I can't believe people are already bashing this game. It hasn't even came out yet and all we've had so far is just teasers! The trailer didn't tell us much besides the setting and the intro to the character.

1 City not enough? News Flash: NYC has 5 big boroughs!! Think of SA crammed up in a tight space. There will be plenty to do in each one.

It's way too early to start judging the game. We don't know what the missions will be like. We don't know how long the game will be. We don't know if we might be able to go to VC or SA. There's way too much information that hasn't even been addressed yet.

That's true. Plus think about how much empty space there was in San Andreas (that noone hardly ever used). The reason IV won't be as big because every part will be used fully since there's not supposed to be any big open spaces.

Exactly! Do we need a 'Rockstar Defense Force' or something? Sheesh...

Ok, because of R* not putting in planes, multiple cities etc. - they have to make what it there amazing. Cars shouldnt have the same crappy engine noises like in SA, crash damage should be good, a lot of buildings should be enterable, detail on all surroundings has to be great too.

i love GTA lol. I think the best GTA is GTA 1 and GTA 2 on the PS1. GTA LONDON included. The others were great also. But honestly i really hope this game is going to be in 1080p and better gaming, missions, maps, weapons, cloths, and being able to put your own music into the game because SONY birthed this game. Show us some respect. Don't sell us a xbox game on our ps3. Its not fair to us. We have 50GB of blu ray disc. USE IT!!!!!:suspect:

Yeah, that is so true. I do not care if they give Microsoft online advantages, but wasting all the capacity of the Blue Ray, is really sad and stupid because is like we are still stuck in the past, the new generation is now, and we all know that HD-DVD are ****, and will disappear in a couple of years.

My hope is that R* is using GTA4 as a development opportunity for HD gaming and the only reason it is multi-console is to negate the cost of this at the early stage of next-gen consoles. I hope that when it comes to GTA5 (or whatever is next) that R* have no other choice but to make it PS3 only because of the sheer size of the game and that it has to be distributed on a BD.

We all live in hope, but as long as GTA4 is a good game, I'll still play it.

WHat you guys think the next GTA is going to be?
GTA: Vice City 2 ?

There is not GTA5 for a long time,
WHat you guys think the next GTA is going to be?
GTA: Vice City 2 ?

Perhaps GTA:5 will be in London? IV is supposed to end the story for GTA:III (III, Vice City, San Andreas) and everyone thought this one they would do London... but I really didn't see it making sense for a storyline to take place ONLY in the U.S. and then have that story line finish thousands of miles away where only a few of the characters from the game had been.

Since I don't think they've revealed which system the main build was built on... I'm hoping it's the PS3.

I can't wait to see new details about this game such as:
*Will your clothes look better than in San Andreas? I didn't like the styles they had... and they were stuck to your body. The screenshots make it look like that still for peds but hopefully Niko's clothes will fit realistically.

*How will you get items/money? Since it would be un-realistic for an immigrant to purchase a gun from a store will this mean you have to buy weapons on the black market? Will you still get them from Ammunation? When you kill someone does money fall out of them and float around or will you have to take their wallet? Will you be able to pick pocket?

*How is the weather/seasons? Since the game is supposed to be more realistic does this mean much better weather effects and also seasons? Will see leaves change color and fall or at least snow? Will water stay around and make things wet and shiny?

*How about crimes committed? Will it still be like previous games where you pay money and just lose your guns then go free? It could be like you get so many days in jail and the number of days could show up on your stats page. This is one aspect I hope they don't make realistic and don't force you to sit in a jail cell.

*How will police AI be during a chase? I know in the past game they'll drive right next to you and if you go by a pole/wall they'll stay there and run right into it. Will their cars still be 5x faster than any other car... except when you're in it? They could have un-marked cars and it'd be cool to see suburban police vehicles. If there are no helicopters in the game will there still be police helicopters?

*The Liberty Tree. Will we be able to read the newspaper? It would be pretty cool if you could read recent news, weather forecasts and I'm sure R* could create some funny news stories.

*The night time aspect. New York, sorry Liberty City, is a much different place at night. I can't wait to see video/pictures of how it looks during night time, what kind of people are out and what happens.

*Leisure time. Can you go see the Liberty City ****s[roosters] play a game? Even if you can't actually go into the game and see what happens it'd be cool to be able to purchase a ticket then go into the building.

*Building size. Hopefully a building will be huge outside and not just the inside. Some of the buildings are supposed to be huge but then you can walk around them in a short time and some that you go in, it's actually bigger inside than it is outside. R* said there wouldn't be any load times so it'd be cool if this means you can just walk right into the building with no black screen. For one it would mean the sizes would be the same inside and out.

I'm sure there's more but that's all I got for now.

i loved all the GTA's because its a filler game, in the long run I dont class it as a proper game because I just get bored of doing the missions, but when I just want a quick game on something at least its a game that gives me the opportunity to blast out a few caps.

I cant wait for GTA 4 to come out because the graphics on the trailer look so good (the same cant really be said for the facial visuals though) Though I would liek it if it gave you abit more diversity, like choice of character, like mayabe if you could be a policeman or a politician or just a normal person. Ok maybe not a politician unless you could order the army to turn on the civilians

I just can not wait for this game. I will like to see the freedom you will have. Maybe you can meet people in the street or in a club, you will get their phone number or email. What i read in Game Informer was that the police will be very hard to bet, and also they talk about the impossible duty of become the king of the city. I also hope that in the first missions they do not full your pockets of money like in the past games. I will like to be very hard to make money.

If you want to ask questions about this game you can email the guy at Game Informer that played it and he may ask your question in the next Game Informer magazine.

Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner (the only journalist so far to have to played Grand Theft Auto IV) is accepting questions about his experience, and he will do his best to answer as many of them as possible. From the GI site..

"We're gearing up for a huge Game Informer Unlimited, and we’re betting you have a lot of questions about the May World Exclusive Cover Story about Grand Theft Auto IV. There’s only one person at Game Informer that has actually seen the game in action, and that’s Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner.

"So what do you want to know about Rockstar’s latest creation? Ask Reiner! We’re not going to guarantee Reiner will be able to answer all of your questions, but he’s going to try!

"Send an e-mail to askReiner@gameinformer.com with all of your Grand Theft Auto questions, and we’ll have a list of questions and answers in the May 2007 edition of Game Informer Unlimited (which launches Monday, April 23rd).

"Feel free to add your name, age, and location if you want to be credited with your question. If you want to be anonymous, that’s fine too! Just let us know.

"All of the Ask Reiner About Grand Theft Auto IV Questions will be cut off at 5pm CST on Thursday, April 19th. What are you waiting for? Send all of your Grand Theft Auto IV questions to askReiner@gameinformer.com!

Remember he can only tell us about what he saw, so don't waste your time asking about multiplayer or whether there will be a PC version etc, because he doesn't know. Thanks to Jordan from our partner site for the heads up. Discussion as always is at our forums.

My thoughts are this:

GTA:IV Will introduce a new game engine, new way of doing things, news systems, new styles of gameplay.

GTA:V[what ever the sequel is] Will use the concepts introduce in GTA:IV and apply it to all the things we want. Eg Planes will be introduced but will be more realistic, as in will be more affected my atmosphere, will land more realistically, will get real damage when shot....

R* most likely will cut down GTA:IV to the Basics that were in GTA:3 and then will in the sequels build it back up to quality it was in GTA:SA except with a whole new level of realism that you can't just apply in one update. Improving GTA will be like improving a house. You need to remove the furniture and cut the power then demolish the house and rebuild it, paint it, then was it's built add back in the furniture and get the usable part of the house right after you got the structure and feel right. (Does anyone else agree? what are everyone thoughts on that?)

Remember this is R* they been with us too in the journey that is GTA, they aren't going to want to see the game diminished to a crappy franchise like mario, pokemon or any game by EA. They're just like us, they want to see it improve and get better. Don't believe me? Well think of it like this, we have all got attached to the game just by playing... they worked night and day CREATING IT... this is their little baby, having made software myself I can tell you, you get attached to it like how an artist can get attached to painting, you don't want to change it if it makes it worse only if it makes it better.

04-18-2007, 08:17
I agree that it's possible but if R* want to still be the king of the genre, they are going to need to prove it again after some of the new gen games that are considered rivals (saints row, 2 days to vegas, getaway 3 etc) all these games look quite impressive and bring some new and interesting concepts to the snadbox style games so R* must show why it has been the best, that being said I expect nothing less than a excellent game although r* always fufill that expectation.

I'm going to have a hard time choosing between the 360 version and the PS3 version.
This is big game for me and I'm going to want the most appropriate version.
Right now, i'm leaning towards the 360 version because of the rumble but it depends on load times etc.

Won't happen since Rockstar will get lazy and because the 360 is the main platform. (IMO)

Here's some new information from www.gta4.net

* The main character, Niko Bellic, is in his mid-thirties "on the run from a dark past". He's not customizable as it was possible in GTA: San Andreas, but you'll be able to style him with different outfits. The reason for this is that after they got Niko's physics and look "dead right", it was difficult implementing features that will allow the customization of his body.
* The borough, Staten Island, was not added to the game because the team decided that it would not be a fun location to play in.
* Missions are more realistic, longer, varied, and will have multiple possible outcomes.
* R* is still deciding whether bridges will be used to cordon off certain areas. Dan states that it's not a block for block recreation.
* This time round they're trying to make Liberty City feel more fluid, and there not being any "dead spots" or "irrelevant space" as you drive through it.
* There's no more loading screens when crossing islands or entering interiors; certain interiors are see-thru and you can move through them seamlessly.
* The mob will be featured in GTA IV, just not as lead characters.
* "Virtually none" of the characters from the previous games are returning, and a lot of them are dead anyway according to Dan.
* More side-activities are promised, and pedestrians and traffic flow is different depending on the time of day.
* Pedestrians are a lot more intelligent, realistic and diverse, using mobile phones, cash machines, eating snacks, reading news papers and interacting with each other through laughter, threatening remarks etc.
* Your mobile phone can be used to set up deals or arranging ambushes - you can call the shots. More on this promised later.
* Driving and shooting is more organic, fluid, and precise.
* Despite earlier rumors, the game isn't trying to be photorealistic, but things such as artificial intelligence and the behaviors of pedestrians reacting to things such as a weapon being pulled out in front of them has been worked on a lot.
* As stated before, there isn't any planes, but players will be able to pilot helicopters. The reason being that there is not enough room for flying, and crossing the map will be too fast this way. One airport is confirmed to be in the game.
* The goal of GTA IV is to make the city look more populated than anything else people have seen before in a game like this.
* Houser states that no-one has attempted to recreate a location of this size, and with so much detail, ever before.
* The use of Sony's SIXAXIS controller for the PlayStation 3 has not yet been decided on.
* As expected, there's no more pop-ups of buildings and trees as we've seen in the past.
* Work on the game started right after the release of GTA: San Andreas in November 2004.

That's all some pretty nice stuff to hear but I wanna see a gameplay video.

360 Hindering GTAIV?
Rockstar says Microsoft's console is limiting the game's progress.
by Daemon Hatfield

May 3, 2007 - Lately we've seen several examples of publishers and developers favoring the Xbox 360 over the PlayStation 3. Some developers have complained that the PS3 is difficult to develop for, and top publishers have been making previously Sony-exclusive games available on Microsoft's console, where the install base is much higher. But one high-profile developer is sticking up for the PS3.

An interview with the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine reveals that Rockstar's creative VP Dan Houser believes the 360 is impairing the development of Grand Theft Auto IV. According to the magazine's online partner, Computer and Videogames, Houser says the lack of a guaranteed hard drive and the smaller storage space of the DVD format is limiting the game's progress. In contrast, all PS3s have a built-in hard drive and the console's Blu-Ray format can hold about five times as much content as DVD.

Houser does admit that of the two consoles, "both have enormous challenges," and "both have their own particular pleasures and pains."

"To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet," Houser explained.

GTAIV is scheduled to ship simultaneously for the 360 and PS3 on October 17.

We'll see how this ends up, but I'd hate to see the ps3 version suffer because of the 360.

New details to Grand Theft Auto IV (05/11/07)

- Here are further details on Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, Xbox 360) from the Australian 'Official PlayStation Magazine' (thanks at Wehmer).

- If a passenger jostles Niko away, Niko would just push him away to the side in the style of Assassin's Creed.

- one can hear the bass of the music and/or the radio of cars that pass by.

- Niko can operate cash dispensers. He is able to deposit money at it: So, If one dies, then perhaps only the money is lost, which one had straight with itself. The player can be attacked/ambushed in terms of robbery by other people. In addition, Niko can corrupt/buy somebody over for his own purposes.

- manual aiming of GTA San Andreas was revised and improved, is now much easier to handle.

- in a scene Niko was to be seen, how he went into a shabby side street/back alley. There does waste & garbage lay around, the scene is covered partially by rampant weeds and homeless people are warming themselves at burning tons/barrels.

- Nikos animations are very fluent when he runs in a slow manner, when he is running around a corner of heading a curve his body leans correctly to the side (edit: compared to real life conditions due to centrifugal force or whatever/forced by the balance awareness of the body) . If Niko gets hit by a car, he stumbles back until he has his full control of body when "no force is anymore applied".

- If Niko breaks the glass plate of a cars side door, one can clearly see, how the shattered glass bursts into the car on the seat and onto the street. after breaking the glass plate, he climbs into the car through the window and hot-wired the car. The broken glass remains lying on the road.

- soils/grounds made from cement or crushed stone feel and sound differently/individually themselves when walking over them.

- the functions of the mobile telephone are to hold endless possibilities according to R*.

- GTA IV is not a successor of GTA III or GTA San Andreas, but a completely new version with some ideas from the predecessors.

- compared to GTA San Andreas there arent going to be much more cars & weapons in GTA4 when it comes to variety.

- Ground zero is excluded from the game because such an "empty" surface/place would'nt be very exciting according to Dan Houser.

(edit: lame excuse, i guess. Of course its due to political correctness/respect for the tradegy and the victims...)

- buildings are not destroyable. Houser says: 'Cause if one would be able to destroy the entire city, how should he procced mission-wise?

- A first person perspective was all the time out of question for R* and stood never to the debate.

- a large part of the gameplay mechanics takes place on the building roofs.

- R* did not think about a GTA San Andreas Stories, because they have other things on their mind at the very moment.

NOTE: To make this post not so long I put a lot of the stuff in reveal tags and I scaled down the images. If a lot of people don't like the reveal tags I can remove them.

Grand Theft Auto: IV Information
All this information is from different times, so some might be outdated and I only put the most important info as there was a lot to read through.

* There's no more loading screens when crossing islands or entering interiors.
* "Virtually none" of the characters from the previous games are returning.
* More side-activities are promised, and pedestrians and traffic flow is different depending on the time of day.
* Pedestrians are a lot more intelligent, realistic and diverse.
* Your mobile phone can be used to set up deals or arranging ambushes - you can call the shots.
* The use of Sony's SIXAXIS controller for the PlayStation 3 has not yet been decided on.
* There's no more pop-ups of buildings and trees as we've seen in the past.
* Work on the game started right after the release of GTA: San Andreas in November 2004.
* Dan Houser is quoted saying that the Liberty City in GTA IV is bigger than any single city they've done before, giving a more clear indication of the physical size of the game. He continues saying that the "detail" of the game is the big thing.
* He also confirms Central Park to be in the game, though it's fictional name is still unknown to us.
* Dan says that they're "certainly evolving the way the radio works". He says the same for police behavior and their reaction to crimes.
* "Fun ridiculous" weapons is said to be in the game, because R* is not going too "naturalistic".
* When selecting your mobile phone, a zoomed-in version of the mobile screen pops up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, where you can use its address book to pitch for "jobs" with gang contacts among other things.
* When Niko pulls out a pistol, a crosshair with a simple black cross within a circle shows up on the screen. This could be an indication of manual aiming being available in the game.
* Niko will be able to climb and descend exterior fire escapes and some meetings will take place high in the office buildings of skyscrapers. It's said that from on top of them you'll be able to throw people off.
* Hand to hand combat is also being reworked on for GTA IV, and will feel "much more natural" than before.
* One of the radio stations includes an "Eastern European-sounding" dancing station.
* Players will be able to change their camera views whilst in a car according to their needs.
* For confirmation, boats will be making a return and the handling is "really nice".
* During the demo, Niko was seen approaching a bus stop. When he reached it, an icon appeared on-screen that enabled him to control the bus schedule.
* When Niko pulls out a weapon, the camera positions itself above his shoulder, and a view-finder appears at the centre of the screen. It's possible to lock a target and move laterally to avoid incoming shots.
* Stealing a car can no longer be done simply by opening the door and driving off. Now it involves Niko approaching the car sneakily, breaking the glass with his elbow, using the injection cables to start the car, and only then can he use it.
* Niko can freely climb wherever possible (telephone poles, fire escapes etc.)
* The graphical improvements are clearly evident when walking over a grating on the sidewalk. You can see what is underneath it, and the light trickles realistically around the iron bars.
* During the demo, when Niko passed an ATM machine a message appeared on the screen indicating a button to press in order to access his funds.
* As part of GTA IV's new physics, you'll be able to hear/feel the bass of vehicles passing by with their radio turned on.
* Rockstar says that the usual GTA driving controls have been tremendously tweaked and enhanced.
* When selecting a contact on your mobile phone, a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here" etc.
* Playing the single player game through co-operative mode is not possible, however there will be a co-op mode in addition to all the other unknown multiplayer modes.

Ruslana, Ukrainian female singer, casted to play a voice role of an unknown character.
http://www.gta4.net/news/3900/first-voice-actor-for-gta-iv-announced/

While we've seen some tremendous voice talent in past Grand Theft Auto games, this is still something Rockstar Games tend to not make an emphasis about, or even use it as a way to market their games, as similar game publishers tend to do.

Even so, we have news today about the first voice actor announced for Grand Theft Auto IV. As reported by Esctoday, on the website of the winner of the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, Ruslana, it is indicated that the female singer will be traveling to New York City to record the voice of a certain character in the game, which currently is to be remained secret. In addition to voicing, some of her older and newer songs will be featured on the soundtrack of the game.

While we can't say at this time which character she'll be voicing, it is worth noting that she is Ukrainian, thus giving an indication on what sort of character to possibly expect. For more on Ruslana, visit the links below...

Game Informer Q&A

1. Kobe Asks: I heard that you can’t fly in Liberty City anymore. What is up with that?! Flying is one of my favorite parts of this series!

This is incorrect. There are no airplanes in the game, but flying is still there. One means of this is the helicopter. As Dan pointed out, this is just one city and a plane really doesn’t fit into that very well for gameplay. Flying is still very much a large part of the game.

2. Did you see any female pedestrians? Are there any good looking chicks?

Sigh.... Truth be told, I’m curious why anyone would want to know this. Is this really one of the top questions? If my memory serves me correctly, I don’t recall myself thinking “man, that chick is banging” or “I find myself strangely attracted to this game”, but I can confirm that there are female pedestrians in the game. There’s a ton of ‘em, too. They shop. They talk. They even wear clothing.

3. Did you see some indication of seasons (winter, summer, spring...)?

Sadly, the demo that Rockstar presented was only about 15 minutes in length. Time of day definitely progresses, but whether it progresses throughout an entire calendar year remains to be seen.

4. How is the AI? Are the enemies smarter? Can they find cover?

This is another area that Rockstar is keeping under wraps at the moment. I can, however, tell you that I saw a truck driver swerve onto the sidewalk right in front of where we were walking. This strange little incident also took the Rockstar representatives by surprise. It almost looked like the driver was drunk, but then again, he could have just been in a hurry too.

5. Is it possible to climb on a ladder?

I didn’t see Niko climb a ladder, per se, but I did see him ascend a telephone pole to get a bird’s eye view of Liberty City. He didn’t climb up it like a gorilla, however. He simply pulled himself up on the series of rungs on the pole. This feat was actually quite impressive. You could clearly see his weight transfer from side to side as he moved up the pole.

6. Can you speak with other pedestrians on the street?

Niko seemed to have other things on his mind than talk with pedestrians. The people we passed, however, were very vocal.

7. Chester Asks: What was the first mission in the game, and what was you first word when you saw this new game?

I didn’t get to see the first mission in the game, but if I had to guess, I would imagine it would have something to do with the taxi stand that Niko’s cousin runs. As for my first word…I can’t print it here, but I did follow it up with “Oh my God!”

8. Matt Asks: Did it seem to you like Liberty City was an authentically sized city? A problem that I had with San Andreas was that you could drive to a coast in two minutes. Do you think it will be different this time?

Great question. In terms of scale, it definitely feels more like a realistic city. It feels you are traversing New York City. As you’ve seen in the trailer, there are a number of ways to traverse this massive area.

9. We didn't see any boats in the trailer, what can you tell us about them?

Dan wouldn’t go into specifics on this one, but the only type of vehicle he said that wouldn’t be in the game was the airplane. So this should point to boats still being a part of the GTA experience.

10. What can you say about the graphics quality? Can you compare the trailer to the game, is the trailers quality better or worse?

Rockstar is still putting polish on the graphics. The demo I saw was definitely a step up from the trailer…which is kind of ridiculous given how great it looked already.

11. Can you buy properties like you could in Vice City?

Again, no specifics were given, but Dan did say that this isn’t a game of real estate, or from rags to riches. I wouldn’t be surprised if you eventually do find new places to call home, but it sounds to me like properties might be handled in a different way – perhaps tied to moments in the story.

12. Will there be girlfriends like in San Andreas? If yes, can you marry them?

What is with you people and your woman-related questions. Yes, there are girlfriends. I forgot to ask if you could marry them.

13. Zhooles Asks: Unusual vehicles. Will be there any and if will, name them please.

Rockstar wouldn’t reveal anything in the demo, but strange vehicles are very much a part of the GTA experience. Dan said that much of the game revolves around Niko. I have a feeling that the choice of the vehicles does as well.

14. Aaron Hall Asks: Rockstar have said that the cars in GTA IV will have all new physics to them and the camera will be closer to allow a better driving perspective of cruising Liberty city and seeing more detail on the cars.Could you please elaborate on the experience of driving best as possible and what’s new to the experience? Thanks.

From what I was shown, the only new element was breaking the window of the car to get in. The animation for this was awesome, and something I wish I had seen more than once. The car I saw was newer in make – which was evidenced in both the beautiful crimson sheen and suspension that handled pot holes and variances in the road with ease. Now, I only saw one car, but it really did have that new car look to it. It’ll be interesting to see how Rockstar handles the shocks and struts for other vehicles in the game.

If I had to give a comparison, I would say that the new camera angle positioning is more like Midnight Club now. It’s closer, allowing the player to see more of the minute detailing on the car, and also lower, allowing you to see more of the horizon and verticality of the city.

15. Alex Sheridan Asks: As far as the surrounding area of Liberty City goes, what can we expect to see in things such as countryside relative to San Andreas?

From what I am told, you will not see countryside like you did in San Andreas. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if the expanded content that Rockstar is planning through Xbox Live will offer new areas to explore. I can definitely see them adding a fifth borough to Liberty City, but outside of this, anything is possible.

16. Have you seen members of any mobs in the game? If yes, which? Is new Liberty City a detailed copy of NY, or just is looking like it? Are there houses enterable without loading?

I didn’t see any mob members, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Rockstar didn’t reveal everything to me. There’s still a lot of the game that remains blanketed in mystery. It is GTA, however, so I would be shocked if a mob or two or three weren’t involved. As for your second question, Liberty City is modeled after New York City, but it isn’t a copy, per se. As Dan pointed out in the magazine, the real world isn’t fun. You can’t just throw in the city and expect gameplay to emerge from that. There are certainly recognizable parts to it, but the gameplay comes first.

17. Sacha Asks: Will characters from earlier GTAs appear in the game?

Rockstar wouldn’t say outright, but from the smile that Dan Houser gave me, I would say there’s a good possibility of crossover.

18. Bobby Swansom Asks: Will the player have to go to the gym and eat right as in GTA:SA?

It doesn’t sound like Niko is the sort of person who does a lot of working out to staying in shape. From this, don’t expect him to have to work out to stay slim. As for eating, I doubt we’ll see him doing that, either. The one thing I am not sure of is whether or not he can get haircuts or buy clothing.

19. J Asks: Is it true that there's no load time?

I didn’t see one load in the entire demo, and this included visiting two interiors at different points on the map.

20. Marcus Asks: What was the phone like?

The graphic for the phone wasn’t finished just yet, so I won’t go into the detail on that, but it seemed that the interface was very simple in design and easy to use. Truth be told, it looked like a real cell phone. We just have to see if it drops as many calls as a real phone.

21. Brenny Asks: Is it still the same three cars over and over again like previous games we've seen?

I’m not sure which GTA you’ve played, but I have always had more than three cars to choose from. There’s a good chance you’ll see more taxi cabs than usual, but if anything, there should be plenty of rides to choose from.

22. Gary S Writes: How are the graphics and how far is the draw distance in the game ?

The visuals are tremendous and easily some of the best I have seen. What’s scary about this statement is that Rockstar North is still improving upon the visuals. There’s little question that it will be one of the best looking games come this holiday. As for the draw distance, I didn’t see one building, car, streetlamp, or pedestrian pop up. The framerate was also incredibly smooth and the lighting really couldn’t have been much better.

23. Isaac "Sculay" Hussain Asks: Will there be a Xbox 360 Demo?

Rockstar hasn’t announced anything yet, but I have a feeling most people will pick this game up whether they play it in advance or not.

24. A Canadian Asks: I just wanted to know when GTA IV for Xbox 360 will be in stores in Quebec, Canada.

Nope. Rockstar specifically told me that Quebec is the one location on earth that won’t be getting GTA IV. Actually, I have no idea. Call your store to find out.

25. Matthew James Asks: Compared to previous GTA titles, how big is GTA IV?

I already talked a lot about the city, so I will answer this question like it is being asked about the length of the game itself. I asked Dan this, and he said it should be comparable to all the other GTA games, but they don’t know exactly how long it is since the game is still in development. In other words, you’ll still be able to vest hundreds of hours. The multiplayer component, which is still a mystery, could greatly expand the time you spend with it too.

Just pre-ordered GTA IV.

This game so far looks really good. A blackhawk helicopter no less, looks pretty sweet, perhaps ill recreate Blackhawk Down in Central Park. Still I hope the Apache has made it into the game again.

Yea I pre-ordered mine back in April/May before I left from Lubbock to be back home for the summer since I'll be up there when it comes out.

Oh, and new information.

Ruslana is the first voice actor for GTA:IV has been named. We don't know what character she is playing but the voice actress is Ukrainian.

http://www.gta4.net/news/3900/first-voice-actor-for-gta-iv-announced/

The newest news from Games[TM] Magazine.

* The demo begins in Grand Theft Auto IV's equivalent of Times Square: Star Junction. There aren't many pedestrians present at this time, but this is most likely due to the early nature of the code.
GamesTM
* The mobile phone can be used to gain weapons. In the demo that GamesTM saw, Niko calls his associate Little Jacob, who is a caribbean arms dealer. After a brief chat with Jacob, he tells Niko to meet him in an alleyway in Rotterdam Hill, where he purchases the weapons from him. No more Ammu-Nation it seems.
* Niko can use taxis to get around (presumably he can use the phone to call a taxi). The police are much more vigilant in GTA IV, and sometimes it is less hassle using a taxi than jacking someone's car. The trip-skip option is available for convenience.
* In the demo, Niko recieves a call concerning "shady lawyer" Goldberg, of Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster (GLS). Niko can use the internet in GTA4. He heads over to an internet café called the "Tw@ Café," and hops onto a PC before surfing. He uploads his CV to the GLS website so he can get an interview - before killing Goldberg. He receives a phonecall confirming the time of his interview. The web is available from any computer in the game, and provides a hub for all sorts of interactivity within Liberty City.
* Missions in GTA IV can be interrupted. The interview isn't until tomorrow, which means you can carry out other business until then. This suggests you can do several missions at the same time, and missions can take place over several days, perhaps.
* Next in the demo, Niko pays a visit to somebody called McReary, at Castle Gardens, a coast-side hangout overlooking the Statue of Hapiness. McReary has had a memory stick stolen from him which contains sensitive data, and he wants Niko to retrieve it for him. He takes another cab to the meeting point, where the target is standing amongst a crowd of people. The problem is he doesn't know which one it is, so he gives him a call to see which one picks up their phone. Niko shoots the target three times in the back of the head, before taking the memory stick and making a run for it. He gains a three-star wanted level as a result.
* Committing crimes isn't as easy in GTA IV. You gain a wanted level for every crime you commit, aslong as there are witnesses present. Once you have gained a wanted level, a visible (circular) search area appears on the radar, and if you escape this area without being spotted, your wanted level will flash and disappear. If you are spotted, however, the search area's position changes, and centers on where you were last spotted. So unlike previous GTA games, the police don't always know where you are. They can't catch you unless they find you first. It was confirmed previously that in GTA IV every street will be named, and this is what cops use to communicate when they are tracking you down. There are no Pay N' Spray's to save you this time, unfortunately.
* Before heading off to the interview, Niko goes to a menswear store called Perseus. After spending $2,000 on a new suit and shoes, his phone alarm sounds and he begins his journey to the GLS offices for his interview. He speaks to the receptionist from outside the building via intercom, before making his way into the building. He enters Goldeberg's office and puts a bullet in his head, which causes his secretary to trigger the alarm. Niko must beat security guards and police in order to get out of the building. Bullets rain down on him, and there's a police chopper waiting outside. It seems as though the more bullets he takes, the more damage he takes, and hence he becomes less able to fight. The damage is actually visible this time.

http://www.gta4.net/news/3902/world-exclusive-gta-iv-preview-in-gamestm/

* McReary, the character we learned about in GamesTM, is a corrupt cop. He has "dirt on Niko's past." The mission they previewed is called "Call and Collect."
* Little Jacob (a caribbean arms dealer) is a good friend of Niko's cousin. When you buy weapons from him (which are kept in his trunk) you can scroll through them like you did in Ammu-Nation in the previous GTA games.
* Rotterdam Hill (the place where Niko agrees to meet Jacob) is in Alderney - the GTA IV equivalent of New Jersey.
* Niko kills Goldberg (the shady lawyer) because he owes a favour to somebody.
* Rockstar showed the sequence where he kills Goldberg twice. The first time he fell out of the window, the second time he merely crumpled on the floor.
* When purchasing clothes, you have to choose the items from the shelf individually.
* Determining which figures you need to kill requires perception - there are no arrowheads to direct you like in the previous games.
* Once you gain a wanted-level, the map flashes with circles of blue and red, with each circle representing the line of sight of the police chase. The circles differ in size depending on your wanted-level.
* The default camera view when driving rests around the left-hand side of the car above the road.
* Multiplayer is accessed via your mobile phone.
* The combat rests somewhere between Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War in terms of style, allowing you to roll, find protection and blind-fire from behind cover.
* Shooting different parts of the body has different impacts (e.g shoot a security guard in the foot at the top of the stairs, and he'll come tumbling down.)
* In GTA IV you have to develop relationships with other characters. Your relationship with Little Jacob, for example, is maintained through phone calls and loyalty. Developing good relationships with different characters can provide different rewards.

The missions so far sound really cool and I like the new police AI of how they don't always know exactly where they are. I guess this will mean that there won't be any more "stars" around town that you can pick up to lose some cops.

Here's a thread from www.gtaforums.com that shows the facts we have about GTA:IV so far.

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=262354

And then a little info about getting a video (unknown if it's gameplay or not) and some more details and screenshots coming in about a month.

GTAReactor.de are reporting that the August edition of German magazine "Games Aktuell" will contain a new and exclusive preview of Grand Theft Auto IV, with 20 screenshots and an exclusive video (very unlikely to be game footage). We are expecting this preview to be much the same as the PLAY and GamesTM articles that we summarized last week, so although we might learn one or two new details, don't expect much.

In addition, SPOnG revealed today that they were treated to an in-depth preview by Rockstar earlier yesterday. However, they won't be able to tell us about it until "a little later next month." We can expect previews from GameSpot, IGN, and Kikizo etc. at around the same time I imagine.

lol, come on dude i think it's worth waiting for a highly anticipated game to be real good. Rockstar is working hard to not dissapoint us gamers especially since this is the first next generation GTA they have been working on. either way 2008 has awesome lineups and by them i think you will see how worth the wait will be.

You know what would be cool in GTA. NO goddam codes!
all those money, health and gun codes make the game too easy. Nobodies forcing you to use them but I mean cmon if their there, you will be tempted.

I hoped they improved on the crappy AI system, I like the fact that its in modern times unlike vice city which was kinda annoying.

09-23-2007, 21:22
No, they shoudl keep codes. And I say that, being a person that never used codes.

I only used the gore cheat on GTA3, but even when I go/went on rampages, I'd instead find a challenge to sue my current realistic supplies.

But people still want riots and stuff, I can understand that, just wouldn't do it myself.

I'm really looking forward to this game. It's gonna be the bomb. I think the screens are wicked and I love the next gen graphics the only thing that looks strange is the main character, he's a bit wierd looking and looks very PS2. I hope they fix him up a bit but the scenery is astonishing in parts.

adamba4e
09-29-2007, 15:38
Well it looks really good. Apparently the shoot outs will be more intense and you'll actually have to think of ways to go about your missions. For example one mission you will be contracted to kill a lawyer, and you think about the best way to do it. You end up getting a job interview with him scheduled for a few days later and when you go in you listen to him for awhile and fire two shots into his head right after he says "Guns don't kill people, video games kill people".

Also you can go on the internet.

lb003g0676
09-29-2007, 18:36
I really REALLY love this new serious storyline, but I wish they made a GTA 2 remake that wasn't too indepth - an easy sideline game to keep people going until GTA IV: Vice City or whatever.

So in 3D we could go kill scientists and steal loony Cars..... Loved GTA 2.

My point is I wish they split up into 2 development teams, one for a fun stupid version like it used to be and one serious version which is it now. Because I love both.

Since I'm not able to post a new thread, I hope my posting this here will be ok, it's GTA related, and it's pretty big news IF this is true.

Sony secures exclusive for Grand Theft Auto 7 (name yet to be announced)

According to the November 2007 issue # 76 of the Official Xbox Magazine Sony has secured the next Grand Theft Auto, which would be number 7 in the series, to be a true exclusive to the Playstation 3.
"Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of the Cell and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that" as said by Sony's Michael Shorrock in a statement to the press. " We handed Rockstar a signed blank check because we were short sighted enough to let Grand Theft Auto's exclusivity get away from us. Oops!"
Looks like the Xbox fans may be out of luck when it come to the next installment of Grand Theft Auto. If they do release a 360 version it sounds like it would have to be on multiple dvd discs if the game truly takes advantage of Blu-ray.

One thing is for sure. This will be interesting to watch play out. Stay tuned!http://www.hdgamenews.com/2007/10/sony-secures-exclusive-for-grand-theft.html

Hopefully we will find out soon if this is indeed true or not from R*

Edited to Add: Nevermind, saw some sites already claiming this as false.

Don't want much do ya...i don't think rockstar will really be arsed if they lose your buisness...after all, millions of people will be buying this game anyway..and you'll probably still end up buying it anyways.

There is no official comparison, and I'm pretty sure that SONY and Microsoft will be working with R* to ensure that both are pretty much identical.

Kr2zYsNip3R2991
01-05-2008, 14:20
some comparisons are bad because of how the settings are set but most games are exactly alike on each console (360 and ps3) its just how the settings are, this shows from assassins creed how the graphics are when all u gotta do is change a few settings http://youtube.com/watch?v=5HvdRfUmoqQ

mobias
01-05-2008, 15:24
There's other things to consider as well if you've got a high quality entertainment system at home. Its quite possible that the PS3 version may have better sound seeing as how R* won't have to compress the hell out of the sound files for the Xbox DVD9 version. Sound compression was a big issue for R* when they brought out San Andreas, it caused them a lot of headaches.

Has anybody heard anything about how GTA4 is going to match up against San Andreas as far as non-mission stuff? I'm sure it will have just as many or more missions. I heard that the full map is going to be slightly smaller than San Andreas but R* claims there is going to be a lot more (non-mission) stuff. Does anyone know whether all that cool stuff (ie clothing stores, food, hair cuts, properties, gym, etc etc etc) is going to be in 4? The amount of side stuff in San Andreas is truly amazing - I hope GTA4 will have at least the same.

clean515
01-06-2008, 03:38
San andreas was to big i think and the game was pretty bad compared to the third and vice city, i think it's good that they cut down the map size to make a more interesting city, the hair cut stuff is pretty stupid - if i want to play the sims i open up that game - but again i'm not a 11 year old girl.

Guys, not sure about it, but are these two pics new??? If i remember correctly, i can haven't seen them before anywhere:

I really like the lightning and the colorfull palette of this game. Nothing technically marvellous here but the way everything seems to fit to each other, the whole balance of it, how this game brings N.Y.C. to life, surpasses everything that is out there on the game market right now...

Hopefully, the controls wont disturb the gameplay experience....But thankfully i have read i a preview that the controls and the GUI have been improved over the series and are superior to the ones found in GTA3/Vice City...

i can't wait for Grand Theft Auto IV comes out! I've always loved those games. I'm gona miss the jets though. The Hydra Jet would've been especially awesome! at least they have helicopters though. i heard that the characters wont wear the same clothes every single time you see them, which was long needed
The new wanted level system looks pretty cool too. i hope the Army will still come. i hope the F.B.I. still drives the suburbans, cuz thats my all time favorite SUV.

I think the GPS systems will be cool. Some of the nicer cars have GPS systems that talk you threw it. Theres gona be new cars added to the list too. Liike the beat up black Chrysler 300C seen up above.

One of the reactions of gunfire to people driving cars, is ducking behind the dashboard and gasing it.
and YOU people pre ordering a GTA IV might want to preorder at Target, becasuse you get a FREE GTAIV skin for your PS3. i think its a picture of the city or something like that. you have to put $10 US bucks down, no less and no more.

a website i would recomend viewing is >>> http://www.gta4.net/news/index.php <<<
it shows stuff like:
- Weapons
- Missions
- Screenshots
- Videos
- Vehicles
- Settings.
on the main page it shows alot of features
and at the top it has a countdown of when its coming out to the exact second. day/hour/minute/second

im totally siked. i got a big HD tv for christmas, so its going to look great.

soon Rockstar is going to release multiplayer information I HOPE. GTA multiplayer will be freaking awesome. especially if you can just roam the city and do w/e u want with other freinds.

i have a feeling that there wont be any cheats though : ( I always loved doing the infinite ammo, health, weapons cheat, and distroying the city. I will miss the jet pack too. i always used the cheat when i was stuck or wanted to get somewhere fast.

the chainsaw has been removed along with the flamethrower which kinda sucks, but oh well. i hope theres more silenced weapons! and i also want the heat seeker rocket launcher to make another appear iin the GTA.
