My first problem is that I forgot what I put for my password and birthdate when I first signed up. I didn't really care what I chose for a password, and I don't give out my birthdate online because it's just a bad practice in general. How the heck do I get my password? My email address is correct, why can't they just email it to me?

Anyways, my second question is on the legality of sharing games by having someone else log into your psn account. Is it perfectly 100% legal? I know that their system allows up to 5 ps3s with your account on it, but I don't know if that's an endorsement for this practice.

If anyone could point me to links about sony's account sharing policy, terms of service, or statements of endorsement for game sharing at all, please do so.

Thank you.

in short, game sharing is allowed per the ToS. HOWEVER, where other threads on this topic run afoul of the law (in my opinion anyway) is when money changes hands as in the case of a group buy-in, which is different than you freely giving the content to a friend. Specifically, section 3 in the ToS talks about that here:

You may not sell, buy, or trade your Online ID or any personal access to PSN through any means or method, including use of web auction sites. and again in section 8:
All use or access to such Property shall be subject to the terms of this Agreement and all applicable copyright and other intellectual property rights laws. You may not sell, transfer, rent, sublicense, modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the Property.

Also, you may only associate your PSN account with a maximum of 6 other PS3 systems, so you can't share a game with 4 friends, and a different game with 4 different friends.

Hopefully this info helps everyone stay legal. ;)

This link makes it very clear that at least Tekken 5 DR is not to be used in that way. I researched it, and the '5 other people' thing only applies when it's in the terms of the downloaded content itself.

Which means people sharing this game are doing it illegally, and these forums need to take action against people organizing or endorsing those practices here, so that other people, like myself, do not get the impression that it's perfectly ok.

Good info. I was pretty much told to shut up and mind my own business in "that other thread", but I'm glad that this information on the legalities of game "sharing" are coming to light, and hope that appropriate action is taken to keep these forums legit, informative, and fun. The waters get especially muddy when moderators are participating in and endorsing the practice.
