That's not a PS3 lol. I'm sorry I didn't post this earlier but this is the cheapest I've ever seen a stand alone player. Especially the Samsung model. Check it out cuz I think it ends today. Happy Shopping!

Hey that is cheap but I also got another question. Does anyone know if our PS3's are region free? I'm trying to buy TopGear from the UK but i'm not sure if it will work over here in the states.

Nice find. This player should be going on sale/ckearance for cheap from a number of places, as Samsung readies to release their second gen Blu-ray player. Cheapest I've seen so far, though.

As for PS3 being region-free, they are not. Blu-ray specifies 3 regions, A, B, and C. Japan and North America are both Region A, the UK is part of Region B. If the disc is region-coded, then it will not play. But MANY titles right now don't use the region-coding, so it's tough to know. I hadn't heard of Top Gear being available on Blu-ray. Were you referring to the DVD? That definitely won't play on U.S. hardware.

Anyone know how it compares to the PS3's blu ray Player? The PS3 gotten great reviews as a blu ray player and I use mine Daily for Blu Ray and DVD it is now cemented as the defacto Movie/Game player in my Entertainment Center.

Wow, thats the cheapest ive seen the samsung yet, nice find!

At first i thought it was gonna be a 20GB PS3 when i saw the thread title, maybe you should edit it to say stand alone blu-ray player.

No Top Gear isn't on Blu-Ray just DVD. But I can't find anyone that sells this in the US and I love this series.

This is the model I usually see on the show room floor at j&r and bestbuy. It always looks great and I'm a big fan of samsung. If I was a little bit richer I'd love to have a stand alone for my bedroom. I mean, I guess you could just get a PS3 but something about having the stand alone is cool. Of course I mean in addition to the PS3 I'd have in the living room

Is ps3 region free for DVD ?
PS3 is only region free for gaming
if you want to watch all dvd's on it you need to get a DVD regionX
if you can get them for PS3
i have one for PS2 but it wont work for Blu ray

this is great news for blu ray supporters. with the cheap(er) price of blu ray players, it should end the war even sooner.

The only problem is that the reports I have read say that, the blu ray payer youare posting is not all that good and the PS3 is MUCH better as far as a quality player then the samsung player. And thats not mentioning any facters about price.

For the Samsung player

For the PS3 (long review but review the movie watching review)

the samsung player was the first br player out. i know even a few big retailers like bb have had sales for a small while at a price around $599 or maybe even $499 once, but idk if id want it since its the first gen.

id prolly rather go with a ps3 for - the best bang for the buck - factor at this point but thats just me.

do you have a dvd burner? buy the DVD's then use something like DVD Shrink to remove the region coding on it

Until the price for a stand alone Blu-Ray player dips ~$100 below the 20GB PS3 I see no need to report this.

BTW: great advice gcubed!! You should post a stand alone thread re: removing regional coding so more people are aware of being able to do this (to lessen the fear of ordering imported DVDs)

You can do that, but realize that you will also need to convert the DVD from PAL to NTSC (unlike Japanese DVDs which are already NTSC). This is possible, but not nearly as easy as just removing the region-coding.

Very true. With updates coming to the PS3 to allow DTS HD Master Audio decoding, and probably BD-Java 1.1, and possibly BD-Java Live 2.0, the PS3 will long outlast the Samsung as a functional Blu-ray player.
