I think if you like a certain company for the right reasons it is fine. But if you go so far as to smearing your compettition, spreading rumors, or trying desperately to influence others' decisions then it isn't fine.

Exactly what Galaxyman said, except don't forget to add in that they shouldn't be lying to cover up their beloved console as many around here do

i hate fanboyism. last year ok ps2 had everything. this gen its different. xbox360 has good games. i hated the xbox. but i picked up xbox360 to see what it has and i love it. i will be getting ps3 later when ffxiii comes out.

i just hate it when fanboys from both sides hate to admit that there good games on both systems.

However, I also object to the term "fanboy" being thrown around too much.

It should be used strictly when someone demonstrates the qualities of a fanboy, not when you disagree with them.

fanboys who are people that cannot embrace gaming properly. they feel the need to stick to one console and entirely rely on that console to suit their needs, when infact they should be embracing other consoles/companies.

fanboys are not proper gamers. and by that i mean they are not willingly able to WANT to try anything else except thier precious console or company.

I think people just kind of turn into raving fanboys without even noticing it. For instance, I would call my brother a Playstation fanboy. He loves Playstation, but really I think it's only because he grew up mainly playing PS1 and then PS2 and probably has the best gaming memories attached to those systems. Can you blame him?

Me, I used to hardly even play consoles until I bought an Xbox 360. Now I would say that I've got a little bit of fanboy in me, just because I bought the system first and I want to make a worthwhile investment in my eyes. I don't want to feel like I'm missing out on something that could be better (e.g. PS3) so naturally I begin to become a little biased in my opinions.

I mean like, once my brother was saying how sh1tty my 360 was and how PS2 was better. Then I had to defend my opinion and say he was wrong, blah blah blah. I think it's just natural to want your toy to be better than someone else's.

Actually I think I'm becoming a Nintendo fanboy. Basically because they rock and are a f*cking awesome company.

I absolutely despise ALL fanboys. I don't give damn if you like Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Sega, Atari, 3DO, Maganvox, Nutting Associates, what-have-you! I don't know what necessarily makes a fanboy, but I can say this:

A fanboy is an individual who has a liking towards console, however, with the absence of any concrete, factual, substantive or emperical evidence or reason for having that bias. A bias is a liking (or disliking something) for no apparent reason or purpose. Its essentially, liking (or disliking) something, simply, just "because".

Their lack of reason, maturity and logic is not only mind-numbing, but also gives the rest of the gaming community a false stigma, of sharing similar or exact attributes as the fanboy. Because of their inability to take part in an intelligent conversation, communication with a fanboy is strongly unrecommended. But if exchange of speech is necessary with one of these absurdly moronic specimens, extreme caution should be administered . In other words, don't try arguing against their inane bull****!

I partially agree with your definition of fanboy, but I think fanboys are a lot harder to find on places like this site, for example. There are some fanboys that are not so easy to point out so as you can clearly say "look, there's a fanboy. Let's avoid him." Some of them hide behind false logic or reasoning that appears to have basis. While others, even some on this site, try to dissuade people from buying the console they dislike by using as many negative quotes or facts as possible and posting them where all the people who bought or plan to buy their console of choice are.
