Hi guys

Finally im able to post a new thread ;)

Can anyone please tell me what is needed to get my PS3 on the net and browse through the likes of the PSN service and others.

Obviously it will need some sort of router id imagine but can anyone give me any advice on which one to get & im also on Telewest Broadband already if that helps?

Cheers in advance:)

First off do you have the 60 or 20GB version of the PS3.. If it's the 60 all you need is a wireless router and follow the instructions in the network settings of the XMB.

I use a Belkin Wireless N router and it seems to get me by, i'm always at 100% signal capacity.

This probably should have been asked in the netowrk forum, but meh...

Just get the Netgear DG834G v3. It's a really nice, reliable ADSL modem router, with built in WiFi, firewall, 4 port hub etc. I'd also seriously consider wiring the PS3 to the router via ethernet cable, because 802.11g is not exactly the best for on-line gaming if you ever want to do that.

I heard N was the best to get for gaming but I also heard that it's not as widely supported just yet. I have yet to receive any problems out of mine though.

wow thanks guys for the info, i aint got the ps3 yet but it will be the 60gb version, yes youve guessed im waiting as a uk user to get this (and im getting it on launch day)

im still debating then in which case whether to use a wireless router as described earlier or whether to wire this thru the ps3, if any1 has had experiences please let me know.

thanks in advance guys:p

you really dont NEED anything besides a broadband connection. you could technically just plug the ethernet cable from your DSL/CABLE modem to the PS3 ethernet port on the back. But to share that connection you will need a router+switch. Linksys and Netgear seem to be the big names for home setups these days, i would go with whatever has been listed so far. There should be little to no setup required either, they seem to be pretty much just plug and play. If you have any issues after the physical setup, check the network forums for help.

N is a faster standard (much faster) but the PS3 doesn't even support N so kind of a waste of money. By the way I think G is 54mbps and N is around 108mbps (so twice as fast, but only if the device supports N).
