I'm sure it will come eventually. Universal has to support Blu-Ray at some point, given the popularity of the format

i guess there are many other titles that are exclusively for HD DVD like the Bourne Series, Fast & Furious Series...there are a lot more....just browse through the HD DVD section of the Bestbuy and Blu-ray section. On a whole both have equal number of movies approx. Its gonna take a little more longer for Blu-ray to pull over the lead farther ahead particularly after the million PS3's that are gonna be sold in Europe ....

Blu-ray for the WIN !!!!!

I've got 5 of those HD DVD's preordered, they've actually announced more than that, just not at CES.

I'll be picking up quite a few of the BD's as well. I've been ordering on average about 10 movies a month combined on both formats.

REFLEX
01-27-2007, 13:18
So far ive averaged about 20 titles a month for both formats. Ill be going down to the stores to hunt for more in a week here...... there are always new titles coming in, and here in Canada we often get a few later than the ones in the states for some crappy distribution reasons. So.... looks like more shopping next week! Plus I still get the 3 free HD DVDs for buying my 2nd player, the XA2. I got my other 3 free from the A1 when I first got that too hehee... awesome.

I refuse to watch a movie about the sexual exploration of two gay cowboys. I've got a Toshiba HD DVD player and I still won't buy that movie.

Let's see, Blu-ray has Crank, and HD DVD has Brokeback Mountain, hahahahahahahahahahaha.

I support and own both formats, but that's frikken hilarious!

Universal is supposedly releasing over 100 HD-DVD titles this year even though they didn't announce them at CES. But that looks like over 100 Blu-Ray titles just in that CES list, so even with Universal added, Blu-Ray still has the advantage. I think there are still many more Blu-Ray movies to be announced this year, and many more PS3's/Blu-Ray players to be sold. I think the war will be decided by the end of 07. Blu-Ray already passed HD-DVD sales by a little before Christmas, and the BDA expects that difference to grow to 3.5:1 in Blu-Ray's favor by the Q1 07. Blu-Ray sales are growing in a much faster rate than HD-DVD despite its early lead, so the only thing that HD-DVD still has going for it now is that's it's cheaper. But even then, a PS3 is as cheap as a HD-DVD player and the movies are about the same price. So basically, HD-DVD won't last far past this year. I'm interested to see how long Toshiba tries to keep HD-DVD going, as they're like the only major CE company supporting it.

The number of titles is not nearly as important as the killer titles that are coming out.

James Bond, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, and Everything Disney related (Yes Pirates is Disney too) are all from studios that are exclusive to Blu Ray.

im in no wai an expert in the format war, but i do see blu-ray winning.
heres Why:
Sony Pictures/Colombia-Tristar (The fricken inventors of blu-ray, as well as a bigger company over in japan importing really good japanese movies here like House of flying daggers and such, as well a a bigger chance of anime on blu-ray)
Disney/Buena Vista Pictures (Its effing disney people!)
20th Century Fox

HD-DVD has..
Universal (not tied to HD-DVD creator [toshiba?] like sony pictures is tied to their own format blu-ray..) kinda see where im going with this?

REFLEX

I dont dislike broke back mountain because of its "gayness", I dont like it because its not my kind of movie. I could care less about the gay thing either way, its been around since the dawn of time and it aint going anywhere, its no more right than straight people are and its no more wrong than we are, it is human nature.

It wasnt bad because its gay, it was bad because it was a sappy drama fest.

Look at the film studio.

If it's Universal, then it's HD DVD only.

If it's not - it'll be on Blu Ray.

Reflex, I'm not going to get into an argument about if being a homosexual is right or wrong, but I will share my one simple belief.

I believe that the "meaning of life" and the primary reason we are on this Earth is to reproduce, survival of the species, keep mankind going, you know what I mean. Gay people cannot do that naturally and that's why I think it's wrong.

But yeah, as far as the movie goes, even if it was about a cowboy couple (guy and girl) I still wouldn't want to watch it, not my type of movie.

Mcav: You're forgetting about smaller companies like Weinstein only release on HD DVD too, they've got some great films on there side.

REFLEX
01-28-2007, 13:43
Im not here to agrue either. My belief is that it is a part of genetics, it is no more a defect than brown hair or blue eyes. It has existed in animals and human beings as well since recorded history, basically a few thousand years ago.... the Greek civilization had a huge foundation in homosexual activities, many of the worlds gifted people have been gay. Its no body's fault, and even if it was a choice, which it isnt, that would still be fine by me, who am I to tell people how they live is wrong? or who they are?

Im not saying that you are saying that, im just sayin' thats all...

I know a few lesbians (2 of them are actually twin sisters, its basic science there)... its not a show, its not for fun, its for real. Same with the only gay guy I actually know, hes a great person and id never feel right thinking there is something wrong about him.

I think that the purpose of human kind is to reproduce as well, but we do a lot of other things inbetween that do or dont allow us to do so, this is just one of them.

I embrace most people for what they are unless its totally wrong against humanity, like rapists, killers, etc.

Live and let live..

I can accept other peoples opinions on the subject as well as long as they are not hate mongers for no actual reasons except their own ignorance. Which I can see you do not do, so we can continue respecting each other! ;)

PS. I really hate sappy movies like this anyway, boy+boy, girl+boy or girl+girl, it all sucks for 90% of dramas...

Read the BDA press release at this years CES carefully. The Blu-ray exclusive studios want HD DVD to die and are already declaring Blu-ray the winner. They consolidated their support by announcing a large selection of releases some of them are the top grossing movies of last year (Pirates 2, Casino Royale, Cars). The Blu-ray exclusive studios are not going to go neutral. The market cannot and never has been able to support two competing formats. One of them has to die and unfortunately for a lot of users it is going to be HD DVD due to lack of support in hardware, movie studios and IT. It will be a slow death as Universal is prolonging its life but Universal's catalogue of titles while large cannot come close to competing with the recent catalogue titles from Fox, MGM, Sony, Lionsgate & Disney/Buena Vista. I do not know what deal Universal has with the HD DVD group but I think 2008 will see Universal releasing on Blu-ray and the final nail in the coffin of HD DVD. Its departure will be quicker than its rise; HD DVD will die next year as it cannot survive on the back of two companies, Toshiba and Universal.

Good points but I think there are still alot of neutral companies that are supporting it. As you say it's going to be a long drawn out death, but it's going to happen. Especially as movie collecters are going to know that Blu-Ray is of higher quality, and with the cult hits and just plain awesome movies that are exclusively to blu-ray, true collectors will only have one way to turn.

Oh no I disagree, first of all Blu-ray and HD DVD are the same quality. Secondly you should have said "true collectors will already have both HD DVD and Blu-ray", because its true. Early adopters and hardcore collectors already have both kinds of players and both formats.... take myself for example, there are a few of us on these forums.

T.V shows are effected too, but youll find that a lot of shows will come to both formats, but not all of them, it depends on which studios own what shows. They may be the same quality now, but the cheaper available platform the PS3 with HDMI, is at the moment superior to XboxHDdvd and more expensive HD-DVD players (at least here in aus) And Blu-Ray with more storage space I think will eventually get the advantage, larger disc size means more special features, more episodes of tv shows on less discs etc. (Not to say I won't miss having large amounts of dvds for seasons, boxes are awesome)

I don't think true collectors necesarilly do, there are some who can afford to and others who need to make a choice. It would be better if there was the one format for everyone I think.

But I'm willing to buy most of his stuff again. Resevoir Dogs definately, if nothing else... but probably more anyway haha.

I have the video, the dvd, the 2 disc dvd, then blu-ray... haha 4 copies. Did you ever play the game?

Agreed, both formats have awesome movies that everyone loves... but I would prefer 1 single format, then I don't have to buy an HD-DVD player aswell. And I hate the idea of exclusives, they're turning movies into the gaming world with console exclusives... it sucks. There should be 1 supreme, why do you think Beta-Max died. All I'm saying is 1 format would be bliss.

Naw.. not restricted, but controlled. Most shows will go on both formats almost garunteed.

Yeah the 360 add on is alright but it lacks a lot of stuff..... HDMI for *most* 1080p HDTVs and for TrueHD or other LinearPCM high-def sound... it cant do that.. so its lacking big time.
