Just got my Discovery Atlas: Brazil Revealed Blu Ray in today. I just got done watching it, and wow, am I impressed. I have seen the 3 others in the series (China, Italy, Australia) in HD, via mpeg 2 downloads from newsgroups (about 12 gigs in size each). The series itself is fantastic, really great stuff if your interested in the cultures and lives of other countries. A lot of money was spent making each one, and it shows, with tremendous film work.
For video quality, this is really great stuff (1920x1080 progressive), it is definately a huge step up from the downloaded videos I saw. I don't think it is up there with top tier movies (like black hawk down), but it definately holds its own. The detail shown is impressive, and watching this in SD is just not an option, you would lose so much of the experiance. Some scenes like the shots of the jungle and satellite scenes will blow you away.
As for audio it is not presented uncompressed, but in Dolby 5.1. The sound is pretty great, it really excels in the vocal area. More could have been put into the low range, but the mid and high level make up for it, as this is where most of the sound is.
If you haven't had a chance to check out any of the series, give it a try. It is a real cinematic experiance, and really something to show off.
If anyone else has any of the other Blu Rays in this series, post your thoughts on it!
