fire, Ammo Clip Size, Accuracy, Range. Self explanatory I think.
Free Running - Like you see these people jump from building to building, running across pipes and jumping from staircases and such. Like seen in Casino Royale. This would make on foot more interesting, and give a couple of more interesting missions.

What are you talking about???? Where did i mention the size of the map in the post you quoted?????

Yeah I think people have a tendency to dream really big when it comes to future GTA games, expectations are so high R* would have enslave their employees to work 24/7 to grant everyones GTA wishes. I've already seen massive *want* lists being created on other forums and submitted to rockstar.
And I bet AI will be one of the primary things in GTA IV that gets dramatic improvment. As long as they dont make it to realistic then it will be great. (cops in real life are impossible to escape from)
Im really hyped on what they do for the online mode, mainly because it will give the game almost infinite replayability. (for me anyways)
Do you guys think R* will suffer from people pirating the game? And from the usual leaks?
R* have always been pretty canny when it comes to pre-release copies of GTA. I don't think anybody from outside the company got to play San Andreas until about a week before it was released. But never the less there was a pirated copy of the game available for download a few days before it was released that R* rightfully tried to come down hard on.
I presume copying Blue Ray disks will be harder but poeple always seem to get round these things eventually.

Who were you talking to again? I think 90% of GTA fans agree with you there. GTA IV will keep its unrealistic elements. Everyone enjoys jumping off mountains and miraculously surviving in San Andreas.
But GTA IV can still have good Cop and Ped. AI, good graphics, advanced interactions, etc. etc.
And still be unrealistic.
dont know if this has been posted already but GTA IV- NYC is a great idea....it will push a lot of units cuz its New York....i'm talking like 30 mil combined

Veiled, after many speculations and many rumours around the play, it would seem that one knows some a little more in connection with AWG IV. Indeed, a member of the head office of Rockstar in New York would have declared that this last would be played in New York at the beginning of the Nineties.
The principal characters would be white and the principal scenario would be based on a conflict between the Russian Maffia and the Maffia Italian. But it is not all, the gameplay would have changed well and the play would be in particular more realistic and neater. They is information would thus come really from Rockstar but they are to be taken with tweezers.
Indeed, it is known all Rockstar likes to reveal his plays at the last time and likes to make thus turn in round the press wait until all that is confirmed. Let us recall that the play is scheduled for October 19, 2007 on our premises

Exactly, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most people DON'T want ULTRA realism but definitely want a good mix of wow this COULD happen, I COULD POSSIBLY do this, and still have an unrealistic view. I don't know where you got the feeling that EVERYONE wants ultra realism. Not you Alternate but the other guy. :) Good day all.

yah , but an idea of coping Blue ray is possiable .
why , because there are a lot of companies whose major in coping Cds andDVDs and maybe BLue Ray .

I remebered a topic I have read .
it is about what about playsation4 .
actually I was surprised because of informations thats written about Graphic of Next-Gen ,
the writer explined some matters which talk about the future rather than how devlopers of games will do on ps3's graphics .
he said that game companies will do like what they did on ps2 when they imposed the weak issues like Graphic on ps2 and improved the movment which made sony'fans attracted to buy it quickly .
Now sony does the same action on ps3 , they made a strong graphic and made some heaviness as addition to movement . so I am sure that these steps sony made , it made a tremendous revolution . and sony will continue slowly in imporving its consoles . and as known the technique has no an end

For the last f***ing time, I will say this to all of the users; the following places will not be set in GTA IV:
NYC - because Liberty City is NYC in GTA III
California - because San Andreas is based off GTA San Andreas.
Miami - because Vice City is 'Miami' in GTA Vice City.

Do you trust R*North that they know what they're doing?
Do you think they would deliberately compromise something as big and important as the first next gen GTA simply because of disc space?
Do you think that just maybe they're inventive enough to surprise us all with every aspect of GTAIV?

Ok, you dont have to be a **** about it. And why is everything on this thread "for the last f***ing time?!???
How would it not be compromised with less disc space? They can make it a little smaller and get more money from another platform. It could be 20gb easily, since san andreas was 9... That would be a single layer blu-ray disc, or 3 dvds.
GTA is always free roaming, so how could they incorporate multiple discs for 360? Cross a bridge to another territory *Please insert Disc 3*

look for the final time San Andreas WAS NOT 9gbs. GTA SA didn't even hit 5gbs. I have the game installed on my pc right now and it takes up 4.6gbs.
GTA 4 will not be on multiple discs for the 360 it is as simple as that. Now before you go "oh that means the xbox will hold the ps3 version back" consider this.
GTA 4 like the previous games will require a certain amount of streaming from the disc as you play the game. Now the ps3 has a 2x speed dvd player that can transfer data at 8.7mbs per sec. The Xbox 360 has a 12x dvd player that can transfer 16.9mbs per sec of data. So technically speaking the 360 can stream data faster than the PS3, which in a game like GTA is an important factor.
Now I am no fanboy, I am keeping my options open, but please realise that the blu-ray drive whilst yes it does offer large storage capacities it does have some disadvantages for some games.
I can tell you now yes the xbox 360 version will be on 1 dual layer disc and most probably it will use compression, not only due to the size of the disc but will also use compression to get past the 16.9mb transfer rate. The same will also be true of the PS3 version, compression of the textures will be used to get past the 8.9mb transfer bottleneck of the blu-ray drive.
I say this in the hope people will get past their obsession with the blu-ray drive. In two or three years from now the storage capacity may be useful for games like GTA but right now 9gbs is more than enough and GTA 4 will be 9gbs or under.

Umm.. San Andreas for PC was released alot later then the ps2 version was released. Maybe they compressed it alot more? Pretty sure the dual layer ps2 disc was maxed out, or at least thats what I heard.
Not reason why I posted so.

Cheat that makes it when a car runs into you, you fly 5 times farther then normal.
Cheat that makes all peds hate and kill cops.
Cheat that allows you to switch character models. Like the "change clothes" cheat in Vice City.
Cheat that allows you to never fall off youir motorcycle and bicycle.

Does anyone else here not care about how much space the Blu-Ray discs will hold, other than myself?
I'm with you there bro!
For those that don't know. The PC version of GTA is BIGGER than the PS2 version, it was much, much less compressed and it also had additional features.
If I remember rightly some guys over at one of the GTA fansites tore apart the San Andreas PS2 disc file shortly after it came out (they were looking to see if there was any truth in the SA Yeti myth) and the game came in at very slightly over 4GB
With downloadable content open to R* the size of the disc medium is much much less important, R* know that which is one of the reasons it can happily come out for both consoles without being compromised.
Do you honestly think R* would compromise GTAIV in anyway? Give them some respect, they know what they're doing.

According to Wikipedia I gathered the following regarding Carcer City...
"Carcer City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcer_City) - Most likely Newark, New Jersey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newark%2C_New_Jersey) or Detroit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit%2C_Michigan). Said to be neighboring Liberty City (Manhunt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhunt_%28video_game%29) takes place in Carcer City; mentioned in Grand Theft Auto III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_III), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_San_Andreas), Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Liberty_City_Stories), and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Vice_City_Stories)) "

Was there any "type" of people missing in San Andreas? I guess it depends what you mean by "type" but I think you mean another country. It would make more sense, I think.

i herd on www.psu.com tht it will have downloadable miniature islands exclusive to the ps3.
Exclusive GTAIV content on PS3!
Added on 17/10/2006.
Earlier today, a member from Rockstar North talked to Eurogamer.com about Microsoft not being the only one getting exclusive content for GTA IV. The PS3 is to receive its own special downloads in the form of brand new areas which add-on to the main GTAIV game world; sort of like an expansion pack.
"Think of the world as a large island - the new downloadable areas will be like smaller islands linking into it," the source stated.
It has yet to be confirmed how many downloads will be available but it does seem that this type of exclusive content would be better than just episodic content the Xbox 360 is getting; new islands (probably new missions as well) vs. episodic content (meaning probably just new missions).
Grand Theft Auto IV is set to release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the U.S. on Oct. 16th. 2007, and on the 19th. in Europe.

Umm.. San Andreas for PC was released alot later then the ps2 version was released. Maybe they compressed it alot more? Pretty sure the dual layer ps2 disc was maxed out, or at least thats what I heard.
Not reason why I posted so.
ChEaT wishes:
Cheat that slows down everything around the character. So you can run circles around everything.
or a Cheat that just lets you run faster.
Cheat that makes motorcycles fly, as well as cars.
Cheat that makes bullets bounce off you.
GTA's have always had crazy cheat codes, so dont say these are unrealistic.

i especially love the first one ,you mean stop time for 1 GTA hour kinda thing?
heres some more,
superhero (like superman but uglier) it could be based around the jetpack but you can fly it like the Stealth jet and its an vehicle thats basically a cape that floats in nowhere till u use it.
cars that can swim, cars can dive underwater.
btw did any of the psp titles have vehicles liek submarines or submarine boats that can dive underwater, if not they should have them,it could be controlled like swimming but unlimited air like ur above ground.
id like submarines so u could have a yellow one.(woo beatles)
id never noticed id double posted but its a bit late to change it now.Srry ppl

Someone mentioned hotwiring cars etc about 100 pages ago. I wasn't physically able to read every single page to check if this had been covered alreadybut.. Having the value of each car pre-determined would be good. That way some cars would need hotwiring some wouldn't. So as you get a little familiar with the game you can tell just by looking whether you can just open the door and start the car or whether you'll have to hotwire it.. Again the more valuable the car the longer it'll take to hotwire. Then goin on from dat you can officially own your car and get it insured (Fully Comp, 3rd Party Fire and Theft, Accidental Damage Fire and theft etc). Then people can break into your garage and steal your car. If it's insured you may get a payout or replacement, if not you have to go find that car again maybe. And also the best cars in the game might come with a tracker.. If you hotwire it the tracker goes off and you eventually have to pay someone to remove it (or locate/destroy it yourself if you have the mechanic skill points maybe) otherwise teh insurence company send a private vigilante firm or something to come find you!

Maybe part of the story line could involve going back/forward in time to either relive previous missions or something like dat. Don't know how that would work or if the PS3 could handle something so complex.
I think public transport needs to be included now. Whether you'd be able to jack that bus, train is up for debate but the possibility is there.
AI is one of the most iomportant thing. Enemy needs to start working more in tandem and do as much to stay alive as possible. Maybe have them throw random stuff from behind cover (bins, can etc) to knock you off balanc/distract you while the rest shoot you. Maybe have rogue police/national gaurd/vigilantes who's sole aim is to erase violence and crime by any means necessary.
Have people take out contracts on you. Then maybe if the include the squad/gang element you could have someone in your crew tip you off that another crew have put a contract out on you. The type of contract could vary (sniper, suicide bomber, booby trap etc) do add a little depth to the game.
Intrduce fighting styles which are effective for for the player and computer.
Let me know what you think about these ideas please. My first post n all that!!!

i just want an online mode on GTA4, if it isnt. the single mode has to have a good story.
i herd on www.psu.com tht it will have downloadable miniature islands exclusive to the ps3.
That is complete and utter speculation probably without much basis in reality. I doubt very much the 'exclusive' content will be as large as whole islands. Its highly likely there will be downloadable content that does extend the physical map size but I'm sure that stuff won't be exclusive. I'm pretty certain the exclusive stuff will be much smaller for both consoles, missions, weapons, cars that sort of thing.
I reckon GTAIV on both consoles will share a lot of common features, the map will probably be the same simply because R*North only have a certain amount of time and man power. To make large map areas exclusive will require a lot more time and effort.
Its a shame in a way that PS3 and 360 users won't be able to play each other in any online element the game might have, there will be two separate leagues.

Not sure why I post this here (mostly because it reminds me of GTA and I want it remade I guess). Worth checking out anywayz, even if it's just for the game-elements and post-apocalyptic settings.

Not really.
If you wanna see what that is like put in the following codes.
Civilians have weapons
Civilians riot
Ciivilians hate you
If you survive longer than 2 minutes in a car without blowing up i will be shocked.
Except minus the Civilians hate you cheat, not everyone online would go straight for you and you alone. It would be sorta hard, but still fun to have 40 player deathmatch. -depends on how big of an area it would take place in.
Did you know you can switch character models in GTA3?
Yes I know. It was in Liberty City and Vice City, but not in San Andreas.

If a deathmatch sort of thing were in online mode, I wouldn't do it. Everyone would attack all the noobs, and the same people would stay on top. (Like the WOW parody that South Park did).
The only way I would play online is if there was a rule that prevented people from killing you right away.
i think if i had the choice of things to put in gta 4 i would
1. make cars fully destructable
2. make it so your goddamn car doesnt explode when it flips( i hate that)
3. deformable terrain(by that i mean you can blow up buildings andbuy lots and build houses)
4. very massive cities and towns.
5. there are never groups of the same cars or people.
6. huge amount of cars and customization 9including your person.
7. unique deaths and random accidents.
8. traffic would depend on what day of the week it was, and there would be months and different climates.

8 would be hard to do,u could have seasons like Canis Canim Edit has though
i've SO wanted the other ones for ages it could even have it so u tnt a house as a part of a mission so tht a certain person dies and it looks like a accident, lol.
love the random accidents thing especially would love some of them to be dead like me style(toilet seat from space kills her)but as long as they don't kill you, just hurt you.pants stuck in your bike and stuff like tht would be fun.

i agree there, they need some thing like a must kill 1 ppl b4 allowed to be killed rule or summat.
or like on ****ty runescape, wer ur only allowed to attack ppl within 5 levels of your own levels like 1-10 section,11-20 and so on.

Why does it matter if your if your car bursts into flames when you flip it? At least if makes it a bit more dramatic and it gives you an incentive in the game play to avoid flipping it in the first place. It would hardly be realistic if your character had the ability to get out of the car and roll it the right way up, no matter how many times he's been to the gym.
No 9 is quite an interesting idea and something I'd thought about. The aging thing is pushing it a bit far but the cuts and wounds could be an interesting way to add to the game play. Its quite odd in GTA at the moment that if you've got 5% of your life left your character can still run as fast as possible and generally seem no worse for it.
Though I don't know how far R*North are going to push the gore on GTAIV.
No 3. That will probably happen to some extent but still doubt you'll be able to blow up buildings.
4. probably true
5 and 6 will be true
7 already happens to a certain extent in San Andreas, I'm sure this sort of AI stuff will happen even more
8 the traffic thing is quite likely and again sort of already happens in SA (you find cooler cars out in the evening) I'm not sure about the whole seasons thing, whether its possible or not. Depends on just how big GTAIV turns out to be.

if they're going to stick with the hunger thing, they could at least make the refrigerators in your apartments workable. i think someone mentioned fully destructible cars, well they need this and they need cars with full properties..in san andreas you can run through the car doors if they're open. the had to hand combat should be killer in this game too!

To be honest, I wish they would change GTA time to normal time, it pisses me off how it's night so quick. :D
And also if it were proper time they could add a good eating/drinking system because you would literally have to drink something everyday, otherwise you'd collapse and go to the hospital. But that would be literally 24 hours. Instead of every 48 minutes you have to eat. Also wherever a mission is there should be somewhere to rest, and there should be a limit of missions you can do per day, like 3 before you have to sleep. And you get a sleep bar, to decide how long to sleep.
I'm sure ill be happy with it either way, just no jetpack, and make it realistic.
This will be the biggest game of 07, no doubt... I for one will line up to get it...

The mission and sleep bar would interfere too much with REAL time gameplay, which I think would be neat. The game time should coincide with your system clock time (ala Animal Crossing) so if you have to do a break in to a house, you better play GTA at 1am or something. That I think would be bomb ass.

it won't, now drop the dead donkey this has been said b4 and it's never gonna happen.the producers of GTA series like to take the piss outta other countries.they are british after all from rockstar north normally,it started in scotland

i came up with a few more ideas while playing san andreas.
1. they need to make different a.i. patterns, for instance maybe a few different scripts for cops so they all dont try to fishtail you. maybe different levels of cops, like some are really hard to avoid and some are really easy.
2. realistic weather, perhaps wind which may make it hard to drive in that direction or when it's in that thunderstorm mode, police helicopters can't chase after you.
3. complete better pedestrian a.i. first they need to stop jumping in front of your car and when they're behind the wheel they need to stop merging into your lane when you're right there.
4. more natural jumps, like sudden buldges in the feilds.
5. i dont know how much space this would take up but if it were possible for cars to just instantly appear. whenever your on the motorcycle and theres not a thing in front of you, you do the behind look and than when you go back to the normal view your just about to crash into a car in front
6. if they stick with the skill bars, maybe an evasion skill, that makes it easier to get away from cops.
7. i really hope they make the cop chases more fun in gta4, the cops are so easy to get away from in san andreas, it left me bored with it after i beat it.
it won't, now drop the dead donkey this has been said b4 and it's never gonna happen.the producers of GTA series like to take the piss of their home country, its part of their charm's wouldn't be funny to it's main market if it was about another country.
especially cos the characters would be lame if it is in the uk, we're all businessmen in London and only the back streets have tough guys but there all druggies or hobos.
whats with peoples real time obsession, that's just stupid it'd be like living Ur real life and eventually bore you, plus it takes long enough to complete when sped up, seriously real time is just stupid since almost all missions are set in the morning or near late at night. not many ppl would wake up @ midnight to rob a house that ain't real.

'The producers of GTA like to take the piss out of their home country"???
GTA is produced by R* who are/were a British company founded in London. GTA's 'home' is actually here in Scotland where it was born and, apart from motion capture, all of it is still made by R*North.
My bet is it will probably be set out with the US this time with London being a very likely setting. Despite what some people say there really isn't any valid reason why it couldn't be set in a city based on London.

4 star: All available units dispatched, contacting neighboring precincts and jurisdictions for assistance. More heat. SWAT notified for gear up.
5 star: All jurisdictions and precincts contacted for code 3 chase, hot pursuit. Air units contacted as available by jurisdiction. SWAT contacted and dispatched.
6 star: All units everywhere approach suspect. Local military offices notified, SWAT and other forces attempt to no longer apprehend you but kill you.
7 star: Military mobilized, all options being considered. Shoot on sight.
8 star: You have 5 minutes to get rid of the heat or you will be hit with a nuclear bomb, complements of the Navy/Air Force.

i mentioned that there should be seasons in the game like there were in bully.
it would be cool...
Yeah seasons would add a lot to the atmosphere and realism of the game. Thinking about it, one day in a GTA game is 24 minutes, so one year would be exactly 146 hours. So to play through one whole season would require you to play for 36.5 hours! The seasons would have to change faster than every 3 months (in GTA time), otherwise most poeple would only see a couple of seasons before they stop playing it.
In fact, i think it might be better to just have loads of different weather conditions occuring randomly, Like snow for a few days, then storms, then sunny etc. Just blame it on global warming or something...

January 12, 2004 - While everyone else was running around doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, Take-Two Interactive registered 10 Grand Theft Auto-related trademarks on December 17 and 21, 2003, including both GTA: Sin City and GTA5. If you have been following the news on GTA recently, you probably already know this.
But there is more to the GTA trademark story than first revealed. More than three or four GTA-related name were registered in December. Eight of these trademarks were registered on December 17. The ones you already know about are GTA5, GTA6 and GTA: San Andreas.
However, several more were registered, including five more trademarked names, GTA: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: Sin City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the entirely unheard of Grand Theft Auto: Bogota and GTA: Bogota.
It gets even better. Four days later, on December 21, 2003, when even fewer people were paying attention, Take-Two Interactive also registered another one entirely new prospective title, GTA: Tokyo and Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo.
It's clear Take-Two has long-term plans for GTA, this we knew and expected, given it's the most popular series on PS2 and arguably the most influential game in this generation of systems. And, without using too much brainpower, we knew that the franchise would continue moving from town to town, both exciting and smart.
With so many names trademarked at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office web site for the series, it's likely that two things are happening: 1) A few of these names are red herrings to keep fans guessing as to the next locale, or 2) they're names for games appearing in the long-term future. We tried to contact representatives at Rockstar, but at press time we have not had any official reply. We'll have more on the GTA series very soon.

this caught my eyes, what you guys think?
hm, i think this is definitely intersting. as they say, rockstar plans in long time terms. it's from 2003.. i think it is at least possible they already had plans in mind for the next generation, and they thought of how the series would be presented after every single game..
gta3 was far better than the expectations. gta vc was a blockbuster in its time. and gta sa already is one of the most impressive games, mainly because of its huge map with thousands of things to waste your time with.
i really think it's possible they have plans since 2003 how they could top san andreas and make it better than any of our expectations is set. so they could have known what place it could be set in and they acquired some possible names.
but it's also possible they already acquired some other names for the next sequels noone yet knows about :D

yeah as far as we know all this is speculating but who knows how long rockstar has been in works for the game already because its about to be released next year in october. how long does it take for a gta game to be fully devloped? 3 to 4 years?

we need news asap, I want to know where it takes place and that is it. After that I want to know what system is it specifically being developed for. I want to know if it will take advantage of blu-ray or not. Since nothing is guaranteed, I hope it becomes a timed exclusive to the PS3, because if that happens then everyone will benefit greatly from it, even if they have to wait a little longer. I sick of God Damn cheap, half-assed ports. Rockstar is too smart and good of a company to shoot themselves in the foot like that. Being a huge GTA fan, I expect sooo much more this gen, interactivity on an unthinkable level. Huge maps with little wasted space, good AI and everything else that would make GTA even greater. All this is not possible on a single DVD9, but it is on Blu-ray. If it means multiple disks for 360, then let it be. This game is going to be nothing short of spectacular.

How many times do we need to go over this, DVD9 has more than enough space for a mindboggling GTAIV and anyway disc space is utterly irrelevant with downloadble contenet, we've been through these arguments so many times. There is no way GTAIV will come on more than one disc for the 360, it doesn't need to. Anyway DVD9 can hold a GTA over twice the size of San Andreas, and obviously thats without any downloadable extras. Being realistic just for a second, how much bigger do you want GTAIV to be? And as loads of people have pointed out before Blue Ray may hold a lot more data than DVD9 but the lazer reading it is incredibly slow, not something you want with a game like GTA which streams a lot of data as the game is played. Some people have even gone so far as to argue that it might be the capabilities of Blue Ray that holds future GTA's up, not DVD9.
You're right, GTAIV will be utterly spectacular. Do you trust R* not bring out a 'cheap half arsed port' of a game as important as GTA? Do you think they know what they're doing?

On another note I hope they keep the jetski's from GTA VCS they were so much fun. Another cool vehicle was the amphibious 6 wheel ATV that had potential even if it was a bit too slow in the water.

If you trail across the various other GTA forums the blue-ray versus DVD9 debate is still as strong as it ever was and people are still endlessly going on about how 'GTAIV would so much more amazing than it is if only it were filling a 50GB blue-ray disc'. Why wouldn't they try and fit as much as they could. Every GTA game has been progressively bigger then the last. Just because they are going multi-platform doesn't mean they would hold back due to DVD9's lack of space. I bet they will take full advantage of BD.

What are you talking about??? The question you got so upset about in the first place was about disc storage so obviously my answer was about disc storage
You don't have to look very far to find out that those who want to find out about GTA seem to have disc storage, and the 360's arguable lack of it, very much as one of their concerns, fantastically dull to you and I as that may be. So what I'm trying to get across is that DVD9 will in no way hinder GTAIV

Just blame it on global warming or something...
they can use the same seasons they used on bully.

What do you guy's think the possibilities are of them making the world? I'm really not sure how big of a map they could fit on a BD, seeing as how all the textures are more than likely going to be very detailed. Also given the game type, they can't really down grade some textures for areas that the gamer wouldn't normally see. Like for instance in racing games.
I think this would be very cool, make a smaller version of earth, and as you get further into missions they start branching out. Some one needs your help in Tokyo lets say for instance, you finish that and your off to London now. All accessible through an air port.
Also i wonder what the chances of them adding a space station. Possibly setting up nukes in orbit for missions? taking over the world. lol oh the possibilities.

I thought San andreas was too small, in takes like 2 minutes (if that) to cross the entire map in a plane. I knew roughly where i was in San Andreas but not like knowing every street like in GTA3. I think having a very large GTA4 would be great because you would always be finding new places that you had never found before.
The entire world... nah thats way too big but maybe triple the size of San Andreas would make me happy.

I personally love San Andreas, infact I am still playing it right now and typing this on my other pc. I think Rockstar were almost there size wise with San Andreas, the main problem though was lots of areas just felt a bit "pointless". I also felt there wasn't an awful lot of interplay with the three main cities, it was like "you did Los Santos, now you move on to San Fierro".
I think if the map was bigger than SA you would start to put a lot of people off. If I was to make a prediction about GTA 4 I would say we are probably looking at a SA sized map again only this time there will be more for us to do, but if we were to dream then I am looking forward to strapping on the skis and going off piste with my double uzi's lol.

I really don't think we're going to see any information on this game until a month before release. This is the one title you do not have to hype at all. Just mention Grand Theft Auto and 95% of PS owners are foaming at the mouth. Everyone i know that owns a PS2 owns a GTA game, and loves the series. You gotta be crazy not to like it lol.
Remember though guys R* were all but forced by M$ into admitting that GTAIV was indeed a reality and was coming out in October 2007. The offical GTAIV splash page appeared almost as if they had to put something up after M$ blew the lid on the whole thing.
I'm not so sure San Andreas sets any kind of precedant for how things will work for the GTAIV promotion. Actually if I remember rightly Game Informer were by no means the first to brake the news that San Andreas was even the title, the GTA-Sanandeas.com website was around a full 18 months before the title was even made official, It was pretty easy to guess that San Andreas would be the title of it going by strong clues in VC and GTAIII
This time around there is nothing to go on, everybody is guessing and thats exactly the way R* want it and they want it for as long as possible. You've got to remember there is so much more at stake this time around for R*, we all know how influencial GTA is as a franchise, loads of other games designers out there will be waiting to see what ideas R*North have up their sleeve and everything from how the online part of the game will work to what the next gen stylings of the graphics are like will be looked at in close detail by R*'s competitors.
Thats why I reckon there may be some truth in the story that R* aren't releasing any info whatsoever before maybe next May or June at the earliest.

aaah, many many pages and still no news! I have had a thought though, regarding the ever thorny subject of DISK SPACE! We can't really estimate how much disk space they need for a next-gen GTA as no gta has had hi-def graphics yet, therefore we can't say how much space will be needed to make a large enough game. We also know that both the PS3 and Xbox360 have different storage media and are promising some form of exclusive on their version of the game. Has anyone thought that the PS3 version might come out with extra radio stations, maybe some extra car models and some different peds. You see, we can't have the game differing too much from the other version as it wouild be a lot of extra work to implement, however we can have extras to help utilise some of the gargantuan storage capacity available to the BlueRay.

I was thinking about the size of SA and that was pretty big and pretty awesome. I dont think they necessarily have to go bigger than that, just make it so we can go into almost every building.

Hmm I actually think its M$ who will have the last laugh. The main reason, as stated by Mr Gates, that M$ chose to only go with a 9GB max disc size for porting games is that there is really no need to go for anything larger if you've got downloadable content. Infact its not unreasonable to say that both DVD9 and Blu-Ray will both be pretty much obsolete for porting games within both the the PS3 and 360's lifetime, everyone will just be downloading their games online. So if that happens who's got the most to loose? Presumably Sony seeing how costly Blu-Ray is to them. I'm no fan of M$ but they may have made the better decision to go with the less costly DVD9.
Also remember Blu-Ray may have a much greater capacity but its also much much slower (its only a X2 reader) so R* will have to have been pretty clever with how the disc streaming works on GTAIV if its going to run with any semblance of speed compared to the 360 (isn't the 360's DVD9 drive a X12 reader?)
ps The latest rumour going around is that GTAIV is being optimised for both consoles running on seperately written versions of the R* RAGE engine, so its not being ported to either.

I see were you getting at mmmm Thats a Very good point!
Downloadable content and all. mmmm
I just have 1 question how much of it will you be able to keep on a 20gb hard disk drive?
Ps3's is ugradable the biggest 2.5' is like 140GB.
The more game you need the more downloadable content available and the more space youl need to house all of it WITHOUT any compromise.
Very good point tho:rolleyes:
PS: The Ps3's Drive, reads data at a consistent 9mB thruout the ENTIRE disk, the 360 Varies wildly fastest at the outer edge slowest at the inner edge, i think it slows dow to 4.5mB if i remember corectly

Actually it hasn't proven to be any slower, that was just early speculation. So than why is the 360 game Blue Dragon coming out on THREE discs for the Xbox360???????

Excellent point Shadow, the XBox 720 WILL have HD-DVD and it will come out sooner than later because M$ needs it to compete with the PS3 come 3-4 years down the road. The lifespan of the 360 will be very small compared to other consoles.

Why is Blue Dragon coming out on Three discs? Presumably because its to big to fit on one. My point about disc size being nearly irrelevent is a prediction about the future (probably 5 years from now) not about how things work right now.
Remember both Sony and MS want the lifetime of their respective next gen consoles to be a lot longer than the current lot. In 5 years from now hard drives will be vastly larger and broadband massively faster, downloading and storing 30GB games won't be difficult.
Also check the specs of both DVD9 and Blu-Ray DVD9 is the faster of the two though as has been pointed out its speed is variable depending on where on the disc is being read
DVD9 max speed reading 15.9MB per sec
Blu Ray max speed reading 8.2 per sec
Not that it matters hugely for all games but it does for games that stream a lot of data as the games played, like San Andreas for example, but we don't know how GTAIV will work yet.

It has to be London then they will have completed all the cities in GTA1. Even though London was just an expansion of sorts for GTA1 its still apart of the game. GTA5 will start the cities in GTA2.
I really hope it is not in London. They should return to Liberty City. Go back to the mafia story line. I think Rockstar made a hint about a possible plot at the end of LCS in a cutscene.

One thing i really hope they change in GTA4 is the wanted stars thing. Like tone it down a bit, i get 5 stars in VCS and 10 cars come flying towards you in 20 seconds. I want them to make it more realistic, like have a 3-5 cars chasing depending on the wanted level and then have a road block every now and then, but not on every second street.

It wouldn't really be a step back if that one city was unbelievably detailed and better in every way than all the cities of San Andreas put together.
I don't think it will only be one city though, not in the long run anyway. I'm sure you'll be able to download more and more countryside, towns cities etc as GTAIV developes over the coming years
And remember GTA cities are generally loosely based on real places, with a London GTA they could still do a lot with the surrounding countryside to make it more dramatic
Yes, a true breathing city with incredible detail would be better than a big map with little detail.
