View Full Version : Do you like the Nintendo Revolution Controller?

Do you like it, will you use it, is it bad, do you hate Nintendo for ever?

Personally, I can't imagine how 3rd party games are going to work. That fact alone could destroy the revolution.

Add a "I'll decide when I actually try it" option, even though half the people here will probably pass judgement on it beforehand.

Who cares how it looks like!!!!!
just look at what it could do.
BTW I hope PS3 doesn't change the way their controller looks like

People remember what you guys what you were saying with the ps3 controller. What happened :?: If it turns out to be good I will get the rev but right now, it is the worst out of all three.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You're already naming it worst when you've never even tried it. The PS3 controller looks like a monstrosity, yet I have never said it was bad at all. I've never held a controller like it so I'm not going to pass judgement. Try the same for Revolution.

Lefein, you've been waiting god knows how long for a Rev discussion, it finally looks like your day has come.

It seems like this one of those love-hate relationships, you cant really have a middle ground.

I agree that it is revolutionary: For example it can be used as a fishpole, paper airplane etc.

This would be the best for Madden. You could point to a spot on the screen and pass it there, no more O reciever and stuff. I think if developers use this to its full potential it could be very fun to use in games specifically designed for it.

LOL PAPER AIRPLANE? What does it remind me of...what was that wapon that had 2 iron balls attached to a string and you'd throw them to trip someone up and definatly break something....that's what it reminds me of

I am not going to preorder it because it doesn't look so good to me but I might get it if i like it when my friend gets it. Its good to have friends who have different video game interests

ok at first, I almost cried... I couldnt believe it... but after I read about it, and thought about it... it seems like it could be really good, hopfully developers can dev. for it.

Mark me under excited, but waiting to give it a try... if you read about the demos, especially the metriod one, it gets you a little more excited.

I was totally shocked though.

Is the weapon you're thinking of a bolla or something. Just a guess.

On topic:
If you read the article from IGN, Nintendo had IGN do like 6 demonstrations and one of them was using the controller as a paper airplane and flying it threw hoops.

Well, to me, it's just another dimension added to gaming. Buttons are great, and a classic gaming experience can be had. However, this is the year 2005, and we should all expect something more from gaming. Nintendo is the company going out on a limb and trying to bring it to you. The closed minded need not apply. What you are seeing is the hydrogen engine in the age of gas guzzling SUVs.

It's understandable if you look at it for a while like an alien from another universe. As time goes by, it will set in that Nintendo just brought you out of three dimensional graphics and into three dimensional controls. Some will cry "gimick" others will cry "revolution." For those of you crying "revolution" this is truly something new and exciting. For those of you crying "gimick" I have to ask you... What is the view of a beautiful flower in a water garden from space? Do you need power to feel in control, or do you need the tools to grow with that power? How valuable is power without using it? Is it enough to see mighty bahamut rise before you, or do you want more? Me? I wan't to reach out and scratch his chin. Welcome to Revolution!

I know Nintendo is trying to appeal to non gamers but I can honestly see someone come up to a store display pick up the remote and not realize they have to move it around to control the on screen character and just put it back down. I had a similar experience with the nokia ngage, I picked it up hit a few buttons and nothing happened.

Right now, I need a " I have to try it before I know if I like it " option. But as with every gaming system, I need the great games that make me wanna play it so bad i'll buy the console. So far X360 and PS3 do that for me, so i'll be buying those for sure.

I need to see what games are coming out for the Revolution, thats gonna be the deciding factor of wether I buy the system, not the controller.

But, I gotta give it to Nintendo for pushing the bar of gaming, pretty innovative looking controller, even if the rectangle part of it is ugly. Interactive type of gaming, can't wait for more info on it.

i don't like the idea of controlling a game when the controller loods like a freaken remote.

I've tried playing a game with the PS2 DVD remote (don't ask) and it was horrible, but I guess i would have to pass full judgement after i try it.

But isn't this meant for kids?

I don't know what nintendo is thinking. trying to get new gamer in the gaming world. it's going to be very hard to do that. I know because I very pick-e about this. how am I going to play old games if I have to used that.

Lefein
09-16-2005, 18:05
I'm willing to bet you will be able to play older games by using a controller attachment. They were talking about how they could put the Revolution controller inside a shell with the expansion port.

Kinda makes you happy that Sega is starting to make controllers, eh? 8)

that's good to know but will they show it before TGS is over. I went to know for sure nintendo have this on lock.

Lefein
09-16-2005, 19:11
Knowing Nintendo, they will pull off some pretty interesting attachments. It's obvious right from the start that the current controller doesnt quite have enouhgh buttons to play something like an N64 game, yet the system will have those games.

Nintendo is up to something and I bet they're trying to measure the reaction to the new gaming concept before they take all the attention away by showing a more traditional controller add-on peripheral. They want to see how open people are to the new movement experience before showing something that gives people the impression that they can bypass it.

At least, thats what I would do.

well that is revolutionary... i guess. that is one crappy revolution though. basicly my tv controller with a trigger. oooooo nice one nintendo... relinquishing there american market with one controler... kudos

I think the controller is brilliant . I am thinking of getting myself a Revo aswell . It just looks so cool with that ipod inspired design and colour scheme . It should be great with First Person Shooters in that you just point the controller thingy at a different part of the screen to aim , it all just seems natural .

I thought it would be in two parts like this one ended up being, but it looks pretty bad, and doesn't seem to Revolutionize anything all that much.

All I want to know is what ever happend to all the gyroscopes talk?? and what about the “there won’t be any 'a' b' buttons” comment?

thats what really got me...

The a and b button thing was just a rumor from a Japanese bussiness magazine, I'm actually not surprised it turned out false.

I like the controller and cannot wait to test it out. Hopefully it will change video gaming as we know it. I hope there are a lot of aviable accessories for it also.

The more I think about it, and the more I watch that controller teaser (thanks Lefein :) ), the more I like the Revolution controller and the whole idea behind it, and I thought it was pretty cool to begin with. My guess, this will lead to the Xbox 360 doing poorly in Japan, first place PS3, 2nd Revolution, 3rd Xbox 360 (in Japan). Don't know how it will turn out anywhere else, but I guess we'll see once the sales start on all three consoles. Heck, what if Sega comes back in, then what would happen? I can't be buying all four consoles, heck, I can barely afford one  !

Exactly, it sucks. Not even useable. Its like it went back in time. Nintendo's slowly dieing, and this controller style is helping it die.

It is completely useable. Have you read the article explaining it? It is a very smart idea and takes gaming to a whole new level. Also there are a ton of accessories for that including one that makes it like a regular controller. It will revolutionize gaming forever.

I agree, I'm really loving this new Revolution controller, and if anyone has doubts aboubt it, I advise you to read the article on IGN, or watch the teaser posted by Lefein, http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334/vids_1.html.

Edit: Found a pic of how the Revolution controller would look with a normal controller attachment, although I wished they'd shown an n64 controller attachment instead of a Gamecube one. Anyways, still really cool.

They will probabely have attachments for each controller considering you can download the old games. I really want to see a picture of it with the n64 controller attachment.

If your confused about why Nintendo does stuff like this... or even if you hate Nintendo... read that... its easy to understand and wont take much time. I suggest reading it even if you like nintendo, ^_^ its enlightening!

Nintendo needs to do what they are doing, its not just for them, its for the good of the industry... and without Nintendo, video gaming would probably be declining.

I bet in like 6-10 years, at the end of this next console race, when things like the PS4 are approching... you'll see the same motion detection on the PS4's controller, and even the Xbox.

The only thing i like about it is when you move it a certain way, things will move. The rest i dont like. Oh and i do like how it can be put in a controller.

I really like the idea of putting it in a Wavebird, this would solve all the issues of conventional gameplay, and it could still add another dimension to gaming with the original controller inside. Though this means you would have to buy another controller. :?

smitty61
09-18-2005, 21:46
Yeah you may have to buy it but it will be worth it. I really hoe they make adapters for all the old controllers, espically the n64 one.

That would be pretty neat to be able to use all the old controllers. I really liked the the N64 controller too, and I don't really know why. I mean come on it has three grip things, and last time I checked I only had two hands.

For some strange reason the 64 is my favorite controller. I even like it better than the ps2 controller. But that rides a close second.

Nintendo has never been 'expensive' when compared to the other console companies out there. So its a little moot for people to argue buying another controller... The only inconviniance I see, is the trouble of walking to the store. XD

Nintendo has said that it will package an Add-on with the console, and most people seem to think that it will be the Analog stick thing... but I'd think it would be better of Nintendo to just release the controller adaptor with it instead. lol

Also it might be likely that any add-ons you need, will be packaged with the games that need them.(and possibly for no/low extra price) Kind of like how the EyeToy was packaged with eyetoy games. lol
