View Full Version : RFOM military rank updating bug

I've been playing RFOM online for quite a while. I don't usually play for very long, so my rank isn't all that high yet. One thing I have noticed though is that every now and then I get a system message saying that I have been promoted in my military rank to a higher rank, and it shows me the little icon and the name of the rank. Here is an example:
"For your achievements blah blah blah we are awarding you with rank of (symbol) Staff Sargent"
For the last few weeks or so I have received Staff Sargent and Gunnery Sargent OVER AND OVER....BACK AND FORTH. I have been playing A LOT to try and move past these two ranks, but it seems like I am stuck going back and forth between the two.
Can you be demoted for getting killed a lot, or losing a certain number of rounds? I would very much like to actually move up in rank. I have been tracking my stats and they are indeed updating and my kills, scores, wins, etc. have all been updated accordingly, yet I am still not past Staff or Gunnery Sargent, whichever is higher. I have even checked my rank on MyResistance.net and it shows it there too.
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone experiencing this issue?

Yesterday I actually went back down a rank, which I didn't think was possible. It doesn't seem to update very quickly with your new stats or experience, but I haven't had it just stay stagnant on me or cycle me between two rankings. Usually when I log off for a while and come back it'll have it updated for me, but yesterday it actually brought me down a ranking for some reason /shrug.

My rank is pretty jumpy as well. Except, I have yet to go down rank. I didn't even know that you could go down in rank. The reason I say this is because I would be playing against some 5-stars, and I would be owning them. I am not even in the officer ranks yet. There has only been a couple of times that I have been impressed by somebody who had a star for a rank, but not often.

It's also worth noting that you will receive "pips"(the little dots next to your rank symbol) every now and then, and it requires 3 or 4 of them to advance you to the next rank(symbol). So you will receive a message saying you have advanced in rank, but your rank is the same. Check the pips next to the rank symbol to see if you just received a pip instead of an actual rank advance.
I have gone back and forth between actual RANKS, so this is not a pip problem. I have also reported this to the official forums technical issues area as well, and it seems that I am not alone.

i know someone that exploits this issue but won't tell me i thnk he configures the options menu a certain way and is able to advance rank faster than me even though he has less kills and lower accuracy

Then please explain to me why I have received Gunnery Sargent and Staff Sargent back and forth over and over again for the last 2.5 weeks.

Insomniac have had problems with stats in the past. Could be yet another problem they are having. I'm sure it will get resolved, but it def sounds like a glitch to me more than anything else...
I've been promoted to major twice, and the ranks before several times each as well. So you're not the only one. I haven't gone back and forth between ranks for a while, not since they fixed the stat reporting issue.

I played some ranked games, for a change, yesterday and noticed that before I went to bed my military rank was back to gunnery sargent. I have not received a notice in my messages saying anything about being promoted/demoted to gunnery from staff sargent, so maybe it is possible that if I play ranked more often the problem will "fix" itself?

Well, I'm pretty sure that you don't rank up at all playing unranked games. I haven't played an unranked game since I first got the game. Ranked is where it's at, IMO.

When I was playing RFOM yesterday on single player mode the soldiers kept flying left and right across the screen. I am only noticing these glitches after installing the latest PSN firmware update:-?
