It doesnt really tell anyone much when one item costs $25 and the other costs $200.

The HD-DVD remote comes with the addon for the 360, dude!

lol, to say a remote is selling faster than an add on is like saying that lettuce is selling faster than Ferraris.

That's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to take the wind out of "good Blu-ray news" sails!
I guess he meant that Blu-ray is being used for movies more than HD DVD in the console market.
Can't really be sure about that.

It means there are more people using PS3 for Blu-Ray (bought remotes) than people who bought the HD-DVD add-on, and there are even more people who haven't bought/have yet to buy the remote even though they watch Blu-Rays.

Yep.
Wow this thread is a nice thread but everyone is flaming it. Why?

I guess it does help tell us something.
People are in fact using the PS3 as a blu-ray player, theres no other reason to buy that remote. It has no game functionality. its just for movie playback. And there are some people like me who don't even care about the remote but do still use the blu-ray feature.
Ahh yes, I remember how many people were insulting the blu-ray and one of their arguments was that gamers would not use the stinking blu-ray feature.
this thread actually makes a nice point in an interesting way.. and is pro Sony. I have a PS3 BT remote and I have over 10 BR titles.. Blu-ray 1080p over HDMI is the way to go

This doesn't mean they are playing back blu-ray movies, lol! It's a DVD player too, which is what most people are using it for. <sigh>

lol i'm sure
your statement isn't totally wrong but instead of "most people" you mean average people. this thread another example of the Blu-ray movement.. It's clear many PS3 owners are buying Blu-ray because shortly after release BR is now selling 3:1 over HD-DVD.. We all know the PS3 to BR attach rate is high for those who actually buy.. (I have over 10 titles already) Obviously the PS3 has made an effect and the remotes being sold are just another example.
You know how Microsoft (or microsoft supporters) said that the people that bought the HD-DVD add-on, bought it to watch movies?
Same goes for the PS3 remote. I'm assuming people don't play games with the Blu-ray remote.

Most people already have a DVD player if not two or 3 in their homes. Not including computers. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the majority of remote buyers are getting them for Blu-ray rather than DVD

Well, that is exactly what it means...

hahaahaa crawl back to your hole, its like saying ppl bought the addon just to watch dvd. pathetic!!

Yeah I do know that, not sure what relevance that piece of info has to do with my post above that deserved a ROFFLZ! though. I was simply pointing out the fact the $25 Blu-ray remote outselling a $200 360 HD-DVD addon tells us very little.

If someone buys the Blu-Ray remote it tells you they are using their PS3 for movie playback, if anything the number is too small, some people get along fine without shelling out $25 more.
Nice way to put a number on PS3s being used for Blu-Ray playback!

Can't really nickel and dime on the issue though, since the HD-DVD addon brings the price of the 360 to parity with the PS3... Amazingly, it becomes an apples to apples comparison and the sales data for BluRay backs it up.

Just ignore ignore him, he always posts that sort of crap.
Rubics, what this idicates is that there are a lot of PS3 owners using their PS3 as a blu ray player which is a good thing in the format war (unless of course you wand HD-DVD to win) and not as many people are suing their 360 for HD-DVD - quite understandable given that it costs US$200.
It's not definitive, but it is a guide to how the Blu ray vs HD-DVD format war is going in respect to the consols, which is useful considering all sales data on next gen players always exclude the PS3 and the 360 HD-DVD add-on.

I don't think that is safe to say.

Um..how do you know they are not using it for DVD's? I would bet the majority of the people are using their PS3 to play DVDs.
How about a link stating it's for BR movies only. My bets are people need it to play DVDs as well, and that is the majority of the movies being played on the PS3.
If you think otherwise, you are just burying your head in the sand.

Ehh... Isn't this a little far-fetched compare between Blu-ray and HD-DVD sales? http://www.asbl37.dsl.pipex.com/laugh.gif
I heard the blu ray remote is also outselling sega CD

In other news, Hubba Bubba is outselling used Yugo's.
Ya i had to pick up one of these remotes since my GF couldnt figure out how to use the sixaxis to play movies. They are pretty nice remotes tho.

What does the PS3 BTooth remote offer that the controller doesn't?

The convenience of pushing buttons that are dedicated for menu, pop-up menu, audio, angle, advance, skip, etc. instead of hitting triangle on your controller and having to scroll to what you want to do, or using the shoulder buttons and whatnot. Definitely worth it if you're watching Blu-ray movies or DVD's in your PS3.
This is good news for us PS3 owners, along with all the other news recently of Blu-ray discs outselling HD-DVD's over 2:1 and with the upcoming releases. Even better when I go in Hollywood video and see three times as many Blu-ray discs as HD-DVD's. :)

I have the same problem...
I keep hearing "Babe, I just wnet back to the PS3 menu thing, do I have to click the disk to get back to the movie? I guess I quit the playing it or something...help pleaseeeeeeeee!"

I bought the Xbox 360 Universal Harmony Remote ($150) because the wife complained about having too many remotes. Well, now she complains because the new remote is too confusing, so she went back to using multiple remotes.
I can't win
I like using my remote to surf the web as well as BluRay movies. My girlfriend is going bonkers waiting for Pirates of the Caribbean to come out on BluRay.
Using a remote control to surf the net? That's a bit contrived Lefein.

It works like a charm! In fact, I've even messaged people on the PSN with my remote haha

I do what Lefein does. I do the same with the 360 remote on the 360 Media Center. I would rather do that than plug in my keyboard.

Same here, at least until I can find a relatively cheap bluetooth keyboard/mouse solution.

I have a wireless keyboard that works on my console too, but I just don't want it laying around in the living room. The wife has a cleaning OCD .
I like the blueray remote better simply b/c the shoulder buttons on the sixaxis are so freaking sensative. I'd accidentally fastforward or rewind by breathing on it....

I'd like to get a wireless keyboard/mouse setup if it was possible on the PS3, I'm not sure if it is. I'm thinking you'd have to install drivers and whatnot and I don't know if they'd be compatible with the PS3. I suppose I'll get something eventually.

I don't think you will need drivers for a blue tooth. I could be wrong, but I haven't tried it.

Sorry, I was referring to a wireless KB/M solution where the receiver would be plugged into one of the USB ports. I believe you're right about Bluetooth, I think you'd just have to register the device with the PS3. My problem with that is the sheer cost of any bluetooth KB/M devices as I haven't seen any for less than $150.

Yes, it is costly. And as far as plugging in a wireless receiver plugged into the USB port....well, you can plug in a regular USB keyboard without the need to install drivers. Maybe the wireless FOB requires a driver? I am not sure about that either as I have not tried it.
Comparing a cheap remote to an expensive drive (relative to each other)...
Wow!
