According to today's Forbes profile on the company that published Keiji Inafune's epic shooter, Capcom is in deep about forty million bucks getting Lost Planet out the door, on store shelves, and into the minds of gamers.

Forbes details Capcom's executive VP of publishing in North America and Europe Mark Beaumont and his efforts to shake up the company's marketing. In the case of Lost Planet, advertising and awareness came to a cool $20 million. Combined with a $20 million development budget and you'll see where that $60 you plop down goes.

So where did that twenty mill go? Theater advertising, the two Xbox Live demos, TV spots, community funding—it all costs money. Apparently, a lot of money. Michael McWhertor

How is this thread trolling? That isn't exactly bad news, it shows that Capcom is dedicated to making good games for the 360! You should be happy about that!

Actually I think the info came from Guerilla games themselves. The number is 100% correct.

But so did Capcom... This is the propietary engine that's going to run DMC4 and already runs Lost Planet and Dead Rising.

$40 bucks is a LOT of money for a game, but if Lost Planet continues to sell like it has, they are going to profit easily on this title. Also don't forget that making a splash and hit game now means they can spend less marketing for the eventual sequal. So this is good planning by Capcom.

Well if the game costs 60$ then wouldn't they have gotten 60 mil$ out of it.. But then again I don't think that's what the stores pays for the games, and there's probably also other things you have to consider.

You must be joking right? A typical software house's gross profit margin on a software product is about 32%, not 500%!
