Ok please no flaming.

Personally i have thought of what i think is a pretty cool idea for Xbox Live and the PlayStation network. Ok for games made by EA say where they use their servers as they are multi-platform wouldn't it be nice if you could play cross platform. Like if your on your PS3 you would have the opourtunity to play against somebody on their Xbox 360. So if you were playing Madden or something if you were going to play somebody on their Xbox 360 and you are on your PS3 a small Xbox 360 icon would appear next to their username and if you are on you Xbox 360 and playing somebody on their PS3 a small PS3 icon would be displayed next to their name. Personally i think this would be a cool idea because you could play against friends who are on different consonles.

Well it's just an opinion, please tell me what everyone thinks.

Cheers

It would be nice but it will never happen. It would involve having Sony's network people coordinate with Microsoft's network people and work on integrating their two systems. I'm sure it would involve more than that, but there's just too much red tape to go through, and I just don't think Sony or Microsoft would ever allow it. It won't happen this gen anyway.. would be nice if it would happen. I'd love to play GRAW 2 on my PS3 with my buddy on his Xbox 360. :D

Im pretty sure some ps2 games do that with computer, but you can't do that with xbox live due to the fact that they have to pay money, and when they realize that they can get the same thing on ps3, but for free, they'll all "convert" to Sony.... So M$ would never do that..... :P

Also, Battlefront 2 does this with dedicated computer servers but it does lag quite a bit. Also i think a need for speed game does this, with the ps2, computer connection thing.

there were already talks of this in the past. i forget if it were just between forum members or if there were actually talks between the big guys, but i do remember the same questions being raised. on many of those cross platform games ::cough cough:: EA ::cough cough:: it would definitely be a cool feature to have. it wouldnt matter to me bc im playing someone on xbl, but it just gives you XXXXX more people to game with

It would be cool to play with whoever you want without the limits of what console you have. But I doubt it will ever happen seeing as how each console is set up diffrent concerning online play and the such.

But with a couple PS2 games you can play with PC's, thats how Final Fantasy XI is. And I'm sure the follow-up to XI on PS3 will be the same way, just not cross-console.

The thing I see as the biggest factor in making this not happen is that I don't think either Sony or Micorosoft would want to create something that would benefit their competition, even if it would help them as well.
It's a nice idea, but most likely it won't happen.

Oh, and Fury, some PC hosted servers in battlefront lagged to death because they were people's own PCs with a regular internet connection (for example a 1Mb/512kB Cable), which aren't enough to handle alot of players smoothly. You could actually rent a server from a handful of companies that could offer you a monster machine with a private 100Mb/100Mb connection to host the game on. Those just can not lag, no matter how many people are on them, if they aren't broken, or badly set up...

It is something that sounds good as long as it isn't on crappy servers. It also sounds like something that just isn't going happen. Gamers can dream though.

FFxi had players on PS2 and PC users, but I'm not sure about FFxi on the 360. . .

Yeah FFXI does this... you play with people on ps2, 360, and pc all at the same time.

if live would ever become a free service i don't see why 3rd parties wouldn't be able to do this but live has less of a chance becoming free than ps does in becoming a pay service tho

This is hardly a new idea, and secondly, this idea has been forwarded by EA before. They got the answer no.

All multi-console games should work like that. Even PC games!

But them pc gamers have a advantage in fps games since a mouse is way better than a analogue stick. you have to use the mouse on pc to understand how much better it is.

Isn't Unreal Tournament 3 going to be be like that where everyone can play together? I read that somewhere but I have no clue if it's true....

If X-Box Live was free this could happen, but with the current system. I don't ever seeing this happen.

i can't see microsoft allowing this. it would take away from the value of the 360. a big reason to buy one would be for the huge userbase. if they made their online userbase equal to the ps3's then there is one less reason to buy a 360 and one more reason to buy a ps3.

since alot of ps3 exclusives are going multi it should be in consideration.

Cross platform would be awesome, but it probably won't happen cause the companies really don't like to collaborate. Other than FFXI..

if sony were to buy microsoft, then it wuold be possible, it might not be possible this generation but might be available the next generation

they were rumored to have tried this with need for speed underground. I liked the concept but there are games coming out that are rumored to support this feature like Army of two and I think Battlefield Bad company.
